storing car for 3 weeks - other things to consider?

I'm traveling for three weeks and will have to leave my car in the garage. I bought the Porsche battery maintainer. Any other issues I should take care of or consider before leaving town?

Re: storing car for 3 weeks - other things to consider?

Hide your keys from your loved ones...

Check tire air pressure (increase slightly?) Three weeks isn't very long, so no gas stabilizer is needed...Might want to top it off, though.

I just came back from a 3 week holiday to the states. When I got home, I climbed in and it started first try Shouldn't be a problem.

I did the same thing. Car started right up after 2.5 weeks of sitting. For as much money as the car cost it better start up!

We get a 5 year warranty but we pay x2 what you pay. Rough car taxes here. 997 S coupe costs 155,000 US Dollars here.

    I agree 100%

Re: storing car for 3 weeks - other things to consider?

Leave the sucker UNLOCKED. (incase it locks itself and battery goes dead).

    Don't leave keys in car.

    have a nice trip

Re: storing car for 3 weeks - other things to consider?

Thanks much...I'm already looking forward to driving it upon my return.

consder yourselves lucky... where i am, we only get 2yrs warranty; an average optioned 997C2 goes for > US$270k, while 9an average optioned 97C2S goes for > US$300k!!

Re: storing car for 3 weeks - other things to consider?

Been reading this post with interest since I have just got back from a 25 day vacation - of course the first thing I did after a shower was jump in to my 997! Guess what - it started IMMEDIATELY! No problems whatsoever!

Re: storing car for 3 weeks - other things to consider?

    Honestly, people!

Do you really think that any modern car - from a Hyundai to a Porsche - would have any trouble at all with starting after three weeks?

    Please.

Just park the car, lock the doors and enjoy your holiday.

Exactly, 3 weeks is simply NOTHING. You don't even need to bother hooking up the battery maintainer. I've left my 997S for over a month, started like it was just left overnight.

I've got over 150 cars that sit for years at a time (now THAT involves some steps to be taken), so this worrying about 3 weeks and hooking up trickle chargers makes me chuckle a bit. Same with the tires. They'll be a bit choppy for the first 5 miles, then they'll warm up, and that's it... Don't worry about the fuel. The gas coming out of the pumps at the station has already been sitting around for months. Gas only starts to become a real issue in damp storage as you close in on a year. Never use "Sta-Bil" in your Porsche, trust me on that. I've replaced enough fuel systems from the tank to the carb on cars that used Sta Bil, that I know...

A Maserati won't start after being left untouched for three weeks. I know that for a fact.
I'm gonna check but I doubt a Ferrari's battery will last much longer either.
Ferrari's have a battery cut out switch in the boot though, very useful.
Maserati recommends not letting the car untouched for more than two weeks.
A Porsche will last longer but if you and a friend can take it for a spin every two weeks then your battery will last its expected life.
It'll start every six weeks without problems but after a while, it won't (say two years). After a certain level, the alternator won't recharge the battery to its initial level.
Again I know that for a fact, 996 was in France, I work in UK.
My recommendations is that if you're away for over a month and really can't have anyone drive it for you, just unplug the battery.

Was forced to leave my 997 untouched for six weeks last summer. Started first time when I got back in. Alarm was on (although could have been in powersave mode).
