    Wec is uninsteresting now, we have to wait 2023. I love wec and fan of endurance to the bones, even I dont watch these races now, nothing to follow currently

     I know it's still a year away, but I can't wait to see the 963 race at Le Mans.

    Most outlets have reported the 4.6L engine is an enlarged version of the corporate 4.0L V8, but they are wrong  and it is in fact a detuned version of the 918's flat plane V8. Detuned as in to accommodate a couple of giant turbos to boost output. Not a bad base for a race engine, lightest V8 in Porsche's catalog, flat plane too.

    I sort of understands why Porsche would want to detune the engine for turbocharging. The e-motor output is capped at 67hp, 50kW, and the total combine output is between 643-697hp depending on BoP, a regular 918 engine combined with the e-motor will have no problem meeting that target, but if they detune the engine and slap a couple turbos onto it, they can maximize the low end torque, the 918 motor itself isn't known for great torque output. And the e-motor's output can be use at the top end as to not deplete the smallish battery, ~1.3kWh, too quickly.

    I have a more than usual attachment to the 963 just because of the engine. Gonna be so cool to see that engine race.

    918's V8 is based on the RS Spyder V8, a true racing engine.

    Porsche could not make a better choice...

    Good choice, but.......weight is not an issue as the minimum engine weight is "huge" and also important to remember that this is now a BoP class.

    Yeah, but with the basic weight under the regulation, they can creatively place extra weight where it is more advantageous.

    Not only overall weight restriction. There is also a minimum engine weight restriction. All in the name of "cost savings".

    I'm guessing they have strengthened the internals (due to large turbos) and the Turbos must be quite big and heavy. This all adds weight.

    The 918 engine itself weights ~135kg. LMDh regulation states engine must be min 180kg fully dressed. Some 45kg to play with. The turbo and stuff will eat in to that. 

    Perhaps they are doing an extra heavy oil pan to drop the Cg Smiley

    Car #5 and #6 should carry full factory livery that was on at Daytona. 

    Maybe car #75 will carry the Singer livery.

    Exactly the same. It will be a customer car. The real reason behind Porsche choosing to go down the LMDh path.

    This is the first of four customer cars for this year. Next season there may be another four.

     

    BTW - Drivers will be Antonio Felix da Costa (Porsche FE), Will Stevens and Yifei Ye
