I don't know what it is with this styling trend but I don't like it. 
The RX8 was the first, no wait ... I think it was the Mitsubishi Montero, with the big eyebrow front wheelwell that starts near the grill and flares out to terminate somewhere on the side behind the wheel. It just looks awkward and unbalanced to me. I now see it, or at least a hint of it, on all new Mazda designs. And, I even see some of it on the new Mercedes S series, plus a few others. Who is it that thinks this looks good? 
If they could take that line from the grill and integrate it into the fender, say like the Dodge Ram does, or at least extend the line rearward a little further, like 1940's vintage automobiles did, it would look so much better.

Last year some journalists asked Audis chief of design about the new Big Mouth Billy Bass Audi grilles.
He answered that it was part of a automotive industry trend
to exaggerate body lines to attract buyers in the worlds largest fastest growing car market - China.
Maybe someone can Photoshop a new Benz 500 with a Audi grille and a Bangle rear end as a tribute to German sedan design.

Germany could export more cars if they werent sabotaging
themselves with such bulbous ugly looks, iffy software
and 50's column shifters.
Thankfully Porsche mostly knows and does better.
