    Does the rear deck spoiler do anything at...

    normal highway speeds?

    Other than tipping the cops off that I have been recently exceeding the speedlimit, does the deployed spoiler have any significant safety or other beneficial effects when running a straight line on a highway at say 75 or 80mph?

    If it doesn't have any appreciable benefit I'm just going to turn it off, I don't like it annoucing to the cops that I haven't been doing 55.

    You think they really put 2 and 2 together? It probably does squat at normal freeway speeds.

    It increases downforce and stability at speed and increses cooling, The cops can't say anything about it being up because it can also be manually raised with a button in the dash console at any speed.

    it doesnt increase downforce, it reduces sum aerodynamic effect, er what was it called, the Vincent effect or smth, its main aim is to reduce LIFT

    yes, technically in this case it reduces lift without going as far as generating a positive downforce (like on the GT2) but its usually undersood better for all if you just speak in terms of downforce, but yes recing lift is more correct.

    Glad the info was useful!

    there was an article in auto car magazine a year or so ago, where they drove a 996 round a circuit with the spoiler up and with the spoiler down. The difference was marginal, more precedented when you are on the edge. They concluded that for safety reasons, it is better to have it functioning normally, since it makes the car more predictable etc..

    i dont notice any difference what so ever, apart from the fact that it looks cool

    Thats interesting Nilesh. Its a small wing placed low and close to the rear's body so it makes sense its only a small help. The GT3 double-deck wing would be another matter I guess, thats why you need a matching GT3 front bumper.

    And depending on temp. it could also be up even at apprx. 30mph. Leaving it alone so that it can do it's job of cooling the engine as designed is the smarter way to go.

    How does it increase cooling? If you look at the underside it has an accordian of plastic that would block air entry as I recall.

    Under 100mph it does rather little, but at high speeds it prevents lift in the rear (no significant downforce - just prevents lift).
