    2006 RS6 in the states

I saw a new body Audi A6 (05-06) with RS6 tags and 4 tailpipes, on 101 south this afternoon in Northern California. Can't find any specs on the Audi USA site, and i did not expect the RS version for the 6 series for at least a year or two here in the USA.

Can someone give me, HP? engine (V10?) 0-62? top speed, etc, i wonder how my 997S is stacked up.

Does not OFFICIALLY exist. Next time, use a camera, even if you have to cut off some little old granny.

Don't worry regarding the relative performance of your 997s.

The old RS6plus (with 480hp) was rather a slow car. The 0-200kph time was around 17-18 seconds or so and the car also felt quite slow in particular above 150kph.

The new RS6 is rumoured to get 500-550hp. My guess would be that straight line acceleration should be very close to a 997s, with advantages for the 997s at higher speeds

The new RS6 has its sights set on the M5, not to mention the x55 AMGs, so I really doubt that it will be slower than a 997s. I predict a 13-second 0-200 kph time. Think about it - M5s are putting out 530-540 HP stock. In order for Audi to match its performance with AWD and slightly bigger weight, it will need over 550 HP - that could turn out to be the ultimate sedan. Plenty fast with gobs of torque (TT V10) and superior traction.

With over 500hp, the Audi is the one with the theorhetical advantage at high speed (until the speed limiter cuts in)...

Re: 2006 RS6 in the states

thanks, sounds like the new platform RS6 does not exsist yet so I think the car was posing and just badged RS, it was not a factory car out for tests, this was an owners car.

Re: 2006 RS6 in the states

Wel, ya never know, maybe you saw the new RS6. How'd it look? Were there fender flares, and if there was, were they nice lookin? I'm pretty curious, because I was a pretty big fan of the RS6.

Re: 2006 RS6 in the states

i agree with crash, i'll swerve to get pics next time, car did not have any flares and rubber looked too narrow so the more i think about it it was posing

Re: 2006 RS6 in the states

    Aw. that's too bad.

Re: 2006 RS6 in the states

Could have easily been a 4.2 which has the wider body, debaged and a quad exhaust. It's relatively difficult to tell the difference between an RS6 and the A6...

Although I would like a 0-200 time of 13 seconds this will not happen. Audi, unfortunately, is not known for efficiency when it comes to translating power into performance. Just look at the new RS4. Rather slow for 420hp. Unfortunate but true.

Forget it. I once tested the RS6plus. The RS6plus (480hp) is really slow above 200kph. And still it consumes 20 l/100km.

After the test drive I decided to buy an Audi A8 Diesel instead (I was looking for a comfortable, spacious, and powerful car).

Yes, that's very unfortunate. The Quattro system might be the culprit here. However, that is exactly my point. It will probably get close to 600 HP in order to be competitive with a 540 HP M5. The old RS6 was a bit quicker than the E39 M5, with about 50 HP more, more weight and AWD. Makes sense actually.

Re: 2006 RS6 in the states

If its not a real car but a mule, i doubt it would have badges on it;) probably just some poser. Furthermore, someone said a V10 turbo, and this is not the case, just a NA V10.

I doubt it. I seriously think Audi is going to use a TT V10 from the A8. The 4.2 V8s from RS4s are showing failures and Audi needs a reliable, powerful and torquey engine, not a technological marvel that breaks down every 5000 niles...

Re: 2006 RS6 in the states

they have the V10 from the gallardo to play with....NA engines seem to be their new thing no?

Re: 2006 RS6 in the states

The " regular " 2007 S6 was officially announced weeks ago , with something like a 420 HP V10, detuned from the 450 HP V10 for the same motor in the S8. So I would venture 500-600 hp from a twin turbo V10 for an RS6 , since that's what it's two main comps, the M5 and the coming E63 will have , power wise, and the Audi has to make enough to compensate for the weight of quattro drive system.

    Exactly.

    What's the story?

The old RS6s were only faster to 60 due to better traction and automatic gearbox. Audi usually uses very long gearing in the higher gears, add the fact that both transmission and AWD sap power and worse aerodynamics (let alone the engine cooling) make it not much faster than the M5.

The new BMW has a 7-speed SMG transmission...

From what I understand some engines are suffering from stress failures. I really have no idea what Audi were thinking with the RS6... Hopefully the new one is improved enough to beat the competition.
