    Laser Jammers

What model of laser jammer is the best?

    Re: Laser Jammers

Blinder or Lidatek are a safe bet and regarded as the best ones, and then you have Escort's Shifter and Bel's Laser pro coming in second. A new one is coming out called the Laser Mimic which seems to work very well but its said it does not jam the new Atlanta "Stealth" Gun, but the Laser Mimic is not out yet.

    Re: Laser Jammers

Do these things really work? Everything I've seen suggests they're questionable. Get yourself a good radar detector.

    Re: Laser Jammers

Radar detectors are for radar, laser jammers are for LIDAR. The difference is that laser (LIDAR) "detection" is of questionable use since by the time you get the audible alarm, you have been clocked already, unlike radar, the laser is a fairly contiguous beam with little scatter nor bounces so you will not lickely pick up the laser beam unless its pointed at you directly (and laser takes about 1/3 sec to get a reading on you), with radar however you are warned well in advanced becuase the microwaves spread out and scatter around the area. So to avoid being caught with laser you need to jam it, just detecting it won't save you from the tickect.

Check out any test of the Blinder or Lidatek and you will see that jamming is very effective. "Passive" jammers (Rocky mountain and such) do not work however, only "active" jammers work, but they work well. Though ilegal in some places.

    Re: Laser Jammers

Absolutely work....I had one on my old 360, and was going a little quick on Sunset Blvd (was very little traffic....well that's my excuse)....Out of a drive way pops a cop with his laser...my radar went off, laser jammer came on....the next image I saw was in the rearview mirror...one police officer looking very perplexed as to why his laser gave an error!!! It was a couple years back before they were too familiar with jammers

Depends on your application. Since you're in TX and jammers are legal there, I'd strongly advise you to get the Blinder M20 or M40. It's the best jammer when it comes to LIDAR protection. Also, get the Laser VEIL and use it on your headlights and other reflective surfaces on your car. Good luck to the officer trying to clock you - he'll need it.

For anyone else living in a jammer-banned area, a Lidatek is a safe bet. Never puts out the E-14 JAMMED error code unless you're less than 30 meters from the officer. I'd use two heads (one head is standard) just to be on the safe side and VEIL on the reflective surfaces.

    Re: Laser Jammers

Also the Lidatek's transponder (LE-30) is incredibly small compared to the Blinder's since the Lidatek uses a Gallium Arsenide diode which is more potent hence smaller, and you can even get by with only one transponder if the car is not too big and doesn't have much chromed parts, while the Blinder uses two large trandponders. This adds greatly to the benefit of the E-14 codes in the Lidatek to those were its ilegal since its much easier to conceal, but if its legal in your area I would go with the Blinder like crash says.
Here in europe they are ilegal so I recomend the Lidatek LE-30, or the Laser Track LT-400 (derived form the Lidatek) which works also as a garege opener in order to try to circumvent the ilegality arguying that its your garage opener and that it can't help also interfeering with police LIDAR since the infrared laser which is uses is the same one for all legal laser appliances, a 904nm and 33Hz infrared Class-1 legal infrared beam, just lilke the one on your TV remote for example. Don't know if it actually holds up on court or not though.

    Re: Laser Jammers

I don't have experience with other systems but I really like my escort system. It features both radar/laser detection and laser shifting. There is one stealthy little control unit that I had mounted underneath the dash. It saved my behind on more than one occasion.

What I would like to add to this discussion is that whatever system you end up getting, have it build in by a professional. The way the heads are mounted -in my case in the front grille- is critical for proper operation. I understand that it is easy to mount it the wrong way.

    Re: Laser Jammers

How prevelent is Lidar in its use today? Just purchased Escort 8500 system(radar/laser)...wondering if I should take it back and buy something else. Escort manual also talks about POP Band, anyone know about this?

    Re: Laser Jammers

    answered my own question.....

