Will Audi Buy McLaren? & more on the Aston Martin Saga

Just posted a new blog analyzing the potential for a deal between Audi & McLaren plus a brief update on Aston Martin, the Valkyrie, Tobias Moers, and the DBX707.

Headline hp for the DBX707 (quite literally) is staggering. Does that result in 4000 units though - would seem to be a bit of a stretch.

If you can barely sell 3000 units of the base DBX, I just can see the case for 4000 units of a tarted up version.

Agree. Also, better from an IR perspective to under promise and over deliver I should  think, which is the exact opposite approach to what AM has been doing….

The top end of car market isn't as straight forward. For the longest time, Mercedes sells more of the G63 than the 'regular' G550.

The original DBX was 'just another' luxury SUV, but the DBX707 have the 'most powerful' label attached to it. DBX isn't cheap to start off with, for those buyers, what's another could stack of cash?

With Ferrari getting into the SUV game shortly, its going to become even more competitive.

the initial batch will be ridiculously priced....

I believe the current shortage of G63 is going to help Aston move quite a bit of the 707.

The Ferrari SUV will be a bit late to share that pie, but then again it will be a Ferrari and going to be snapped up by Ferrari fans.

Yep...also Lamborghini is waiting to find out how much power the new Ferrari SUV gets...to match it.

Urus Sport and Urus facelift coming soon as well. Bye bye AM DBX707 (btw. my bread and butter Trackhawk has still more power Smiley).

Just last weekend, I checked the performance of the Trackhawk again at slightly over 10000 km (with 2 persons and almost full fuel tank), no launch control: 0-100 kph in 3.6 seconds and 0-160 kph in 8.2 seconds, 1/4 in 11.9 seconds. Stock car but outside temp was favorable (around 1°C). Again: Without launch control. From 0-60 kph, there is no car on this planet to match the performance from a stop, the "pre-loading" boost for the Trackhawk supercharger does it's wonders. I don't have a clue why car magazines but also YouTubers use launch control because launch control for the Trackhawk isn't reliable, the car cannot build enough braking pressure to keep the sudden boost from "ripping" through the brake power.

Does it matters what power Lamborghini version of 'stuff' gets? With Piech dead and gone, Lamborghini is 'just another' brand under the VAG umbrella now.

Porsche may not gets the headline HP numbers but it still clears the Urus with the Cayenne turbo GT. It won't matter if a 'facelifted' version of Urus comes along with headline grabbing numbers, when the chips are down, VAG will have a Porsche version that will put the Lamborghini in it's place.

An oil tanker gets what 150,000 HP? A Honda Civic with 190 or whatever will still drives circles around it.

Wait for the Urus Sport. Smiley

Does Porsche have any competitor for the SVJ? Just saying.

Speaking of Audi and Porsche, look at their EVs, they are basically the same products and it will get worse with the next Macan generation. Smiley

Porsche is living off the 911 and GT cars tradition but let's be honest here, there is no SVJ, there is no SF90 and there is not even a R8 V10 from Porsche. How disappointing is that? One reason I didn't get a Porsche anymore, even if the GT3/RS are definitely great sports cars.

It matters to the people in Sant'Agata.... and  for that matter in Maranello.
