    Re: 997S vs 997TT

    Hey, while we're at it, let's discuss how many lateral G's a 997S can pull, vs. a 997TT, in a McDonald's drive-thru!!!

But seriously folks, if you're neighbor is so goofy that he's quoting you 0-60 times from his copy of R&T, and using that as a basis to question your justification for the purchase of a 997TT, buckle him into the passenger seat, take him for a ride, and then when you get back to the driveway, while he's still paralyzed with fear, and stammering, with a stream of drool flowing from a corner of his mouth, cram the magazine up his posterior and light it on fire, take a picture, and send it to Car & Driver for their next "10 best" issue.

Having grown up 15 minutes away from an NHRA dragstrip, can you tell that I have no patience for magazine racing, let alone zero to barely moving acceleration times??

I love the way you handle burning magazines

    Re: 997S vs 997TT

If 0-60 is so important, why did the original poster get a cab? That infamous 3.9s 0-60 occurred in a coupe, not the heavier cab.

The only explanation is that there are many reasons to buy a car. For example, some prefer the open air feel of a cab, while others prefer the unending power of a TT (and some prefer both). The buyer gets to decide (or justify) how to spend his money - isn't that great?!

    Re: 997S vs 997TT

The spec for 997TT comes out next month and it calls out 0 to 60mph is 6 sec, you would have no problem paying $50K more than your 997S and buying this car, right? Hey you can catch up with the 997S with your turbo after 60mph. Give me abreak man. You dont really beleive this, right.

There was a huge difference between the 996 and 996TT. I have had both and in all honesty the 996 was a bit too slow for me so I could justify buying the 996TT. Now the 997S is a different story and has plenty to offer satisfy my needs at this time until I drive th 997TT.

Thanks, glad you get my point. I dont agree with Wow, you cant beleive what happens betwen 60 to 120mph. How many times have we ever driven that fast. If I go 15mph over the speed limit a juicy ticket is waiting, how the hell you gonna test this car at 120mph on daily basis. Kids stuff, cant beleive they beleive this kind of crap.

I drive at over 150 on a daily basis. Tell me, why did you buy a 997S if you only drive up to 60? Why not the standard Carrera? You'd save a lot of money. Same with the Turbo vs. a 997S. In your case, you certainly shouldn't buy a Turbo, as it truly shines over 60 mph. As does just about EVERY OTHER supercar. Regarding the 6-second analogy, that was just plain stupid.

You don't get it. I wouldn't CARE what the 0-60 mph time was, and common sense dictates that it wouldn't be 6 friggin seconds.

I'm giving up on this. I feel like a car guy reasoning with a non-car guy who happens to own a car-guy car.

You don't feel power by reading a magazine, you feel it the moment you dip into the throttle, at any speed. The Twin Turbo is worth it for that alone, regardless of whether some numbnutz starts quoting magazine times for 0-60, a measurement that tells only 10% of the story in high-powered cars.

And I'm sorry that the driving environment in your area is so awful. Where I'm at, you get off into the country, and you pick your moments of bliss to stretch her out a bit. They don't come every day, but I didn't buy a Porsche for how quick it is in the first two lousy gears, and figure the rest of the 6 gears are for gas mileage. Amazing...

    Re: 997S vs 997TT

Buying a 997S, and then saying that all that is really relevant is what it does 0-60, is like buying a Hummer H1, because it can cross speed-bumps real well.

I love it. To lighten the conversation a bit , remember William "the Refrigerator" Perry of the '86 Super Bowl Chicago Bears? supposedly the Fridge could run the 0 to 5-yard dash as fast as Herschel, Marcus, Tim Brown or Bo Jackson in his day. Talk about one-dimensional ability...

That's right. Ultimately, the consumer determines the price.

I don't think you have the right to insult Mr. 68bossnine like that. He is a true car enthusiast with literally FOUR DECADES of experience and I don't think you've earned the right to mock him like that, especially with your previous comments. Statements such as "it only does 3.7 instead of 3.9 to 60" belong on Supercars.net, not on Rennteam.com. Now, you may have bought your Porsche for show (which driving below 60 certainly is), but many people buy Porsches for their actual performance and it is downright insulting when somebody spews out comments such as yours.
