Re: 991.2 GT3 Touring on tour

I went for the OEM pads again, because I use the car on track (mostly Hockenheim) AND in the alps for Mountain pass driving. The special track pads would not work perfectly on the street…they need more heat and are known for squeaking.

The first OEM-pads were good for around 17.500 Km hard driving including 8x Hockenheim and 1x Sachsenring (Full days track driving) - I can live with that.kiss

Re: 991.2 GT3 Touring on tour

...that's impressive ! Smiley ... perhaps, it is my poor driving but I just manage two (and a half..) events with a set of pads ... neither OEM nor after-market matter ... I plan to start "the season" May 1st in Monza ...

It makes absolutely no difference if driven on a track or on the street for the pads, expect if you instal 100% racing pads, which is not the case with the pads we have been mentioning above.  There are a lot of different type of pads to choose from adapted to street driving. The extra braking power is also felt when driving 50 km/h in town. I even use them on my DD Carrera S.  The down sides are : when used on track they will be harder on the disks and some will have  indeed more squeaking when driven in town.

But the ones were were refering to are street legal as they are not 100% track pads, but half street, half track. They are even installed legally by the OPC.  Disks are a different story. OPC don't install non original Porsche disks as this would cause warranty problems.

About the Manthey brake pads. They are manufactured by PAGID, the same company that makes the original Porsche pads. It 's  a slight different version then the original ones.

Ok, thanks - that's is weird (again, Pagid stresses that their pads are not road legal in Germany) and interesting (if and when Pagid manufactures these for Manthey),  perhaps I need to call Manthey and ask whether they have something for my non-GT car ... Smiley

Re: 991.2 GT3 Touring on tour

Manthey, as any OPC, is only allowed to install road legal parts on street legal cars. They install their Manthey/PAGID pads on any GT cars. I had mine done there.  Brake disk they refuse as they are not allowed. Same here at my local OPC.

Here is a photo of the Manthey disk pads boxe that I still have. You can clearly see they are PAGID.

And this is a photo of my original Porsche pads with the Porsche reference number on the left. You can also see clearly that they are manufactured by PAGID.

There ARE brake pads that have a certification, specifically the ECE R90 standard mentioned above. These certifications are expensive, hence only few (performance) pads have them.

I assume that Manthey has done the certification on their expense and has these specific pads produced for them exclusively. This would definitely be my first choice as well, maybe they can lead you to a pad that would be suitable for your car. If I remember correctly, it is a 981 GTS?

One of the few brands that seem to have a certification are from EBC, basically all their pads that are suited for road use. I have no personal experience but want to try them, opinions are mixed but depend a lot on the variables (which car, brakes, usage) and also which brake disc the pad is used with.

OK…next time Manthey pads…I will talk to them in April during the Service of my car at Meuspath.

Yeah, still a 981 GTS and now in its 8th year of providing fun ... Smiley ... End of last year I started to use the Brembo pads and these seem to be fairly attractive in usage (these last longer) and in terms of costs ... and as I was able to secure some in a sale of a part supplier I will use them and perhaps decide later in the year, what I will do ... have fun with Pistenclub !
