Re: Wandered to the dark side

Congratulations 🎉. Though I am a little surprised the yellow callipers did not put you off.

Re: Wandered to the dark side

I wouldn’t have spec’ed them but they work quite well on it in the metal. I was looking for a green car and any that come in tend to get snapped up quickly so had I hesitated I would most certainly have missed out.

Re: Wandered to the dark side

Looking very sharp, the tan interior works very well with dark green. Looking forward to more pics of it !

Re: Wandered to the dark side

It was quite amusing as a really nice couple were looking at the TDF at the same time and we were all admiring both cars. I'd have happily bought the TDF had he not taken it and he was thinking the same about my GTS smiley

Now that’s a pair! Don’t think you could’ve gone wrong with either, the 812 certainly is a more useable car.

Re: Wandered to the dark side

Very elegant choice, Iain, many congrats. wink

Though the Grigio Ingrid TdF is quite tempting as well. indecision

Re: Wandered to the dark side

    That's a lovely purchase!

I wouldn't have second thoughts on the yellow calipers. They matches the yellow Ferrari Shield after all.

If you were to change the caliper colors, you will also need to change the shield's color.........

The TdF is finished in Argento Opaco Stefan. It looks darker in the photo due to the overcast sky.

Looked a lot like Grigio Ingrid, a colour which I love on the big Ferrari ever since I saw it first on a 456M. Smiley

But now as you say it one can guess that the paint is matt, which does look good on the TdF.
Still prefer Grigio Ingrid though. Smiley

Re: Wandered to the dark side

Any thoughts on how much value these RHD cars will retain after Brexit? The new thing here is customs for car sales from and to EEA countries.

Is Brexit value positive or negative for exclusive cars?

Nice way to jump the GTS line Iain!  I love the colour and the seats, I could live with the calipers but would change the wheels.  All in all lovelySmiley

Please let me know if you find the suspension has been upgraded from the 812 SF.

Re: Wandered to the dark side

Brexit has had zero negative effect upon pricing here. As a side effect of Covid restrictions/lockdown fatigue/lack of opportunity to spend cash on holidays etc the market here has gone crazy for high end cars. Prices have firmed up and risen on most with some crazy asking prices that are being paid.

If it is any indication of how hot our market is I arrived at the dealership around 10:30 am yesterday. By the time I left around 4 hours later - I met a friend there - they had sold around 7 cars from their used car stock ranging in price from around £160k to £1m. There were 3 people booked to view the F12 TdF and the first viewer bought it. There was someone else waiting to see the GTS I bought, who was hoping I was going to pass. Another dealer I was speaking to in a different area of the UK who was looking for a suitable GTS for me said he'd also had a very busy day selling approved used stock. He said his dealership had their best ever year last year in spite of the restrictions and lockdowns.

Re: Wandered to the dark side

Surely this can't continue for ever. Some people are talking about the end of the pandemic towards this summer. Impulse purchases have the risk to be unwanted after life returns to a normality.

How much wanted these cars will be given that the UK is a small market and now is cut from the big European market? Still I don't get it how the market will hold in the next 3-5 years.

Re: Wandered to the dark side

The UK is one of the biggest markets for these types of car. Here are the figures for Ferrari for 2019 and 2020 by way of illustration. It is a fairly similar story for Porsche, Lamborghini etc. My Lamborghini dealer won the award for highest volume of Ad Personam personalisation sales in 2020 in the entire Lamborghini worldwide network.

We have never really been linked to the European market in terms of cars due to the fact we drive on the left so our cars are RHD. There is a small market for driving LHD cars, especially those only made in that configuration, but the trade on the regular LHD models has mostly been due to currency exchange fluctuations making them an attractive proposition when they have proven a cheaper way into ownership for some buyers. There has always been a buoyant trade for UK luxury and exotic cars to other RHD markets such as Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Singapore and Hong Kong.

    Screen Shot 2022-01-23 at 21.04.24.png

I think you are forgetting the size of the UK economy. We are currently ranked the 5th largest economy in the world. In addition to the wealthy UK clientele there are a significant number of wealthy individuals from around the world who choose to live here on a part or full time basis. The dealer I bought my GTS from yesterday deals with a Greek owner for example who has property in London and has a collection of luxury cars here, one of which I was admiring during my visit.

UK, great country, nice economics, but climate... even for Russians its so so))) and also the wrong position for the steering wheel

Re: Wandered to the dark side

Quick update, the car is STILL at the dealership.

The new engine is fitted, but a testdrive first revealed a rattle, and then after a prolonged testdrive that engine warning light came on. Despite having a new engine. angry

Needless to say, I'm fed up, the car has spent more time at the dealerships (literally) than it has back home. I'm at the point that I want Ferrari to take the car back or make a commercial gesture. Anyone had similar experience, or a course of action to recommend? The dealer didn't show any willingness for any commercial gesture up until now.

Sorry to hear that news.  In the States we have lemon laws to protect consumers in similar situations.  We used it once for a car that kept stalling. Hopefully, there is a similar law or process in Switzerland.

Re: Wandered to the dark side

Someone can reject a product including a car. I did that once some time ago.

But does this also apply to used products?

That said, I'm not looking to be fully refunded, but that they take it back at market price with some commercial gesture is the least that could be expected when a 400K CHF car spends more time in the dealer than outside.

Not in the same league but I handed my (leased) X5 over to the dealer when it stayed in the shop for weeks, two years in a row. Separate issues but the dealer did everything to let me make a painless swap to a new 7 series. No questions asked.

Would be an option if I'd be looking to trade it for another Ferrari but that's not really the case at the moment.

Not really looking, very happy with the 996 RS. Wouldn't mind a modern iteration next to it at some point.
