    US Delivery?

    Hi All,

So I have some spare time on my hands, and wonder about doing a US roadtrip to see some of the many things I've not seen in the US yet - and this got me wondering.  You guys enjoy the Porsche ED and it's a great opportunity to drive around in a nice car, and create some memories given it's your own to keep.  What I'm wondering is - is there such a thing as US delivery?  Could be a chance to pick up a GT500 or something for cheap and ship it back..  Anyone ever heard of such a scheme?

Shmee just put out a video recently talking about a GT500 he has in Miami and what he would have to do to import it back to Europe.

    Re: US Delivery?

Hehe, yeah, I braved my phobia of Shmee videos and watched that one for that reason - but he was talking more about the import issues than the practicalities of buying in the US as a non-resident for export whilst driving it around the US for a bit. I live in Switzerland and there’s quite a few for sale here so clearly that side’s possible.

Apologies Tim - you were nice to me at the ‘ring indecision wink

Shmee is just obnoxious on his videos. In person he is a really nice and great guy. I met and hang out with him for quite a bit at the Pagani factory a while ago.

    Re: US Delivery?

European Delivery exists as a loophole originally for US servicemen to import car purchased while serving in Europe.  I did it a while ago with Volvo and got free airfare for two to Copenhagen, hotel, a couple other goodies and 30 days to drive around before the car had to be on a ship.  You're legally a US citizen privately importing a used car to the US so there are some tax advantages.  I can't imagine these circumstances exist going the other direction.

    Re: US Delivery?

Agree, He seemed very professional and personable in every interaction I saw, and took time out to help me park. Zero upside in it for him but he still took time to do so. Also pleased to do selfies etc for people who wanted them. Stand-up guy even if old farts like me are not his target audience kiss

Thanks - the googling I did turned up results for US servicemen. Clearly that’s not me, but most countries are happy to export stuff tax-free. I guess I’m looking for the possibility to use it for a month or so touring around on some temporary or dealer plates..

    Re: US Delivery?

Dave, my hunch is your best bet is just to buy gently used from Carvana or Carmax, drive for a month, then sell back.  Given the crazy new and used car markets, that may cost less than a rental (and you may even profit).  Trying to get a Swiss spec car through a US dealer sounds like a lost cause even in normal times.

When you start planning an itinerary there are plenty here willing to share their thoughts.  If you're planning on staying in any national parks make your reservations ASAP as the lodges book super early.

    Re: US Delivery?

If you buy a Porsche in the US, buy it in Oregon. They have no sales tax on cars. Title snd registration cost will be about $300 to $400 on any new Porsche.. Carvana should be avoided period. They are known for taking months to deliver titles. CarMax is legit, plus they would ship the car to a Oregon CarMax dealer, just pick a CarMax in Orwgon to buy from.

    Good 🤞

Got the same vibe and confirmation by every single person who met and talked to him in person. So weird.

I think his videos would have more reach and acceptance if he would change his style presenting them but maybe he is scared to do that because he thinks this annoyance is his signature? I don't know. Smiley

He doesn't come across as a bad person on the videos at all, not to me at least, even seems humble and good manered, it's just that the way he speaks and vocalizes on camera is annoying to listen to and the "hello it's schmeeeeee", etc. but I can see him being a super nice guy in person.

But you will need an Oregon DL and an address there for that, right?

No you don't. You would only need a Oregon address if you intended to register it there. Driver's license can be from anywhere, even Kyrgstan. Example, you live in Nevada, but buy a car in Oregon. The Oregon dealer will give you a temporary registration. It's up to you to then register the car later in Nevada and pay any applicable fees license there when you do so  there. You could buy and export it, they don't care. Or buy it, sell it back after 30 days, they don't care.
