    Help with Ordering Options

I am considering ordering a Boxster S with the following:

Would appreciate any comments or suggestions:

Midnight Blue (or GT Silver with Cocoa or Grey-worth the extra?)
Brown Natural Full Leather (or Grey Full Leather??)
    PCM
Thicker three-spoke sports steering wheel in smooth leather
    Sport Shifter (?)
    Black Top
Re the 19 inch Carrera Clasic wheels-is this just a matter of how it looks? Is there any handling advantage to 19 inch wheels?
Active suspension management. (Is this what gives you the "sport" button to stiffen the suspension?
Sport Chrono-(if this gives you something beyond the clock)
    Automatic climate control
    Carbon package (?)
Porsche Communication Management (primarily because I understand this is the only way to get ability to play mp3s on the '06s)
Remote Six disc changer. (with the possibility of hooking up a Dension ice-link/ipod-Do you need the changer to do this?)
    Heated Seats.
Would like to get carpet in black (but one salesman says they cannot order deviating carpet anymore?)

    Appreciate any suggestions.

    Re: Help with Ordering Options

All cars come with MOST (Media Oriented System Transport I think!?) cabling to the cubby in the front trunk for CD changers, so you probably don't need to order the changer to prep the car for the Denison ice-link. Be aware though that many people are very skeptical that Denison will every produce it - they've been threatening to do so for years!

PCM is expensive, just for MP3, but I would probably be tempted myself... dunno what 3rd party MP3 solution might be round the corner though. You not going for the Bose as well?

Colour choice is really a personal thing. I haven't seen a carbon interior, so that would be interesting to see. Use the Configurator on the porsche web site to see exactly what this will look like. Often you need a combination of order codes to get the look you want.

Sport Chrono does improve the throttle response, and links in to the PASM if you have that I think too.

PASM is Active Suspension, which would give you the button.

You really need to take several test drives in different cars to find your ideal suspension, seat type, and Engine.

Which seats are you going for? Heated is worthwhile and doesn't cost much.

Automatic climate doesn't do that much over the normal air-con, so you might be happy dropping it. You'll have the roof off if it's nice anyway.

19" wheels is more of a look thing. Walter Rohl (Porsche test driver) prefers the 18"s.

The shifter is pretty good standard. Sport Shifter makes it stiffer and notchier apparently. I'd stick with standard.

Black carpet - just order some black mats?

PS.I know Carrera is spelt wrong - it was like that in the book, and I had a Blonde moment.

    Re: Help with Ordering Options

    Congrats on ordering.

    • Color choices - See WTSnet's post about recommended combinations. Best way to determine what you like is to check out the various options in the flesh, at your OPC.
    • PCM - Might want to combine it with BOSE if you like listening to music (standard or even sound package plus is pretty poor). PCM seems to grant better radio reception as well.
    • Thicker three-spoke sports steering wheel in smooth leather - Nice option, little cost.
    • Sport Shifter (?) - Can't comment.. haven't tried it.
    • Re the 19 inch Carrera Clasic wheels - Bigger wheels > less "tire" > harder ride? Not sure. I can't compare but I have the 19" tires with PASM and they work just fine. Ride quality is very comfortable unless I choose to stiffen it up. I would think the 18" wheels do just fine though.
    • Active suspension management - PASM give you the suspension sports/normal selection button. Sports chrono gives you the sports (throttle reaction etc)/normal selection button.
    • Sport Chrono - See above. Clock is ugly but reaction is so much nicer.
    • Automatic climate control - Optional. I have it but think this should really be a default option.
    • Carbon package (?) - Depends on color choice imho.
    • Remote Six disc changer - PCM II (mp3 capability) + BOSE alone might do the trick.
    • Heated Seats. - Nice option. Worth it (especially in moderate/cold climate zones).
    • Would like to get carpet in black - Could possibly order carpets extra through Porsche Tequipment or aftermarket suppliers?

When at your OPC, make sure you try both the sports seats and normal seats in extended test drives if possible. I would have chosen the normal seats but now that I have the sports seats, I love them.

    Re: Help with Ordering Options

Color - if you have the money for the special exterior colors and the special interior colors, go for it,otherwise, the money is better spent elsewhere IMHO
Full leather - if you can swing it, go for it, it gives the interior an upgrade in terms of looks, feel, and cabin smell
PCM - Not worth the 2600, you could get a very good Alpine aftermarket system for that much (I know I have an Alpine bias, especially F1) with better DVD Navi than included in the PCM. You need a top-notch installer though...
Sport Shifter - I don't think it's necessary as the distance between the gears has been reduced a decent amount already...
Wheels- I ordered the 19" Carrera Classics, for me its worth it, I like the look as comapred with the 19" S and the 18" stock..this is more a personal preference rather than something actually severely affecting performance...
PASM-Worth it if you are taking your baby to a track :-D Otherwise, don't bother
Carbon-I got carbon on mine - but not too much or else it looks VERY UGLY. I have carbon on the shifter, the handbrake and the cupholder trim along with carbon door entry panels, other than that it would be too much carbon...
    ACC-Get this!
    Six-Disc Changer-Go aftermarket (yes, Alpine) :-D
Heated Seats-No brainer if you are in the northeast or anywhere where you have to drive during brutal winters...I'm not driving my car in the winter, but I ordered it just incase

I've looked at this chart before and think someone was on drugs when they created it.....

Black with Palm Green interior recommended?
Guards Red with no Cocoa or Natuaral Brown???
Carrara White with no Sand Beige???
Carmon Red and Lapis with no Cocoa??
Atlas Grey with no Sea Blue (looks great), but Palm Green!
Midnight Blue with no Black, no two-tone, no Natural Dark Grey (excellent combo).

    Who dreamt up this thing?

Erm, Porsche. It's from their Price List book. Don't blame me!
