I doubt the TT will be able to do 7.40, to heavy. so for $70000 the z06 is fantastic value and a serious alternative to at leat a Cayman RS if not to the new GT3.

Is it true that the C6Z has just 500hp?

If so, I highly doubt that 7:40 rumour. For example a 480hp GT2 Mk2 does the NS in 7:46. Are there any reasons (tires etc.) that would explain why the Corvette should be in the 7:4xx range? The standard version of the corvette (400hp) has even been slower than a standard Carrera S in various recent car mag tests (in straight line and on the track).

Personally, I think that all this might me part of GMs marketing strategy. And apparently some potential buyers are prone to believing those rumours

    Re: Very Clear!

If memory serves me, 7:46 is for the lower hp first 996 gt2. The 480 hp one should be faster (I could be mistaken). The Z06 weighs a bit less than a GT2, has more hp, larger tires, etc. It's a really crazy machine.

    Re: Very Clear!

we'll anyway only believe it when H.v.Saurma will have tested it...

German "Auto-Bild" from today. Corvette Z 06 Nürburgring Time: 7.40 min. The driver was Jan Magnussen. No danger for the CGT's time.

Laptime was really wrong, but the magazine was right.
    Thanks!

You are right. I mixed that up. But still, why should the Corvette be quicker even than the old GT2 (assuming standard street tires)?

Turbo will be as usual, the best package, but now, ask yourself, if you lived in the States,
    A 997 Turbo full of options or a nice Boxster S AND a Z06?
    Humm....

No contest. I'd take the 997 turbo.

Z06 (505hp) is MUCH lighter than GT2 with bigger tires. Weight is around 300 lbs less...

    Re: Very Clear?

A little confused....do we have a a credible lap time for the C6 Z06....Jan Magnussen is not exactly a slouch either.

I'm not certain. Someone translated the lap time from the German Auto-Bild and it said "Just over 7:40". So, I don't know whether to interpret this as a fraction of a second over 7:40 or if it could mean in the 7:40's. I'm still waiting for someone to definitively state the time (and confirm that it doesn't reflect the time for the Supercharged version "Blue Devil" that has also been running the Ring recently). I'll let you know if I learn more.

Actually, both manufacturers claim a curb weight of 3131 lbs. However, the corvette's slightly wider tires (325 v. 315) are much heavier EMTs. Runflats are a handicap, not a benefit on the track.

I agree with your thinking. It's more likely a blue devil with the 7:40 lap time.

    Re: Very Clear?

    ZO6's don't use Runflats...

The Turbo will be much too heavy to compete with the Z06 at the track - it will weigh around 3,700 lbs and AWD is a detriment at the track (unless it's raining).

I heard that the 997 Turbo beats ANY non-modified 996 model with street tires on the track, so maybe you should wait a little bit with your assumption.
