    Surprising! I knew about the car getting clubbered but had no idea about the other contestant ... Don't want to ruin it so take a look.

    ..I wonder at what speed did the 996TT pass the bike??

    That bike has a top speed of maybe 275km/h, once it reached its top speed and it could not go further, thats when the others managed to catch up. The bike needs very little to reach that top speed as you can see from its acceleration, but the other had greater top speed and at the end they could catch up.

    Many people don't realise the acceleration performance of the current stock sportbikes, an 1000cc inline-4 can beat any supercar in acceleration and a thrill to drive since you don't even have a "cage" around you, and getting around the corners on two wheels is more complex.

    The 996TT could probably do 300km/h so once it reached its top speed is when it could make up all the lost distance it lost to the bike which was stuck at 275km/h very early on and was blown away by the 996TT at that point.

    However if they would of used a 1200-1300cc sportbike (like the Kawa ZX-12R or GSX-R1300 Busa), the 996TT wouldn't of catched up since they have similar top speeds. Or even the latest batch on inline-4 1000cc sportbikes, since they come now with close to 180HP.

    But what I didn't know is that the jet was so slow at the beginning until it was able to get some speed going...

    pfff... I think I would not want to get passed by a jet t these speeds... nice 'n hot!
    The jaguar (which is the jet they used, I think) is know for being able to fly very slow and relatively fast...
    I once saw a demo of two of them, one at top speed, the other at stall speed... very impressive!

    Is the R1's topspeed redline-limited?

    You have to bear in mind how much a fighter jet weights, they are not accelerating slowly in the beginning but rather at a very constant rate. Motorcycles and even more cars lose acceleration the faster they go, this doesn't come into account for jets at these speeds.

    Another reason might be that jetengines need a few seconds until they provide full thrust, depending on the engine type!

    Yes, but its not speed limited, so it will hit its Vmax in 6th gear before hitting irs rev limiter. In my GSX-R1000 its the same thing but with a greater top speed than the R1, but the funny thing is the digital speedo is limited to 299Km/h, even though the bike is not limited, the speed will not mark above 299km/h
