Typical Vegas heavy-handedness with the labor unions, an euphemism for organized crime, showing up at the track. https://www.planetf1.com/news/f1-issues-statement-las-vegas-grand-prix-fans
This little oversight is what led to the delay. https://www.thedrive.com/news/the-las-vegas-f1-race-isnt-off-to-a-great-start
The race organizers spent more time on celebration and celebrates rather than properly preparing the venue. Again, typical Vegas; all glitz and no substance.

Sainz gets hit with a 10 place grid penalty because of Las Vegas’ ineptitude. This is becoming a larger and larger disaster with each moment. https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/vasseur-sainz-f1-grid-penalty-after-vegas-incident-a-huge-hit-for-ferrari-/10547731/ Ferrari’s claim of Force Majeure was unfairly rejected by the FIA. It was the FIA and the Las Vegas promoters responsible for the damaged cars.

I have to agree, Ferrari shouldn't be penalized for this.

Max is one of those entitled person that only want the glory, fame and fortune, but doesn’t want to put in any work or effort to promote the sport. Hamilton on the other hand helped so much to actually grow the sport and help people trying to get in.
Vegas here is so packed with Netflix Red Bull fans, it’s unbelievable. I thought Austin was bad but Vegas is worse, some of those don’t even know Max’s last name. They are like, I am here for that white kid Max, no idea what his number is or his last name but his first name is cool and that’s why we fans.
Mercedes is staying at the Wynn, Alpine is here at Venetian, Alfa is at MGM and Red Bull Alfa Tauri are at Ballagio.
The track itself is a cool track, much better than the boring Miami parking lot, too bad there isn’t support races to rubber in the surface however. They don’t really have time to schedule in those here however.
Also, I have been told Max is being a dick to his fans at Ballagio, he pushed them away himself, and refused selfies and autographs at the lobby, not unlike how Alonso was doing earlier in his career and I have seen first hand not 15 feet away. Alonso is much better and realized what he represent as a WDC. Max needs to learn those are the people that helped pay his salary.

Let us not forget about Lewis Hypocrite as he remains silent about racially-tinged murders in Las Vegas. This same man shed crocodile tears over the overdose death of a woman-beating drug addicted criminal a couple years, forcing the FIA and Formula One to moments of silence as he took a knee in protest. The record is there so there is nary wiggle room to spin his actions any other way. It’s that indefensible and even if Hamilton does not want to pursue a racial element, he can still use his very public personae to condemn teen violence in Vegas; he did not.
Meanwhile, he is turning into the Sergio Perez of Team Mercedes Evidently, partying and being seen on the Strip is his goal instead of keeping his head down and focused on driving

watt:Nick we are well familiar with your prejudices since your repeat them over and over and over; please try to add some value, thank you.
Reporting truth and facts isn’t prejudice. You think it’s prejudice just because I don’t agree with you. That kind of logic just doesn’t fly. Especially when I also do criticize Hamilton too when he is in the wrong, I don’t play favorites here, it’s just that Max does more wrongs hence he get mentioned more often. 🤷🏻♂️
You don’t like the black guy, we get it.
Max has his natural talents, no one is denying that, we still talking about how he saved the completely sideway car at Brazil in the rain a few years ago where every other driver on the grid would have crashed, that was amazing and is still the gold standard of car control. But that doesn’t mean he is god and can do no wrong. His attitude is anti-social, all he cares is Max. He seems to think he is bigger than the sport and he can do whatever he feels like, that’s wrong. He should realize when he is working, he is representing every sponsors that paid him and the team handsomely, which also means when he constantly swear in the car, acting childishly around others, that’s reflexes on his sponsors too. He needs to know since he is the current WDC, every kids look up to him to be a role model and he should act the part.
Hamilton isn’t a saint in this department either, his ‘social justice’ antics aren’t for everyone, F1 tolerated him for a bit but now has since clamped down the practice. To his credit however, he promote the sport immensely, he is always respectful and very presentable, his charity work is well known. That how you carry yourself as a WDC.
Anyways more details emerged about the ‘loose’ manhole cover. It was welded in, but the concrete around it failed. Sainz’s car made so much suction it literally broke the concrete to have that manhole come out.
And even with the midnight start of qualifying, the stands are pretty much packed, the turn out is quite amazing.

Should be a good race. Sparked into town Wednesday- drive on i70 from Denver to Vegas is the most amazing thing
nto watching the race at the McLaren Vista event on top of the Chromwell. Mark Wahlberg hosting.
not going to lie - being booted out at 1:30am Thursday was a bit rough. Oh well. Fun times anyway.
cheers

watt:Perfect example of your prejudices. Lewee I have stated above" is one of the greatest drivers of all time". You really need new subject material.
He is wedded to the past. Once, Lewee was a great driver but that faded as he went Hollywood and stayed too long with Toto Wolfe. Wolfe and his team made too many poor design decisions with limited resources in the new downforce era. Anyone at Mercedes ever hear of risk mitigation? Sad that he is now known for his poor sartorial choices.

Both Miami, from the fake waterfront to a parking, and Las Vegas, gauche and no substance, are terrible venues for the sport. It’s really a disgrace. However, years ago Bernie determined that Indianapolis, one of the great cathedrals of speed, was not suitable. I wonder how he feels about this current chimp show known as Vegas. https://twitter.com/f1guydan/status/1725934547894685990?s=46&t=N-3r5FtTvE07-zuf_6Xu0w

mcdelaug:Is there somewhere you can rewatch old F1? Like from the 80s? I’d much prefer that to today’s crass, extortionate version.
An old friend of mine had a company selling tapes of prewar Grand Prix races. Some amazing racing, and without the current crass venues we are forced to endure.

So Max did a Verstappen at the start, what’s new. It’s not even needed when his car is so much faster than the rest.
this track is already miles bettter than Miami, and better than Zanvork, the 2nd worst track on the calendar. The mile+ long main straight is really something. Judging from attendance, it’s a great success. Off track, it’s beyond imagination, the whole town is buzzing about F1, Netflix Red Bull fans everywhere, they wearing the jackets and shirts everywhere you see. The little incident with the manhole cover/water valve cover is just an hiccup. Now that all the hard work has been done, next year the disruptions to the residents will be minimal. Well done Las Vegas, you really know how to put on a show.
Attendance isn’t up to Austin standard yet, but that’s the nature of how much grandstands the organizers can put up.
crowd is split about 50/50 for Perez and Ferrari. Great cheers when Perez passes Leclerc for the lead, but a slightly bigger cheer when Leclerc put the move on Perez at the end. Boos are loudly heard when Max pulled the Verstappen at the start however. And only a small cheer when Max passed for the lead. No one appreciate the dirty antics from Max tonight.
now time for after party.
Great report Nick!!! Sounds like super positive atmosphere! Party down
Chuck shreds Checo for P2
On the radio, you could hear Max actually team play telling Checo to follow his draft. Checo had a great race but is always ham handed in situations that need brains and finesse.
The two extra seconds on Chuck's bad pitstop -- 2 seconds behind Max at the finish, otherwise a good job by Ferrari -- Vasseur is proving to be the right guy.
