    May Day Weekend Meet?

OK, we've spoken about it a couple of times but who's up for it?

Thinking of Sun 1 May (hopefully Dr. P will be able to join us as part of his UK visit).

Dreamcar and myself have already checked out the Malthouse just outside Romsey for the quality of food, beer and serving staff so propose a drive that takes in this hostlry for some refueling and chat plus a drive either side - Sailsbury Plain, New Forest etc.

So, who's in? All cars, old and new, Boxsters, 911s, Cayennes, 944s etc. etc. welcome (If any one has a CGT they want to bring along, fell free!!! ). If I can get an idea of numbers we may well need to book a table at the Malthouse.

For those of you from further afield look at this as a chance to either get the break in period over and done with, or blow the winter cobwebs out of the engine.

    Re: May Day Weekend Meet?

    Rich,
I'd love to make it as my 987 arrives in just over a week, and it'd give me the opportunity to rack up some break-in miles Unfortunately, my best mate is getting married on the 1st and I'm doing best man duties, so I can't make it. I'll be up for the next one (maybe sometime in summer?)

    Re: May Day Weekend Meet?

Car is being built today, so hopefully will be here by the end of the month. Chalk me up for two seats.

    Re: May Day Weekend Meet?

Sounds great... not far form London either. Would love to drive my girl down together with my hubby and meet the real experts for a nice chat while we scrap the dead bugs off the car.

Real experts?!! They're not coming are they - I won't be able to get away with all my bluffing ('Idiots guide to the Boxster ' anyone!!!?)

Ente, the more the merrier obviously!

    Re: May Day Weekend Meet?

1diot's guide to the Boxster? I need the extended special edition of that!

Still awaiting a CGT owner to come on board though

    Re: May Day Weekend Meet?

Well mine was supposed to be built today and they said I might get it by the end of the month, so heres hoping ...

Your kind sympathy with regard to our poverty status noted and appreciated. You can buy the beer.

    Re: May Day Weekend Meet?

OK, going to do some route planning this weekend - so if anyone has their favourite roads in the area (or places to avoid if the grokels are out) then let me know....

Grokel? I thought that was a Devonian term! (For 'holiday maker')

Sorry - I'm a little rusty on the New Forest. Haven't explored much since cycling there in my Uni days.

    Re: May Day Weekend Meet?

    Grockel = Devon
    Emmett = Cornwall
    PITA = Hampshire

Yeah, well, Cornwall IS a bit like Middle Earth...

    Re: May Day Weekend Meet?

We can't meet up in Cornwall! You'd have to be related to the bar maids to be in with a chance and that won't please Dr Phil after his long trip over from bacon land

    Re: May Day Weekend Meet?

Dr Phil isn't coming and surely Cornwall is a mere walk in the park in a 997?

    Roll call

OK guys, need to start getting my a*se in gear and booking table at pub, route planning, arranging the weather etc. etc. Could you please let me know your latest plans if you can deffo attend this, awaiting on something (latest news please ) etc. etc. Also if you can let me know what neck of the woods you're coming from I'll try and make the start/end points as central as possible and easy to find!!

    Re: Roll call

    Count us in Rich.

    Re: Roll call

We're in.. the whole family = dirty girl, husband and I. We'll be coming from Central West London. Cornwall has been on my must-see list for a while, but unfortunately I can't provide any route input as I've never been there. Anywhere will be fine, really.

Thumbs up for planning and a big thanks!

    Re: Roll call

Excellent - although we won't be draggin you out as far as Cornwall this time (unless we get lost!)

So that's 3 cars, 6 bodies so far... keep 'em coming.....

    Re: Roll call

Chalk up two seats for me. Might or might not be able to come on the run as well - depends on weekend visitors. What sort of route were you thinking? I'm guessing just a bimble round the New Forest? If so, how far? And why is everyone obsessed with Cornwall all of a sudden!?
Or course this all hinges on whether I've got a car by then.

    Re: Roll call

Bimble? What's a bimble??! I maxed out my knowledge of yokel terms with 'grokel'!

But New Forest/ Salisbury plain is the best bet for this run - take in some of the sights and culture - and also find some nice narrow village streets to get the engine sounds to echo off of!

Sadly I probably have to say no to coming.
I had to plan differently than putting England on the top of my list.
If the ferry trip back and forth across the Channel is more affordable than the 3-400Pounds I read about and if I have time I would love to join you.
Anyone in here got any idea howw much taking the car across the Channel costs?

Just checked on the P&O website, (but booking in the UK) return crossing Calais - Dover car + 2 adults is 242 euro, assumes 7 day stay in UK 29/4 out, 6/5 return.

    Tim's Travel.

    Re: May Day Weekend Meet?

OK, formulating a plan now, looks like it's going to be a small, but select, group!

Meet up at the services at the start of the A303 (M3 end) - say 12:30 - 1ish hopefully pretty easy to find and central(ish)

Nice cross coutry blat to Romsey, lunch at the Malthouse for 2pm (provisionally booked a table for 6, but more welcome!)

Then a further cross country blast to some nice photogenic location (Salisbury Cathedral springs to mind butopen to suggestions) that perhaps may also include a country pub stop.

Going to drive a few routes this weekend (well still got another 300 miles to finish the breakin) and publish something more detailed but how does that grab folks?

    Re: May Day Weekend Meet?

Sound good to me, Rich. I'd assist but unfortunately I am confined to the mother in laws in Burgess Hill. Worse, I've got to take the Focus

    Re: May Day Weekend Meet?

    Sounds good
