Something broke in my gear box
Earlier today I was re-fueling my car, as I finished I put the car in first gear and suddenly felt something snap and come loose. At that moment my shifter went loose and I could not feel the "gates" between the gears. Fearing for the worst I called my dealer and explained to them the situation. On way to the dealer, I decided to stop at home and get my briefcase (as I expected to be at the dealer all day). To my suprise, the car would not go into reverse!!! Luckily, my driveway is on an incline and I was able to roll down. When I arrived at the service dept., my advisor quickly removed the middle counsle panel and began assesing the problem. We discovered that it was a small cylinder plastic peice that fits directly infront of the gear box (forgive me for the lack of detail in describing the problem). Part of the peice had broken off but we were able to fit it back in place. As we were discussing the problem, we discovered that we had mutual friends at a local BMW service center. As a result, he gave me a private tour of the service facility where I was able to view F430s, TurboSs, Astons, Lotus Esprits, and just about any other desirable sports car being worked on. Needless to say, the part has been ordered and I have had a wonderful service experience once again. Compared to the service for my previous car, this was a great experience.
Just thought you all would like to know about my morning at the dealer.
