    Engine Differences. 993vs993TTvs1999GT3vs996TTvs2004GT3.

    The 993 motor was air cooled.
    Was the 993 Turbo motor also air cooled?

    What about the 1999 GT3? Was it air cooled or water cooled, and is it the same block as the 993?

    Is the 996 Turbo the same motor as the 993 Turbo?
    And is the 2004 GT3 the 996 Turbo motor WITHOUT the Turbo?

    Just curious on how different or similar these motors are.

    I also know that the 993RS was a 3.8litre motor. Curious as to why Porsche did not develop or use this configuration again.

    Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

    993 - All motors were air/oil cooled

    996/986 - Water cooled
    996 GT3/996 Turbo/996 GT2 - air/oil cooled crankcase and water cooled heads.

    I believe all the turbo motors + the GT3 were based on the 964 block actually.

    Crankcase, not block. A block includes cylinders. In this case, the 996 Turbo, GT2 and GT3 share a 964 part number crankcase but nothing else.

    Although the GT3/GT2/TT crankcase is a 964 part number, I believe it was actually developed for the GT1.

    Right. But the crankcase already changed during 996 TT production, there are already different part numbers...
