Problem with the sound system

I lost all audio whilst driving along a few weeks ago, quick burst of static and nothing. Went to the dealer as it was on my way home and when they started the car up everything worked fine. Concluded that it was something to do with the software controlling everything which reset after shutting everything off.

Worked fine until...this morning. Same thing again, driving along and the audio stopped after a burst of static. Will take to the dealer tomorrow (Sunday today) but have tried turning everything off etc but still nothing. Get a little bit of static when I insert the key into the ignition then no sound at all.

Anyone else had this kind of problem? I'll post an update when everything is fixed.

2003 Mercedes E500 had similar problem with their audio system. Seems it was a problem with the "gateway" module.

This get more and more weird.

Opened hood, ejected the multi-disc CD magazine, ejected the NAV dvd. Re-inserted both. Ignition key in - sound is back to normal.

Will still take to the dealer but interested if anyone else has experienced this.

Post your question on Rennlist....One of the members designed the DSP system for BOSE that is in the Porsche...he should be able to tell you what the issue is

I'm starting to wonder if Porsche & Mercedes took shortcuts on portions of the electrical system vis-a-vis proper grounding because they didn't think they needed to do it with the introduction of fiber optics. What do all of you think?

I encountered a similar thing on a 996 C4 test drive car. Audio occasionally didn't start after ignition was switched on. A PCM reset temporarily fixed it

Unfortunately, I don't know what Porsche did to repair it later. Maybe the PCM software just had to be updated.
When it happens to you next time, simultaneously press 1 + 4 + 8 on PCM and keep pressed until PCM display is switched off during reset. That trick probably still works on newer PCMs, too.
