    Sport zorst

Was in the OPC this morning having a few things looked at under warrenty and was quizing the parts guys about the PSE.
They didnt know much I'm afraid only that they reckoned it would cost about Pounds2,000 to retro fit (if possible of course!)....

Jesus! Had hoped it would be about Pounds1000... But Pounds2,000 to replace an exhaust which is only 3 months old.... They said it takes about 8 hours to install!!!!!!! Probably where a goo chunk of that cash is going!

Mmmm not sure if I can stomach that... To keep me happy I bought some colored wheel centres instead! Much more acceptable to my wallet!

Any other sport exhausts any can recomend? Love the sound of the stock car, but after hearing a 997 with the PSE... compared to a standard Ooohhhh......

    Re: Sport zorst

    Rich,
I'd wait for a while and get the 987 sports exhaust from an independant parts company (such as Essential styling or Jasmine Motorsport). You can then get it fitted much cheaper at an independant. If it's like the 986 sports exhaust, then the OPC quote 8 hours as that includes installing an on/off switch in the dash. You can get it fitted in under an hour without this switch (and with the exhaust always on )

    Re: Sport zorst

Retro-fitting seems to cost 2 to 3 times the price of the same item if specced from new. I was quoted GBP 1000 for centre console in aluminium effect from the Tequipment catalogue, only GBP333 to spec with car. Needless to say I will do without it at that money.

    Re: Sport zorst

I finalised my spec this morning for my August production 987. I had felt that the sport exhaust would be a good purchase, but the 986 sports exhaust was pretty crap really. It didn't add much to the 986 appart from a bit of shiny chrome.

I'll wait till I hear one before shelling out a grand for it. Proabably the right thing to do.

    So my final spec

    987 2.7
    Basalt black
    19'' Carerra Classic 5 spokes
    Black leather Sports seats
    Heated seats
    Auto CLimate
    Park assist
    Sports Steering wheel
    Bose with Wind deflector
    Free Coloured centres and Mats

August production (MY06) for late Sept delivery.

    Due to collect Oct 1st

    JZ:

    nice specc.
I would consider dropping the 19" wheels.
    get the 18 + PCM

the "looks" arent that important, and it hurts the ride. and the width of the tyres are the same b/n 18" and 19".

get the PCM, the centre console looks soooo much better.

    Re: Sport zorst

Hadnt thought of getting it from an external company should save lots of cash.

Was the 986 sports exhaust pants then? Had hoped it would have sounded something like the sweet 996/997 version.

    Re: Sport zorst

Nar, wouldnt choose the PCM over the wheels. The 19"s make the car look tons better.

Who cares if you get lost! You sat in a Porsche, more time on the road the better

Thanks, but I disagree totally. The wheels make or break a car, and the 19 Classics are (IMHO) the best wheels available for the car, besides, tyre replacement prices are the same give or take a tenner over the 18's. In my opinion, you wouldn't see a 986 without 18 classics post facelift, I think its the same of the 987, you really need the 19's to look good.

Regarding the PCM, I drove this for a with my 'day with a demo'. While it was nice to look at (but too fiddly), I was cetain it wasn't worth the money for me. I can read a map. Plus, if I was scrapping the 19's to save money, I'd invest in the sports exhaust, as I still think the standard ride is good enough to do without PASM. (tin hat on).

Next time round for all the other goodies in 2008.

    Cheers,

    JZ

    Re: Sport zorst

Speccing your car is such a personal thing it could be debated from now until eternity. Everyone has their own "ideal". Its your car, your money, you can have it built exactly as you want.

    Re: Sport zorst

I agree the 19s look a little better, but Walter Röhrl prefers the ride on 18s, he should know.

    Re: Sport zorst

totally agree its a very personal thing. I have agonised for hours about this spec (this is my first Porsche). I agree W Rohrl prefers the 18's, but then I can't drive like WR

    Re: Sport zorst

Mine is also my first Porsche. The only slight regret that I have is that some of the minor options I wanted weren't available as it was an early production car. I've not regretted my choice once. It is light years ahead of any other car I have had in every way.

    Re: Sport zorst

true, I would keep my mouth shut about the whole 18" vs 19" debate.

maybe its just me... but I always fancy a TV-screen in my car. even tho PCM is not TV- compatible.

    Re: Sport zorst

Keep the 19s -- if you want Navi, put it later with a good installer - Alpine screen and Navi or Pioneer - each of their versions of DVD Navi is 10 times better than the PCM system
