This quote from Thai-Tang the new Director of Ford's

    in-house tuner operation turned my head and started me thinking. He considers the Porsche 911 the ultimate benchmark. He said;

"Those Porsches have a timeless quality about them. You see a 911 today, and it looks like a 1970's 911. They are evolutionary design changes. That sense of timelessness just fascinates me."

The last sentence of the quote registered with me. I will acknowledge there is a sense of timelessness when one looks at a Porsche. Nothing radical or offensive. It slowly matures and ages with a certain elegance. I can think of several high end products that have the same evolutionary timelessness.

In the future, when I look at a 911 I will see it differently.

Re: This quote from Thai-Tang the new Director of Ford's

So just how many Cher cd's did you listen to last night?

The 911 shape and style may go on for a hundred years, but I don't think the Cayenne will make it to 20.

Re: This quote from Thai-Tang the new Director of Ford's

So you're gonna buy a 997, Nick? At least go in for a test drive. I don't know how often you plan to drive the 430 but you can certainly use the 997 as your everyday car, like me.

    LOOOOOOOOOOOOL!!!!!!!!
Man, I almost sprayed my whole desk with freshly chewed dinner....
    Hehehehee.....

Re: This quote from Thai-Tang the new Director of Ford's

Nick, you are starting to worry me... are you feeling OK?

After all these years of despising it, a single quote changes your mind?
    You must have rock-solid opinions

(Yeah, i know it's just another trolling attempt, this time from another angle, but still, it's fun)

    Nick's just fortifying himself emotionally for his future '07 DSG 997 Turbo ( wife/Rolex SS "Daytona" Chrongraph/timeless ) to go with his future '07 F430 Spider ( mistress/Ulysse Nardin "Freak 2 V/h " /avant garde ) .

    Where's this leading to?

    It can't last!

Re: This quote from Thai-Tang the new Director of Ford's

Maybe this is a classic "if you can't pester them to fold...join them"-approach?

I have a feeling someething evil is lurking behind that sudden change of heart. I think his real name might be ANickin Skywalker...he will soon turn to the Dark Side again....
Along with Lord Vtrader...? (Uhu..me is unstoppable...)

But...with our combined strength we can end this destructive conflict and bring order to the Galaxy...

Maybe those Cher CDs trigged something deep in his psyche?
A hidden and long forgotten backdoor to where his love for Porsche once was? Hmmmmmm.....intrigueing....

Or maybe something else trigged him. Let's see..
    "ROSEBUD!" "ROSEBUD!" "ROSEBUD!"

    Any change?

The 430 Spider is scheduled for delivery before the end of this year. Working on colors now.

One of my hang ups with Porsche is the look alike concept. Each year a little tuck and there and viola you have a new model. The uniformity of style and design just struck me as a cheap way to go from one model year to another. My belief was that Porsche spent little money in styling their cars.

This take that it is an evolutionary timeless design is something I did not factor in when viewing the car. To me it was nothing more than laziness and German insistence that form follow function. Porsche, in my view was performance first and foremost, styling an after thought.

    Maybe it isn't.

Funny that you compare of the 911 and the Stainless Steel Rolex Daytona, becuase I have used that analogy myself. They so very alike in many aspects in their respective fields!

Yup , just like the venerable 911 going back to the 60s , evolutionary styling of the Rolex Daytona :

    60s Daytona :

    Newer Daytona :

And just like with the 911 often times , Daytona with questionable aftermarket bodykit :

Keep in mind that in the first part of the 20th century, the Hamilton Watch was timeless as well. Where is it now?

Re: This quote from Thai-Tang the new Director of Ford's

BTW, the Ulysse Nardin Freak 28'800 V/h : no hands, no crown , no dial - unlike any other wristwatch made . The Ferrari Enzo/ Carrera GT of watch tech. Check out how this dual escapement is made and works . Muy yummy.

    Funny thread!

They tried the revolutionary design change with my 928. Even though it sold well for a much more expensive car, it did not convince the diehard 911 boys.

Anyone see this months GT magazine?
