They have done away with the analog tachometer; all digital now. Cost-cutting measure?

    Did you mean analog SPEEDOMETER?

No, the tach; see images above. I know some people criticized the analog tach as a unnecessary retro touch, but looking at the pictures above, it definitely looks like something has been lost. Perhaps they will offer the analog tach as an option, though I doubt it.

    Re: 992.2

Good catch. Probably cost saving + need to show an update without changing much.

IMO the analog tach on the 992 was a very nicely done retro touch and it was beautiful to look at, removing it will be a shame and yet another thing that reduces the character...

I totally agree! It is a shame the way things are going. I love the analog gauges in my 997.

Also looks like they made the gauges overlapping now, so the outer two can be seen through the steering wheel (badly blocked in 992.1).

In the two images you posted above, what's the biggest circular dial in the center of the gauge cluster?  The one graduated 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 in red?  Has a digit "0" in the center, which looks like a digital speedo..

Sure looks like a tach to me.

Maybe you meant "mechanical" instead of "analog"???

He means the analog vs the new digital version. All dials are digital in the .2 it seems....

Yes, I think this is causing the confusion.

True, I should have chosen my terms more carefully: the "electromechanical" tach is gone, replaced by a purely electronic LED one.

A downgrade to me . surprise

    Re: 992.2

Good that they took out the analogue part of the binnacle, now. the who binnacle can fulfil its full potential by displaying only the rev counter during track days like the Lambo and new Ferrari. The analogue rev counter has always been a big mistake imho Smiley

Why does the new Tacho red line at 6700/6800rpm, I thought all 992s were designed for at least 7200rpm ?

With the new display it is possible the redline extends once warmed up.

Warming up an engine at 6700 rpm Smiley

    I stay at 3000 rpm

I'd argue it should for the price tag on it.

    Re: 992.2

Many factors probably drove this decision including costs; however, many reviewers and customers expressed concerns that the steering wheel blocked the outer gauges.  This layout allows for overlapping gauge cluster while providing different graphics determinant upon drive mode selected.  It also standardizes that the design with other Porsches including the Taycan and could also indicate that the 922.2 is going plug-in hybrid.

If you look closely, it's already warmed up.

    Re: 992.2

That red line is indeed low. Rumor says engines will be NA.

So maybe a big displacement with low red line ?  But looks more like the 3.0 turbo engine with that red line.

    Re: 992.2

The money Porsche will lose on selling colored dials they'll more than recoup on custom digital dash layouts--the Porsche Active Instrument Display.  There will be Ultimate Performance, Mechanical Or Racing Endurance and other editionsindecision

I wouldn't be surprised to see a 992.2 version with the 4.0L NA motor from the 718 series (but redline there is 8,000 rpm).  I wouldn't expect to see a redline lower than 7k on anything but a heavily turbocharged motor.

The steering wheel has always partially blocked the outer gauges in a 911. Not new to the 992.
