I was at the dealer the other day and I asked the service manager if he knew anything about the front hood latch opening by itself and he said yes he does. The root cause is polishing your front headlight which causes static and short circuit one of the switches (not sure which Switch) which in turns opens the front hood. Porsche will be releasing a new switch that will resolve this issue. For now they advice to wash the headlight but DONT polish it like I did. No biggy. Just ask your service manager next time you are there to get you a new switch. I can ask and get more specific ifno about this switch if anybody is interesterd but not until Monday. Cheers.

Also, Porsche have solved the System Fault/hood latch, although it isn't readily available yet(I've had it installed in my car for about a month....and have polished the living cr@p out of the lights/car...absolutely NO PROBLEMS).
jfraser,
What is the fix?
I had the latches and related components replaced 3 months ago and havent had a SYSTEM FAULT problem since.
Is there another issue that needs to be addressed? Do more components need to be replaced to have a permanent solution to this problem?

The car you refer to was mine....As a courtesy to Porsche, I don't want to post too much info other than to say that the info silverrules posted is correct and the cause of the SF/latch issue is indeed due to static discharge. Also, Porsche have solved the problem, although it isn't readily available yet(I've had it installed in my car for about a month....and have polished the living cr@p out of the lights/car...absolutely NO PROBLEMS). Despite what we may think, Porsche take fixing these sorts of problems very seriously....I can't begin to tell you how responsive they've been (once the cause was identified). Extraordinary customer service

I think it is related to the extra internal Emergency Release latch in the front boot of US spec cars. I have yet to hear or see any RoW car owner report this fault on the Internet. That does not mean it has NOT happened. Have you heard of this reported in Europe, Carlos?