POP is not a new band or frequency of radar. It is an ultra-fast, instant-on method of radar gun operation using existing radar frequencies. Radar guns operating in POP mode can get a speed reading of a target vehicle so fast that most radar detectors will not consistently signal an alert. At this time, there are very few radar guns in service in the U.S. capable of POP mode operation.

That's what I use. It seems to do the trick

If you're clocked by a radar gun using POP, tell the officer to check the last page of the manual. The MPH BEE III manual clearly states that POP is not to be used for actual "official" speed measuring and is only suitable for testing purposes. You could slam past him at 200 mph and he still shouldn't give you a ticket (you have to remind him, though). On a related note, Valentine 1 has pretty good POP detection if anyone is actually buying a detector for that. So, what do other Europeans on this board use? I currently have a Valentine 1 1.8 and am considering either a Lidatek LE-30 or the Target LT-400.

    Re: Laser Jammers

Thanks for all the input. I have ordered the Lidatek LE-30.

I'm considering which detector to buy. I have a K40 that I use from time to time now but was considering that Escort system w/ the laser jammers or a more conventional, less expensive unit like the 8500 or the Valentine 1. I like the idea of the Valentines arrows.
Do the arrows work well ? And why are you considering a different detector then the V1 ?
    Thanks.....

    Re: Laser Jammers

    Carlos,
With the LE-30 which radar detector do you use. I was just reading you ALSO need a radar when using the LE-30
    http://reviews.designtechnica.com/review1871.html

    Re: Laser Jammers

Correct Stardale. The LE-30 (like the Blinder) is only a laser jammer, its protects you agaisnt laser (LIDAR) but you still need a radar detector to defend against radar. You can use any detector like the V1 for example.

There are also radar detectors that incluse laser jammers like the Bel RX-75 plus or Escort ZR3 with Shifter System for example, but in my personal opinion I prefer to get them separately in order to get the best radar detector I want (V1 or a remote one like the Bel 975/966 for example for places were they are ilegal) and the best laser jammer for my needs (Blinder or Lidatek) and combine them myself. Since neither of these top products offer laser jamming. But thats just my opinion.

    Re: Laser Jammers

If you want to do a custom install....I think that Passport is a lot more flexible than the V1.....I know that you can have the V1 readout in your rearview mirror, but you still need to install the main unit somewhere inside the car.

I had the old SR1 and a seperate Laser jammer ( I think it was the blinder)....They were almost integrated, because whenever the blinder jammed the laser, the SR1 would also alarm and display 'laser' in the display.

Here's a pic of the SR1 (very similar to the SR3) The main unit was behind the front grill, along with 2 laser diode units, and the display was mounted in the roof console where a particularly cheap looking digital clock used to reside

    Re: Laser Jammers

Check out www.radarbusters.com, found this site to be extremely useful explaining options for detectors, jammers and associated costs etc.

Thinking about purchasing Escort ZR3 to go with my 8500 X50.

    Re: Laser Jammers

    Thanks.

Re: Radar detector to go with your Laser Jammer

The V1 tests better than any other model but even if it didn't it is worth buying just for the directional arrows. That aside, 90% of the tests at radarbusters.com seem meaningless unless you care about getting tagged while sitting still!

STRADALE, for more information check the Radarbusters forum at http://www.radardetector.net - it's actually non-commercial. I'm also a member there. As for the detector - I couldn't be happier with my Valentine, so no, I'm not switching it - only buying a laser jammer on top of it. For all you folks I should add that you can also install the V1 in the front bumper behind the grille. Just hardwire it and connect it to the optional remote audio adapter. The (again optional) concealed display installs into another one of the two power sockets and presto - a fully functional concealed radar detector.

The V1 installed behind a bumper....Is it waterproof?

From what I witnessed upon close inspection I would say it is, but nevertheless I'd rather out it in a housing of some sort. Just make sure it has a clear glass or plastic front, so you can also receive laser. Such installation improves Multanova reception under difficult conditions 3-fold (instead of 150 meters the reception is over 400 meters).
