    Never used?

This talk of cruise control got me thinking. I don't have the Porsche yet but after almost 2 years of M3 ownership ther are several things I've never used. I've never used Cruise Control, not even pressed the button. Never used the air cleaner system on the climate control. Never watched the Telly. I've only sat in the back once! Sun roof's been open only once. I've done 15,000 miles, I do use the car. Anybody else got stuff they never use?

    Re: Never used?

Good one sdy! Actually, I had an M3 prior to the 911S. Never used cruise or air filter either. Have 5k miles on the Porsche. Roof has been opened once, cruise never used.Mostly use gas pedal, shifter & stereo.

    Re: Never used?

I have a 530d and the 911S, never used cruise either, but use the auto air filter on the 530 all the time.. wish the 911 had it - probably to do with our less stringent air pollution laws. Use the gas pedal, shifter (more than is necessary), sport chrono button, windows and sunroof whenever I can. Never used that stopwatch and still prefer not to use the Bose. And I've never used the button that raises the rear spoiler....

    Re: Never used?

Never use stopwatch, never use PSM button.

Call me immature, but I've used the rear spoiler button once - I was passing a real hottie in a convertible - and wanted to show her how much she "raised" my spirits....

    Re: Never used?

I recocgnized that I never or at least very rarely use:
    - cruise control
    - sunroof
    - electric seat adjustment

So I didn't get that in my 997S. Didn't regret that decision.

I also didn't get the rear wiper, as I don't need it.

EDIT: And I don't need that stop watch, but since I wanted the Sport Chrono thing I have to live with it.

    Re: Never used?

It's easier to list the things that I don't use. I've had little use for the stopwatch, ummmm...and....... that's about it. When I've got useful luxuries, you bet your asterics I use them!!! I use my nifty fold-out cup holder to hold my drip-proof coffee mug in the morning, I use my heated seats to relax in the evening, I ABUSE my Bose stereo with all my classic acid rock and contemporary Seattle-grunge-derivative rock (people who don't listen to music in the car, think too much. My dad doesn't listen to music. Every time he drives cross-country from Colorado back to Florida he practically gives himself aneurysm stressing and obsessing over business matters, and developing conspiracy theories). The sunroof hasn't been back much, but it's the blistering-hot summer that's to blame. I'm sure I'll be enjoying that more as fall approaches. I use my cruise all the time on the highway, so I'm not irritating others on the highway with chronic speed-indecisiveness. I honestly and respectfully don't understand why you wouldn't use cruise control, when it's there on the car, unless you live within a congested metropolitan area that you rarely wander out of. When you're on a long trip involving highway miles, I can't think of an argument in favor of sitting with your heel planted in one solitary spot, for hours on end, and calling that preferable. But everbody's got their things that irritate them. My wife doesn't use cruise control, and she admits that it's because she's a control-freak. She NEEDS to use it, because she speeds without knowing it, and she's the poster child for being a "blocker" going faster, then slower, then faster, then slower, on the road.

    Re: Never used?

Oh yeah, I forgot a few.... I habitually run sport on, pasm normal. I got the power seats with memory, because I'm a NUT about getting my seating adjustments PERFECT, and if anybody moves the seat in the slightest way, I go crazy if I don't have the memory to put things back to my settings. It takes me weeks to get comfortable again.

Rear wiper??? What's behind me..... does not matter.... (paraphrased from the movie "Gumball Rally")

    No rear wiper.

    Re: Never used?

    Good one

I never did use the Cruise Control

The Seat adjustments - I'm the only person behind the ALL the time..

    Re: Never used?

Cruise control in LA freeways? Ha! Also, I've yet to use my 6-cd changer. Also, haven't used the sport chrono stopwatch.

    Re: Never used?

That's why I didn't order the CD changer. It's too easy and more practical to just pop 'em in the dash one at a time. I wish they had an in-dash multi-CD player like Ford does, which is truly the slickest way to go for a multi-disc setup.

Yeah, out in LA LA Land, you've got little use for the cruise. You guys out there are gluttons for commuting punishment.

    Re: Never used?

Won't use PASM button after two or three tries.
Won't use 70 of the 355 hp after a few trials.
Won't use 40% of the tire's' foot print.
won't back seats, back seat seatbelts, nav system, drink holders, trip computer, headlight washers, ... .
The car will probably go to the next owner with 80% of original (German?) windshield washer fluid.

Passenger door will be used 1 time for every 50 uses of driver's side door.

    Re: Never used?

Good lord, MMD, is your right foot broke??

My view is that you USE ALL of your horsepower, every time you drive the car, no matter how you drive it. The reason the car is so spirited and fun at 1/2 throttle, is due to the fact that you've got the full 355 h.p. on tap. Half throttle would feel more anemic if you didn't have all of the ultimately available ponies there. To say that you don't "use" the 355 h.p. is nonsense, because how spirited the car runs under partial throttle is directly derivative of it's total performance envelope. If you had 20% less total power, you would have to nudge the gas pedal 20% more to get the same sense of effortless motivation just poking around town. You don't need to have your foot on the floor to enjoy a high-powered car. It's the fact that it pulls strong, with hardly any effort or throttle, that makes the high-horsepower mill so necessary and desirable. That's why I roll my eyes a bit at the argument for the standard car where they say "I wouldn't use that extra 35 h.p. anyhow"..... It's not about how much time you spend with your foot to the wood. It's about how strong and aggressively and effortlessly and "fun" the car pulls with the slightest of throttle. The extra torque of the 3.8 offers more grins, and more satisfaction, under ALL driving conditions. What makes driving a 500+ h.p. car such a hoot is not necessarily how fast it can ultimately accelerate, but, how herculean it is with what you would normally consider to be conservative inputs. I'm not trying to start another S/non-S war here, both cars are great for the dough. I'm just saying that extra horsepower almost always enhances your normal and everyday driving pleasure.
