Does anyone know anything about this picture ?

I found this picture in a translated german magazine, next to an article about the 40 years 911's career.
It looks like a suggestion on how the next 911 should look like.

I love the headlights and the intake from the rear side of the car.

    Comments ?

Re: Does anyone know anything about this picture ?

    A romanian car magazine?

This picture is more than a year old.
It is actually not a picture but a computer generated image.

It has been used in conjunction with a rumor that Porsche plans a 4th model, a so called "Grand Tourismo" to compete with cars like the Ferrari 575 Maranello or Aston Martin's Vanquish for example. The updated 911 (997?) will look completely different, I can assure you that.

Re: Does anyone know anything about this picture ?

I am planning in buying a Porsche being fed up with the BMW and Mercedes on-street images.

The roads are not so good around here, so I prefer the Carrera4 over the 4S because of one additional centimeter of ground cleareance.

The only problem I see is the 997 facelift. I will hate to buy the car and 6 months later to want to change it.

Re: Does anyone know anything about this picture ?

If you're living where I think you're living, go for a Cayenne Turbo.
It doesn't make sense to drive a sportscar over there, especially for three reasons:
    1. sooner or later your tires/suspension will make problems
    2. imagine somebody bumping into your car (a Dacia for example )
    3. ground clearance
If you still can't resist buying a Porsche, go for the 996 C4 and do not order M30.

But trust me: a sportscar is no fun over there, a Cayenne Turbo is a power beast and you can impress people too.

Regarding the 997: the 997 is rumored to have a more classic look, a modern interpretation of the 993.
There are however attempts to change design a little bit, so nobody actually knows precisely how it will look in the end.
Don't worry, the 997 is rumored to come out 2005 (summer) as a MY 2006 car.
2004 (MY 2005) might be the year of the new Boxster.

Porsche sales seem to have dropped substantially, changes are always possible. But I highly doubt you'll see the 997 in 2004. However it can't be excluded that 996 sales drop even more and Porsche might choose to put the 997 on the market at the same time as the new Boxster. Surprise, suprise.

BTW: a Mercedes S600 or a CL600 would be nice choices too. They have lots of power with their bi-turbo charged engines and they are prepared for bad streets too.
Just a suggestion from somebody who knows RO pretty well.

Re: Does anyone know anything about this picture ?

I wouldn't trust anything coming from that magazine
IRC, it's the same magazine that published an article about the future Porsche GT (along with some fake computer generated picture), saying something along the lines of "poor reliability and crappy manufacturing killed the sales of the 928".

True, but the majority of them think that the cayenne is just another tuareg with porsche badge.
Indeed, they'll change their minds when they'll see the cayenne turbo fly away, but still..

Anyway, pentium, it seems that this year porsche will launch the turbo and c4s cabrio, you might wanna wait for them.
If you fancy cabrios, that is

Re: Does anyone know anything about this picture ?

Wow, another one from RO. Great! Welcome, this site is getting more and more international.

A Cab might not be the best choice for Romania. A sharp knife, a bad mind and you have a pretty expensive experience. But I guess this can happen anywhere...
An additional argument which speaks against a Cab: the bad streets (body torsion).

Is the torsion so bad, compared to a carrera, for example?

The torsion isn't really bad but a Cab with a soft top can never be as rigid as a fixed top Coupe. I remember I drove with a friend in his BMW 328i Cab back in 2001 when I visited RO the last time. He wasn't very happy with the Cab because of noises it made after he owned it several months in Bucharest. I suppose it won't be different with a 996 Cab.

Re: Does anyone know anything about this picture ?

I read that amongst cabs, Porsche are the stiffest though?
    True?
    Fanch.

Re: Does anyone know anything about this picture ?

I also read that the 360 spider was "almost" as stiff as the coupe.
    Fanch.
