    Nice top and color combo on this cab !



    Nice top and color combo on this cab ! ... what is is ... is it paint to match I can not find the paint color or top cover in the book ? I think that is why a black cab looks so good the top matches the car so when the roof is up the line of the car is not so broken up .

    Nice.. And with a Sand Interior?? Or maybe Terracota?? Better

    wish I had the guts to do this exact same thing he did here except with this grey color .... full TechArt aero and wheels seat-backs .. top and all in that grey .....

    I'm really really sorry, but since this topic came up (grey or colored vs. black tops) I've been "obsessed" checking out every convertible car I see on the road. Sadly, the non-black look shabby more often than not. Good luck with your choice.

    Maybe it's a given to say non-black is going to take a bigger maintenance (and earlier replacement) committment from it's owner.

    Lo siento mucho, MMD....I like it. The convertible tops on high-end cars these days are chemically treated to survive everything from baking sun to a swarm of locusts.

    Saw a Vette with a tan top the other day and man did it look like crap. The rest of the car was in decent shape but the top was awful.

    Saw that 997S demo cab at the Porsche Center in Zuffenhausen a few weeks ago. The window sticker claims that it is a seal grey with black top and black interior, but I rather think they made a mistake and it is the stone grey top. IMO, the grey top fits that car much better than a black top. Unfortunately, the top already shows black marks.

    Hard to believe a brand new car would already have black marks on the top . Thought is would be nice to have the top match the car , always took it for granted since I always ordered triple black cabs . The last cab I got was silver ( so much easier to keep clean it as it did not show the dirt ) and it never looked as good with the top up becuase the top being black was a different color than the car . I think a black cab looks the best when the top is up becuase the car is not a different color than the roof . Then there is that full time job of trying to keep the car clean which can really get old after awhile . Thanks for the pictures.

    at first I also thought that it is a brand new car. But I could identify the small blue stickers on the plates on my original bigger size pictures. They indicate a march built car. So, being a demo car it probably has several thousand miles on it. Furthermore, the car wasn't parked in a garage. Pretty bad for a cab and rainy German weather. And finally, it was driven in the rain, because there were rain spots all over the fenders. Since I know that I would keep the top clean, I still would buy a top matching the cars color.

    What causes the black marks? Neglect/ elements, a design flaw?

    I've seen so many light colored Cabs over the years with no marks. Is this a problem pretty much exclusive to Porsche and/ or other late model cars?

    I think the Grey top looks great and that's what I want to order, but only if it's not going to look lousy after a while!

    EWI!!! Where were you a few weeks ago . We had a huge a Rennteam-wide search / debate about Grey vs Black Tops!! I had the horrifying dilema of deciding between the 2 colours on my GT Silver c4s. In the end, I went with the black top - as it was just more practical and easier to maintain.

    Now having seen these pics, I still love that grey top - but the concerns I had with 'dirt' and 'unexpected marks' have once again surfaced.

    I also, like MMD, have been scrutinizing all convertibles that I see - and I have to admit, some of those lighter tops can look awful...

    Would love to see what the car would look like if Porsche did a perfect paint color match with the grey top that was not metallic .

    the pictures were taken the weekend after you have posted your final order decision. That 'final' and the subject of your thread ("You guys scared me - so I changed my order again!!") made me think I better not post them right away to save you from further confusion
    Furthermore, it wasn't the exact color combination you were looking for anyway.

    Here's another way to think about it. When you first get your car you can't get enough of playing with it, cleaning it, waxing it, washing it pampering it. Enthusiasm like that is exactly what a grey top loves.

    I bet most of us lose our extreme enthusiasm after a season or two and just do the minimum amount of work to keep the car looking good.

    At that time, the grey top will start to look crummy because it will look dirty and owners will not have the high level of enthusiasm for maintaining the car they had when they first got it. The black top will hold it's own (I.e. will look pretty good longer).

    It's just Human Nature... .
