    Re: [2022] Formula 1

    Whoopsy:

So, I met an old friend for drinks earlier. He is a diehard NFL fan. American Football all the way, because of COVID, he start watching other sports on TV last year, one of them Formula 1.

He knew I am a racing fan, so we start talking about the 2021 season. He was like did you see how Hamilton put Max in the hospital? And didn't get any meaningful penalties? And also talked about how Max beat Hamilton on the last lap on the last race?

I was like, yes, I watched everything, real time.

He was like YEAH! Max won. He is the future, beating the old stuck up Hamilton.

So I start explaining things about it in American Football terms. In Silverstone, the collision between Hamilton and Max is like rouging the passer rule, automatic 1st down and 15 yards penalty. Doesn't matter if the QB needed to go to hospital to get checked out or if he is out 20 weeks with a concussion. Rules are clear about the penalty being assessed for the incident and not the resulting injury. He got it. He was like cool. He understands more. It's about how the contact was made, but not the resulting injuries or whatnots.

And on the last race, Abu Dhabi. The restart. He was like yeah, that was great for Max, he is primed to pass Hamilton and he did. Fair and square. Max is worthy and is the future.

I reminded him what Masi did was the same as the referee ignored the 2 min rule and instead kept the clock running. hence why Max was given the chance to overtake Hamilton on the last lap. He was like WTF. You can't bent the rules like that. I was like but that's exactly what they did.

He said the ref can't do that. I said that's exactly what happened. 2 minutes left, NFL officials ignored the 2 minute rule and let the clock run down while defending team ran down the clock with 40 sec rule each down. He finally gets it about the last race.

I told him no. Max could have wrapped up the title a long time ago if not for his brain dead moments. He was like so the 'league' was trying to infuse some excitement for the last race, I was like yeah, that pretty much sums it up

At least he finally gets it.

Don't really cared if one for two or whoever is offended cause I am not a Max fan. Not my problem. I just called it as it is. You can go enjoy getting your panties bunched up in a string.

Smiley And what happened when a Referee Crew in the NFL really botched a call at the beginning of the playoffs this year?  The crew was benched and not allowed to work another game this year.

US football is hardly an example of enforcing all rules consistently.  Anyone making this argument has never watched football.

There are some 'hard' rules, that's not for subjective rulings in NFL. 15 mins length for each quarter, 2 minute warning, etc.

Same with the Formula 1 rule book regarding the deployment of safety car and ending of the safety car period and what happened during. These aren't up for debate, it's the very framework of the regulations that's not up for interpretations.

What Masi did with the safety car back in Abu Dhabi is the same as in a NFL game, one team is leading with 5 minutes left, the other team has the ball and on attack, let's chop the time left to 30 seconds instead. Or the attacking team is within a couple yards, but running out of time, let's extend the quarter by another minute or 2 so they can finish off the scoring. Or not stopping the clock with the 2 minute warning.

The new AM looks really good and in general I thin the new cars look way better... now the more important thing is that the cars will be closer performance wise... and I would love to see it if there would be some surprises this year from teams no one would have expected to perform well!!!

Very excited and looking forward to the new season!!!indecision

    https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/vettel-hopes-masi-sticks-around-but-calls-for-rules-clarity/8052059/

    I think Masi stays.

Whatever the FIA's 'investigation' will find, it won't change the results of last year.

There is no point. People have eyes and brain, they can see how the last race was rigged in the last 5 mins. Or last 2 mins. For educated race fans, Lewis was the legitimate winner and thus WDC champion of 2021. For everyone else, Max won, that's alright also, he did basically lead the championship practically from start to finish.

It really isn't Masi's fault. He was under the impression to give a good 'show', he forgot the details about his mandate, aka the FIA's own rule book. Christian and Jonathan gave him too good an excuse not to listen to 'suggestion'. But it has always been Red Bull's MO to do such a thing. Nothing new there. But for coming seasons, a rule have been set to prevent teams from influencing Race Director decisions.

To save face and also their dignity, they will throw Masi under the bus somewhat, the 'investigation' will conclude Masi made some 'inconsistent' decisions regard how the race was ran, but they, aka FIA, will claimed Masi was 'confused'. But he generally did a good job and will continue. They don't really have anyone to replace Masi anyways.

Masi might get a reminder pm about it's ok to finish a race under safety car as the rule specifically say they can. I mean, see no farther than Spa 2021. It may not be the most satisfying way but rules are rules. The primary objective was fulfilled

For most people, the 2021 season has 2 WDC winners, Max won his first and Lewis deservingly should have gotten his 8th. 10, 20, 30 years down the road on Wiki and other publications will state that properly. Max led all season and if not for some mental lapses, he would have wrapped up his firs title with races to spare with such a superior car. Lewis made a valiant effort to overcome a more superior car with his own driving ability to make a case for him to be a legitimate WDC also, that's how things have evolved up until the last 3 minutes of the last race of the season.

While I am well known to be not a Max fan, but objectively, he really deserves to be the WDC for 20221. He has by far thesuperior car all year, and his performance in that superior car and getting the results that he needed in order to win a WDC. And despite him throwing away points all season, he still maintained a big enough lead heading into the last race in order to win. If that was a more matured Max, the title would have been decided a long time ago, perhaps as soon as Brazil or even before that. I think this experience will help him a lot for the 2022 title, points are better than personal vendetta. Every single point counts.

As for Lewis, he did everything within the rulebook to chase down Max up until the last race. Mercedes and him did a perfect Jon up until the last 3 minutes, or 2 minutes of the season, he was like 20 seconds cleared of Max from start to almost finishing the last race in order to claim his 8th, there is really nothing more he can do himself. 3 minutes left between him and his 8th WDC when the rulebook was thrown under the bus. Enough said.

    Re: [2022] Formula 1

I agree with all that but was the RB really superior to the Merc. I would wager it wasn't.

Fairly evenly matched, imo, with Max just being a bit quicker across all of the races.

The darting inside overtake by Max in that last lap of the last race basically told the story of the whole 21 season.

Cant wait for the 22 season. You go Russell, you go.

Masi should have let the lapped cars pass a lap earlier….

I thought Jacque V’s thoughts on this were interesting BTW.

That said, finishing under SC would also have been problematic. And the in car commentary from LH as Max pitted also suggested his initial gut reaction was they may have made a mistake.

is what it is. Looking forward to things kicking off.
