    My only complaint... seats... any suggestions?

    I have looked through the forum threads and I was hoping I'd find some information on the seats installed in my 911. If I had one complaint about this beautiful machine, it is the design of the installed seating. I like to recline just slightly back a bit and when I do so, I have zero neck and head support. It can be quite a strain when taking long cruises... Anyone have any suggestion on replacement seats that can provide nice support? I refuse to wear one of those silly neck pillows.

    Besides the comfort factor, it is also not safe for neck/head injuries, if for some reason someoone *cough* caused me to whip my body inside the car. It kinda irks me a bit that I'd pay such money for my car and have such terrible seats...

    Don't you find it uncomfortable trying to rest your head against the head rest when driving as it bounces around? I would think that this type of thing is more of a luxury car feature. At any rate, there may be something that attaches to the seat back that will act as support. Let us know what you come up with.

    You really should sit a bit more upright, and be able to drape your wrist over the top of the steering wheel, without pulling your shoulder off the seat.
    Then you are seated properly/

    After all it is not a barcolounger

    I've never seen anyone driving a car with their head nestled against the seat back / head rest . Isn't that ...zzzzzz....a ... zzz.... bit ... too...zzzzzzzzz..... relaxing ......zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz ?

    Hey, I know what you mean. How tall are you?

    Might be something that affects shorter people more. I've resigned myself to getting stronger neck-muscles. It's not as much of a problem in a normal car, as you don't get jolted as much.

    Do you feel the same way about the seats in the 997?
    You sound like you're looking for s seat-swap option...? That drivers seat is looking a tad more worn than the passenger side.

    I think some of you missed the key words "long cruises." I absolutely do not drive with my head back when I have heavy shifting, nor when I take my car out for a bit of fun driving in cornering, speed driving, or in rough road conditions. And I agree with you, you shouldn't drive in such a manner under those conditions.. especially when you are in some rough areas where you may be jolted around.

    I am talking about when I take some long rides to enjoy the day or weekend, as the case may be. And even if my seat is in a very upright position, I still have no support... and I suspect, yes, it may very well be my height. My head and neck fall in the indented arc of the seat. I have had sport cars all my life and I have never had this problem with their seat designs.

    I am not looking for luxury seating--I don't have a luxury car! I am looking for something to protect my neck and was hoping for some suggestions.

    I am glad you know to what I am referring to wtsnet... And I am a very petite woman, which probably says it all.

    Cool. I hoped I wasn't assuming too much! I have similar seating problems, but at least the 987 wheel adjusts for reach. I'm not sure the 996 does, does it? So you're forced to recline a little to get some distance from the wheel.

    Your leather looks pretty worn - would it be possible to get this restored, and at the same time discretely re-shape the top of the seat by putting some extra padding in the bit where your head goes? Probably a specialist job, but might make it more supportive without resorting to a pillow, and retaining the exisiting power seats. You Could possibly also put some padding in the seat base to lift you higher up the back rest. You might lose lateral support though, unless it was done skillfully.

    Either that or a 997 seat swap?

    I have never had to have special seats made for me because of my height... it is a very new concept for me to consider. I drove Nissan Z cars for many years and didn't have this problem, as well as many other types of smaller type vehicles (Lexus SCs, 944 Porsche), so I think I could fix this with just another seat design.

    I suspect maybe the 997 seat swap might be the best option. I haven't actually sat in one, but I am sure I can arrange doing so. I will talk to my dealer about this too and they can actually see what my problem is with the seats.

    Maybe a bad picture of my seats? Those seats only have 8K miles of driving on them.... I bought the car last July and had it parked for the winter most of the time...

    Oh btw... yes, you are absolutely right about the reach issue. I have my seat to the closest position as possible to the wheel, which fits perfectly for my legs, and if I sit in the most upright position I am practically on top of the steering wheel. So I adjust the back of the seat accordingly in order to sit properly in the car. The seat does adjust in almost every direction I can think of.... but, it doesn't prevent my neck from being in that indented arc

    Jenna, i m sorry about your problem, i like to seat with the back of the seat a little lowered when i m cruising, it gives a feeling of confort after a driving a while


    I assume you are the only woman in this forum ???


    Well, i think you could take some advice from some interior experts before consider swapping..

    Some of them do add some small pieces of material in specific places of the seat to make it more confortable for your body.. Not much so that you can re sell your car afterwards...


    I hope i helped you, havent find yet the solution in my 997 sports seats. i think Porsche could do better with their seats..

    An interesting point of this solution is that you don't touch the seats. They remain in their original state of art.
    You ONLY touch the driver's vertebral column, that has NO re-sale value oppositely to the leather seats !

    lol... does this indicate that one should have curves within the bone structure of one's neck in order to sit in a seat properly, such as the one I have? Maybe I should work on having bad posture... hehe

    Jenna, when I come back from BRBS (departure time in 60 minutes...yahoooooo!), we could have some coffee and you can try out my 997 seats. Checkout this site, too: http://www.recaro.com/englisch/index_frames.html. I think they also have leather seats in the racing shell design--saw them at the last Starbucks Rennlist drive on 22 May (picture included). I thought the leather Recaro seats looked perfect on the 996. I have to say the 997 sports seats are perfect for me in my "shortiness" of 68 in tall. I've never had a more comfortable and support seat in a car.

    Hopefully, the dude that had the Recardos will see this post and comment. I can't remember his name.

    I agree Dilinger that Porsche could do a bit better on their seating design. I may be shorter than all the men in this forum, but I have yet to ever have this problem with any car I have driven...

    I think your suggestion is a sound one and I will talk to some interior experts, as well as my dealer.

    Thanks for the compliment on my car... I absolutely love it. I think this one is a keeper for me. In other design considerations, Porsche does a very fine job in designing the looks, body style, etc., as well the power within, with their cars. They can be considered a work of art

    And yes, that is me in the avatar... Holminator can verify that for you, as he is in my club region in the PCA.

    Get a 997/S with adaptive sport seats. Porsche even knows the 996/986 seats aren't that great.

    The PCA is the Porsche Club of America, and if you would like to attend you need to catch a plane, rather than drive your Porsche lol.

    And to answer your question of actress or model, I'd like to say that sometimes having a little mystery is a very alluring attribute... wouldn't you agree?
