    System Fault at 750 miles!!!

    Only 10 says old, same problem as other members. After a wash, system fault appears.However, it only remains on during acceleration and shuts off for a minute or so upon deceleration. Dealer says parts are on backorder"for some time". Hopefully they will arrive before Y3K. Dealer also said this in no way affects the cars performance. They said to drive as if nothing is wrong. After reading about fellow members having the same problem, it's a wonder why Porsche doesn't address this problem correctly. It certainly is annoying, to say the least.

    My dealer also told me to keep driving and that it will not affect performance, but my vehicle now has an abrupt jerk when manually downshifting to first gear (tiptronic transmission). The transmission problem started concurrently with my system fault message--the dealer said it can no take my car for a week.

    SF seems like part of the 997 initiation. FWIW, I had the same thing and they reset and have never had it again.

    Nicholas, My SFRTW message acts exactly like yours. Usually comes on during acceleration and cruising and sometimes turns off during deceleration. It always comes on when I start the car. I've been told by my dealer that the car is OK to drive with the SFRTW message lit up, but I am taking the car in today to have the computer read and then reset. We'll see what happens next after that.

    My SFRTW message is on constantly--it is currently in the shop; just dropped it off this morning. Hopefully it won't be anything major.

    Thanks guys. Mine will be in the shop sometime next week. In the interim, I keep waiting for something else to go wrong, but all is well. The dealers wife says hers has been "on and off" since Feb.It would stay off until it rained, snowed, or the car was washed. Said she doesn't pay attention to it anymore, just goes about her business.The only problem I see is checking the oil. You can use the PCM lever, but instead of six seconds, it can take up to six minutes.Any suggestions to speed this up would be greatly appreciated. By the way, BMW makes a reset tool which is sold through various retailers. Is there any such gadget available for the 911?

    NJ, As soon as your SFRTW message appears toggle the lever and you'll be able to catch the last 2 secs or so of the engine oil check and then the final reading. Works every time for me. Mine went in today, parts are in and they're supposed to repair it tomorrow. Then I'll wash it, open the hood to clean the channels and we'll see if the new parts fixed the problem (or not).
