car delivery and some aftermarket questions

after much deliberation, I chose a car and it has been delivered!

    2005 996 Turbo S Cab

The car is speed yellow/black interior. some of the options:
yellow deviated stitching, full carbon fibre package, yellow seat belts, painted center console, etc...

I am very excited about the car, but wish to improve power slightly and change the exhaust sound. I have the exhaust part under control, but I'm wondering about aftermarket ECUs, warranty issues, etc. Any opinions or impressions? I have no problem leaving the car stock until the warranty is up.

Re: car delivery and some aftermarket questions

You wish to improve a Turbo S's power? Whoa
Are you sure you can fully exploit 450hp?

Re: car delivery and some aftermarket questions

Drive it stock or a year, then decide. Evo and others can tune that beast beyond 600hp when you're ready, but TTS power is plenty. Enjoy, and congratulations!

Re: car delivery and some aftermarket questions

I realize the power is plenty. As for exploiting it, the car will not be tracked very often as it is a bit of a porker. To its credit, it hides the weight very well -- but as someone who has access to several race cars including open-wheel setups, orienting this car for track performance would nullify the reasoning for buying it. It will predominantly be used as a regular road car and to have fun on the weekends.

Many of my friends have very fast cars (Diablo, Gallardo, 575, F40, F50, Enzo) so I was considering some power upgrades simply to "up the ante" a bit for straight line driving when we go for Sunday cruises

Back to the ECU issue...what is the general concensus on AWE Tuning? Is Evo the best option? Do they have a website or anything like that? I do plan to wait for a while (most likely the duration of the warranty) but am interested in finding out what my options are early on.

Re: car delivery and some aftermarket questions

A properly prepared TTS is not a porker. I have an X50 TT, added a JRZ suspension, and lightened the car. So far this year, in 5 races it has finsihed near the top, beating all of the GT3s and cup cars I raced against, as well as the Ferrari Stardales. For me, the big advantage was learning to maintain boost in corners, so that the car wouldn't bog down exiting the turns. the power upgrades are almost limitless for your car.

Re: car delivery and some aftermarket questions

I'd recommend GIAC tuning. Evolution Motorsports and ImagineAuto both use GIAC tuning... EVO

I have Porsche's X73 suspension and the EVO Stage 2 computer upgrade...the power and handling are both GREAT!

Enjoy! I love my '05 Turbo S Coupe. As far as modding goes, most mods under 600hp won't have much if any effect on durability- most tuners will attest to this. Of course, Porsche is under no obligation to cover a blown modded motor.

Over 600-650 at the crank, things wear faster, and much above that things start bending and breaking. Ruf offers a warranty on their conversions, but Ruf is quite pricey, and the other tuners are now making more real power than Ruf. The tuners that I'd trust with my car- Ruf, Evo, Gemballa, Imagine Auto, Cargraphics, Akurrat(sp?), PES, and after some time to establish that they're not going anywhere, Orton.

Re: car delivery and some aftermarket questions

first mod to all turbos should be X73, very nice suspension, and OEM to boot. cant go wrong.

Re: car delivery and some aftermarket questions

    Hey guys,

here are some photos of the car at the dealership! I plan on detailing the car and taking it for some better pictures with "pretty" scenery in a month or so

Re: car delivery and some aftermarket questions

    I'd suggest EVO or Gemballa

    Evo website: http://www.evoms.com/porsche%20ec%20art%20test.htm

    Gemballa website: http://www.gemballausa.com/

two great tuners, and while a lot of people whine about the reliabilty of such drastic horsepower increases, they really have improved...get your TT past 600 hp, you'll love it

Re: car delivery and some aftermarket questions

...just as an add on, if you're looking for a simple ECU upgrade look at EVO (says on their website: http://www.evoms.com/p996tt%20computer.htm that they can get up to a 140-150 hp increase with ECU). I love the sound of Gemballa exhausts, but since you said that you already have that covered, maybe you just need to focus on EVO

    hope that is helpful
    Colin
