    996 Turbo

    Hello guys

I'm thinking on buying a 996 Turbo from 2002 with 135.000Km in very good shape.

Does anyone experience have one of this ?

    Any sugestions

    Thanks a lot Smiley

    Re: 996 Turbo

Had couple of friends who had this car few years ago and they didn´t had any problems with it, very reliable and not to expensive to mantain.

Same here, they are regarded as pretty much bullet proof compared to the 996 carreras.

Can't go wrong with a mezger Turbo value wise. The cooling system is the weakness but it can be corrected.  I don't know the price but it can be a lot of fun and value for far less than a new one.  More of a fun challenge to drive as well.

    Re: 996 Turbo

I had two of them, one coupe and one cabriolet and both were very good, any problem.

    Re: 996 Turbo

you should be sure about your seating position ... the 986 /996 range had these, in comparison to the later 987 / 997 seats, "lower" backrests / head support seats ... back then, I swapped my driver seat (986 S) with a bucket seat available at that time for these cars and regarded this to be more "comfortable" for me than the ordinary sport seats ...

A 135k km 996 Turbo in very good shape is very unlikely but if the car has no tuning history (even if the engine is bulletproof, the drivetrain isn't) it is OK but only with a fully documented maintenance history.

To be honest, I would never buy such a car without a Porsche dealer warranty (Approved) because the Mezger engines aren't cheap or cheap to repair, same goes to gearbox, clutch, etc. but if the car is in pristine condition with full documentation and at an interesting price, why not?!

If the car has been modded in any way, walk away!

    Re: 996 Turbo

Exactly, I would only consider if it is 100% OEM and has a solid history. 135k kms could be really good, or really bad depending on the history. Warranty on 12 year old car is probably out of the question, but I am not sure about these offerings from Porsche.

    Hello guys

Thanks a lot for your comments.

The car have 1 year warranty and with all service books updated  ...I went to the dealer to see a 2008 997 C4S but then I saw the 996 for almost the same money...what a good looking car is the 996.
I know I'm comparing two different personalitys but for a weekend toy the 996 should be the choice.

    cheers

    Re: 996 Turbo

comparing a 996TT to 997 C4S for a weekend toy, definitely go for the 996TT!

    Re: 996 Turbo

Can you find a 997 Turbo? I thought 997 Turbos were super cheap nowadays.

    Re: 996 Turbo

If you have "saved-up" for this car to buy it - but hope for "no more costs" for the next years I would take my Hands-off such cars despite that the TT is addictive to drive and lots of fun - broken parts will cost you big Money.....just think of this before you buy ! Engine and drivetrain are very good but as RC stated you can destroy everything if not used properly - specially warming it up not properly. Still astonished how many People gun a car driving it out of the Garage....- my friend owns a TT x51 and has no issues with it but get a 111 Point check of a official dealer - a must !
