just seen in the may 2005 "EVO" about the CAYMAN: ".....the rest of the spec is thougt to reach almost clubsport levels, and there is the talk of lighter body panels and limited creature comforts inside. ...perfect for a weekend away at the Nürburgring, where Walter Röhrl has already bettered the 997's 8min 15sec lap time."

It is funny that a lot of people, incl. some car magazines, seem to think that the Cayman is a lightweight, "track-worthy", clubsport racer. The Cayman is what it always supposed to be: a Boxster Coupe...before some clever marketing guy developped a nice sales strategy: adding 15 horses and giving the Boxster Coupe a new name.
And this strategy seems to work great...
If it's faster than the 997 on the Ring, it makes a nice track car in my opinion... Sure not on GT3 level, but still.

I don't have an issue with the fundamental concept of the Cayman S being based on a Boxster - my problem is the rumour that it's going to be positioned above the Boxster and 911 C2 with a Pounds40k+ price tag in the UK. Way too much methinks

Porsche's marketing chief Hans Reidel says in this month's Motor Trand mag that the Cayman will be more expensive than a Boxster BUT ( at first what seems paradoxical ) attract a younger buyer .
My interpretation : Boxster appeals to " internet bench racer " crowd AND baby boomer empty nester crowd who want wind in what little hair is left , raising avg age .
Cayman, being a closed car , will appeal to the experience of just driving - therefore younger .
What is the average age again of the Boxster driver (35-40) compared to 911 (45-50)? So the Cayman would aim at early 30-ers?
Don't think it will work like that. Cayman will take some Boxster drivers, some 911 and maybe a TT driver that want's to upgrade. don't think it will take a lot of new buyers.

Thanks guys. Weren't these posted a while back though? I thought the Cayman was going to get round foglights? I'm interested to see how that would alter the appearance (I have no imagination ).
