    Porsche factory tour

Hi, sorry if I'm posting this to the wrong board. I'm interested in visiting the Porsche factory at the end of September. I understand I need to make reservations. I have some questions...

    1) how far is the factory from the Stuttgart airport?
    2) how do I make reservations? Is it possible to use a travel agency or some third party in the U.S.?
    3) how far in advance are making reservations recommended?
    4) can anyone recommend any other worthy sights in Stuttgart? Black Forest? We will have two days there.
    5) can anyone recommend any nice mid-level places to stay in Stuttgart (preferably near the factory)?

    thanks
    David

    1. around 20-25 km if I'm not mistaken.
    2. through PCNA I guess but I'm sure our Users from the US can help you more with this one
    3. as far in advance as possible because they have only limited English speaking capacities, also don't forget about the factory summer holiday. Even now it could be too late for a Sept. reservation.
    4. Black Forest? Why not Mercedes Benz? You could also try to book a Weissach Tour through Porsche Travel Club )or whatever in the US).
    5. Porsche Owners who pick up their cars or who visit the factory usually stay at the Steigenberger Graf Zeppelin Hotel in Stuttgart which is a 5-Star Hotel.
I think one room for one night is around 165 EUR (184 USD at the current exchange rate).
If you need something cheaper, you might want to check out this site (it is in German but you can see the names of the hotels and the prices): Hotels in Stuttgart and surroundings

I also recommend checking out this link:

    Re: Porsche factory tour

can someone pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease take a picture at the factory of the new "Atlas Grey" and even better next to "Seal Grey"? pretty please???? tia

    Re: Porsche factory tour

Hi David, I've visited the factory in 2002 but it was planned about 1 year in advance, the best organised trips are usually carried out by national Porsche Clubs, worth joining/contacting them, especially if you want the inside track on a ride at the test facility.
Anyway, assuming you are going to get yourself to Stuttgart and hire a car from the airport, can recommend the Hotel Adler in Asperg. This is between the factory at Zuffenhausen and the test track at Weissach, and very close to the Porsche 'shop' .

    Re: Porsche factory tour

If you go to AUDI dealership they have the same identical color. If they don't have it on a car in the lot they have big metal pallets that you can see and compare.

In fact I was at the Porsche dealer this past Saturday with my friend. They called him to go there so he could spec out his Turbo Cab and he decided to go with Atlas Gray after we saw the sample.

I initially thought it was something between Seal and Slate Gray but indeed it is between Arctic and Seal grey very nice color. I can promise you we'll see alot of Atlas Gray on upcomig Porsche as we do Seal Gray now.

    Re: Porsche factory tour

David, If you will tell me the exact date, how many people, and their names; I will put in an official request for you. You may want to choose 3 possible days for the Tour, since they
may be booked that day. Also, remember the Tour starts promptly at 9:50 AM. If you're late; you don't get in. The
Germans pride themselves on punctuality, unlike most Americans. It is definitely worth while; and if you see it in person; you'll never buy any thing else; if you can afford to.
Please, let me know how I can help. Revvv

    Re: Porsche factory tour

Ron, are you sure about the Atlasgrey info? I know there is an Audi Atlasgrey, but just have a look at the color sample in the GT3 booklet, it's almost as dark as black! I know these samples don't stand for much, but they should at least give a minimal indication of the real color. Besides, there is also a Mercedes Atlasgrey, which is a totally different color, much darker. It is actually the color in which the front grille of the E-Class "Elegance" is painted...

Well, so much for this, I will probably stay "black, jet black" for my gt3, no experiments...

    greets taz

    Re: Porsche factory tour

You are right according to the sample that I saw I thought it would be between black and slate gray. However the sales guy said AUDI Atlas Gray and Porsche's are identical from the same manufacturer too but again you can't trust them can you

I guess the best bet would be waiting and seein it in person.

    Re: Porsche factory tour

Thanks Ron. I did just that yesterday, porsche seal grey vs. audi atlas:

    http://www.986host.com/gallery/benkea?&page=2

are you "sure" the audi atlas is the same?

ps. the color chips in porsche brochures suck as bad as the colors on their web site. ALL the colors except maybe black are way off in both the brochures and web-site.

    Re: Porsche factory tour

    Hi,
I just sent you an email using your address from your profile. Please let me know ASAP if you can confirm the reservations so I can buy airplane tickets.

    thanks!
    David
