    Are all Ferrari folk deluded?

    I was just looking at the posts on the ferrari chat forum. There was a post by ChalStrad comparing the 430 with the CS. The follwoing is a quote from that post:
    "Overall, F430 is certainly an excellent car but a little insipid - almost Porsche-like. It seems to have lost its soul to the needs of comfort and easiness of operation".
    He can't be talking about the GT3.... comments?

    Maybe some Ferrari fans are biased. I am biased towards Porsche, to the point where I dont like Ferrari much at all, sorry to all the Ferrari fans. But I dont understand the comments about a Porsche being dull. I cant imagine any sports car, Porsche or Ferrari for that matter, being dull. A Porsche is a drivers car and translates everything to you. I cant imagine that as being dull?

    I assume he/she's referring to the popularly held concept that the 911, in evolving to the 996/997's of today, lost some of it's character, danger, and mystique. I imagine he/she believes the evolution of the 360 to the 430 has brought a similar conundrum: it's better, but perhaps less exciting.

    My view on this sentiment is that it's pure crap. The bottom line is that these cars ARE BETTER. Surely it cannot be less exciting to have more performance. There's nothing as exciting as operating a supremely engineered car. The "problem" is just that as the cars get better and better, the skills of the driver become the limit. Sure it's exciting to drive an old 911 at its limits, but does that mean that because one can do more and still not reach the limits of the new car that its less exciting because one is not operating at the limits of the car but rather at one's own limits? Is it less exciting to be challenged by a better car? How ridiculous.

    And as for comforts and ease of operation, these cars (well, Porsches at least) are meant to operate as daily drivers. There will be track oriented versions available for the "purists".

    I think the issue at hand has to do with aesthetics. Porsche is described as form following function, or if you're into aesthetics and latin, adhaerent beauty (pulchritudnous adhaerans) versus free beauty. The distinction lies within the functionality in relation to form in dependant beauty. The Porsche signifies the dependent beauty, while the Ferrari is more emblematic of free beauty.

    Just a perspective, because I personally like Porsche's aesthetics better; they're more quiet

    yup, hurst... I partially agree; Even if the porsche would perform like my peugeot, I would still love the looks. It is just a strong point that it is functional lines. And the ferrari; I wouldn't even love it when it would perform as good as a porsche... it just shouts "LOOK AT ME, I'M RICH!!!"... and that is an attitude I don't like

    IMO it's not that simple, a better performing car can be less exciting to drive.
