    Damn Puncture.

Can't believe it. Got a puncture yesterday. Fortunately was driving near my dealer so they were able to look at it straight away. Unfortunately, a nail entered part of the side wall so a new one was needed. Cost - Pounds397.90 OUCH!

    Re: Damn Puncture.

Is that right, Pounds397.90 for a tire? That works out to $760 USD. That's outrageous if that is what you are talking about.

    Re: Damn Puncture.

I blew a rear tire recently on my 997s and the tire alone was $484. They charged me another $60 to mount and balance as well as a disposal fee. The tires are not cheap.

    Re: Damn Puncture.

Yep - That's why it's called 'Rip-off Britain'. I had no choice as I could'nt have the tyre fixed and nobody else had one in stock. This is the price for the rear 19" 295/35 M Sport from a Porsche dealer supplied, fitted and balanced.

    Re: Damn Puncture.

    Crickey.

I had a new 19" Carrera S tyre last week from Porsche West London .... Pounds260 fitted including repair bottle.

And I thought I was charged a lot!

    Re: Damn Puncture.

Well you can always buy Porsche tyre insurance, Pounds25 per tyre per year. Tyre replaced as long as there is 3mm+ of tread left.

    Re: Damn Puncture.

Same thing for us is Pounds156 for the tire alone at tirerack.com

Part of the price difference between USA and Europe will be a "cultural" difference. Prices in USA are always quoted without sales tax (typically 6 - 8%, depending on state?), but in Europe they have to be quoted to "end users" including VAT (value added tax) which is typically maybe 15 to 20%, depending on country.

And then there's the currently weak dollar, making shopping in the USA look particularly attractive at this time.

    Re: Damn Puncture.

No sales tax if ordered online, just shipping and install

    Re: Damn Puncture.

When I collected my car in March the dealer threw in the tire insurance free for 12 months

    Is that right?

Wish our legislators were dumb enough to let a neat trick like that get past them.

Considering our high VAT rates, companies like Amazon, etc., could really clean up.

Yeah, every year or so, our congress tries to allow sales taxes on sales over the internet but it gets slapped down everytime.

Can't believe it. This is where I got the tyre from! Bastards. Last car I buy from them.

If I was you I would have a serious conversation with them. Only you do all the talking

    Re: Damn Puncture.

I picked up my new 997S cab on Friday and bought 5 year tire and wheel insurance for $299.00. They will replace a tire and/or wheel if they are damaged. Since these tires and wheels are so expensive and there are so many potholes now I thought this might not be a bad investment.

    Re: Damn Puncture.

Seems like 997 19" tyres "fall in combat" like flies...
I heard off 3 punctures in two weeks time... one even had to change the wheel too

Yes, I'd be curious if you end up taking advantage of it.

    Re: Damn Puncture.

As is usual in rip-off Britain we pay more and get less. Pounds100 ($191) for 4 tyres for one year and it does not include damage to wheels. I am tempting fate here, but why are there more reported punctures and gremlins on 997's than Boxsters?

    Re: Damn Puncture.

Thanks for the info. RE: Tyre insurance - I'm definitely taking it up.... Pounds100 for 1 year.... looks like good value.

it would be the same price in Croatia

Dreamcar, where did you find that insurance, if I may ask? I'd be happy to look into it but when I called West London Porsche today, the service person said they know of no such thing as a tire insurance, certainly not for new cars. He speculated it might be possible to obtain such an insurance from Broadway Tyres upon purchasing a new tire (their source of tires), but wasn't sure.

    Re: Damn Puncture.

My OPC Porsche Centre Bournemouth. It's a Porsche Insurance product. I wasn't offered it, I had to ask. It is dealt with by the after sales / service dept, although my sales guy knew all about it. I am sure Bournemouth would be only too pleased to advise / arrange it for you if West London can't be bothered. Tel : 01202 897688. They need the serial numbers off the tyres to arrange cover. Don't know whether they actually have to sight the condition of the tyres before arranging cover, but it's worth asking. If you are coming to the Meet this weekend I will bring the leaflet along.

    Re: Damn Puncture.

    Perfect thanks!

    Re: Damn Puncture.

All I've got to do now is remember where I put it.

Phil, When I picked up my car in Mar here in NM, I asked about the tire insurance and the dealer said they did not offer that. Did you get an insurance policy from PCNA or something directly from your dealer? TIA.

My dealer is owned by the Power Automotive Group (Auto Nation) and it is something that they offer on their own.

The contract is with them. $299 for 5 years wheels & tires. Here is how it reads, "Repair or replacement of flat tire if repair is not possible, or wheel if damaged to the extent it fails to seal with the tire. Coverage of all costs associated with the repair or replacement of tires and/or wheels plus labor charges including mounting, balancing, valve stems, taxes and towing."

I thought it sounded pretty good....

    Re: Damn Puncture.

I'm going from memory, but my dealer sold me wheel/tire insurance, covering the car for the duration of my ownership, for $400 bucks. I took it. I suppose that they figure that most owners don't keep the car much more than 3-5 years anyhow. It's a small price to pay, if I ever actually use it.

    Re: Damn Puncture.

This tyre insurance is a great thing ... but only for the insurance companies and car dealer providing this.

You can be sure that they won't lose any money with that insurance. I think you should have a comprehensive cover for the big things like total loss. But don't lose money for tyre insurances.

Yes. The real proof is with anyone who has needed it. Did they honor the warranty or try to squirm out on a technicality? Anyone have any real life experience here?

For me it is worth it for peace of mind. If I don't get a flat tyre for 2 1/2 years then the insurance company is better off. Only time will tell. But in my daily drive I have had two flat tyres in that time. If this happens to my Porsche then Pounds250 cost of insurance against Pounds500+ for the two tyres is a fair deal.
