Gnil:Price sounds steep. But it depends also what they are doing. If they change all disks and pads then the price is right, even low. Tires ?
If only the check up with no change of hardware then it is way overpriced.
Good point, that's true, if it includes change of parts like discs or tires then it's reasonable, but that is not part of the 30k maintenance service, if it's just the regular maintenance service then the price makes no sense. He should check if they included additional parts in that bill that explain explain it.

More than likely they will charge 3k to look it over and find more stuff to fix. It f you think it includes tires I want some of that smoke. Disk or brake pads? Lol.
My turbo oil change by an actual race mechanic is less than $200 and that includes all checks and factory routine.

I do my own simple maintenance and I find it entertaining (and every time my cars go to the dealer, they always come back worse in some way). I'd rather break something myself than pay someone else to break it

Exactly. I used to change plugs and replace blown air boxes on my old air cooled 911s. Oil was not too bad, lots of places to drain. Learned to do valve adjustments but then got a 996.

I would rethink going to an independent garage. If at some point you decide to sell the car, its better to have service records from a dealer than a garage.

That is many times more than you spent on gas and coffee over that time. I guarantee you receipts from my race mechanic carry more weight than receipts from my local Porsche dealer. Of course for free warranty work I might let them try but I doubt they would do any repairs as well and professionally.

You are quite correct there. Unless that independent 'garage' is as proven as say Manthey Racing before they got acquired by Porsche.
I can claim whatever to the buyer about the service history and such about my car, but even printed records of those won't be on 'Porsche-branded' papers. Doesn't matter who is 'working' on my car, the value of the car immediate dropped just because those service records aren't from a Porsche dealer.
At auctions, with high priced Ferraris and whatnots going across the stage, the service history is a major selling point. Most of those old cars won't be getting serviced at official dealers, but if they are done at well known shops, those are just as good. But the keyword is 'well known'. A hot shot mechanic that's only known within a tiny circle won't even register. It takes years, if not decades, to get a shop up the list.
Sad thing is, a lot of these hot shots are more competent than dealer employed people, but just because of how the system is setup, their work carries much less weight to buyers. I know quite a few Porsche workshops in SoCal and they do excellent jobs, but just the fact that stye are independent and not affiliated with Porsche means their work, no matter how good, carries less weight than a shitty job done at Porsche Beverley Hills or Santa Barbara or whatever.

Update: I retrieved my car from dealer and scheduled service with Porsche trained independent who uses only genuine parts and who has been servicing my 95 993 for more than ten years. Price is one fourth of dealer cost. I am sorry. I like my dealer and the service team, but unless I have a warranty issue, the car is not going back there.

That is ridiculous, I expect the Porsche dealer to be more expensive than an independent Porsche shop, but 4 times the cost is unexcusable. I've done all my maintenance at my Porsche dealership and never had to pay anything even close to that. Have you talked to the dealership's manager? I would "give give him my thoughts"...

Pilot:I had a similar experience last summer. I had to pay almost twice as much for an engine oil and brake fluid service.
I get Whoopsy’s resale point for certain high value collectible cars but there comes a point where the dealers are taking obvious advantage and it may be smart to go elsewhere. Here in KC knowing the car comes with a history of a local race mechanic knowing all about it and providing an efficient way to keep it running would be a plus in most cases. Let’s face it also , the work we are talking about is not difficult. Sadly the local dealer does not have staff anywhere near as experienced.
lastly - I address far more issues since the cost is reasonable. If I had only the dealer to might avoid certain repairs when I actually need them. The dealers simply have service play a vital role in their profits and over time this has been a bit distorted.

Had the same here in switzerland on my Macan - I pulled the car from the PZ and it's now with a independent for half the price. They are ordering also Porsche original parts. He made a good point : the service needs to be done BY Porsche standards not FROM Porsche. He has tons of customers from all sorts of brands facing the same rip off from their garages. I am very happy with their service too !

I reluctantly paid £1700 for my 4 year C2S service including brakes. When it went for it's annual safety check (MOT in the UK) it failed. Because they hadn't tightened the bleed nipple properly.
I won't be back. (and this is probably my very last Porsche)

I don't know if it's the same in other countries but herr the law states that going to an independent shop will not invalidate the warrantee either. I prefer to always go to my Porsche shop myself, for everything, even for tires, but then again, they aren't ripping me off.

It's all in the labour cost. Dealership hourly charge are much higher than independent shops. Parts costs are secondary. Independent places likely isn't paying full price, they get some discounts, but the dealership itself can undercut those, it's up to them how low they want to go without going below their own cost.

Just payed over €1650 to have small service done on my 2016 981 spyder. Oil, and brakepads rear. (they didn't gave a sign they were used too far yet...)
i go to the dealership for 25 years now, first time i feel bad about it...

Yup - I was able to "save" £450 by going to OPC Portsmouth - and was thinking of making a weekend of it - but ran out of time to organise. Must say I was appalled with the work from OPC Hatfield - placed a call into them to discuss the potentially lethal error & they never even returned it!
Seems like fixed price servicing is no longer a thing but one of my man-maths reasons for sticking with Porsche was the servicing costs.
