How prevelent is Lidar in its use today? Just purchased Escort 8500 system(radar/laser)...wondering if I should take it back and buy something else. Escort manual also talks about POP Band, anyone know about this?

answered my own question.....
POP is not a new band or frequency of radar. It is an ultra-fast, instant-on method of radar gun operation using existing radar frequencies. Radar guns operating in POP mode can get a speed reading of a target vehicle so fast that most radar detectors will not consistently signal an alert. At this time, there are very few radar guns in service in the U.S. capable of POP mode operation.

If you're clocked by a radar gun using POP, tell the officer to check the last page of the manual. The MPH BEE III manual clearly states that POP is not to be used for actual "official" speed measuring and is only suitable for testing purposes. You could slam past him at 200 mph and he still shouldn't give you a ticket (you have to remind him, though). On a related note, Valentine 1 has pretty good POP detection if anyone is actually buying a detector for that. So, what do other Europeans on this board use? I currently have a Valentine 1 1.8 and am considering either a Lidatek LE-30 or the Target LT-400.
