    Brake Dust Repellant Spray

I tried a new product a few days ago by Michelin called brake dust repellant spray (it's made for Michelin by some company in Florida). It's safe for all wheels, and it seems to work very well.....I'd say it reduces dust by about 50-60%.
I know that a polymer sealant probably does the same thing, but this stuff was really easy to use...spray on leave for @ 20 secs. then wipe with a clean cloth.....

It doesn't seem to be available on the West Coast yet, so I ordered online....They also released a tire dressing that gives a rich black to the tire....I'm really impressed, normally, 'branded' cleaning products are pretty cr@ppy.

here's Michelin's info on the stuff
    http://www.petroferm.com/michelin/products.htm

Someone reviewed it on Autopia, these are the pics they posted....which demo it nicely.

    Re: Brake Dust Repellant Spray

Other front wheel after 1 week with repellant

    Re: Brake Dust Repellant Spray

    sweet, thanks for the info.

    Re: Brake Dust Repellant Spray

Let us know how it works over an extended period of time. Does it last and is it really worth the time to apply? Whenever you wash your car you wash your wheels anyway so I'm curious if it is worth it overall.

    Re: Brake Dust Repellant Spray

    Definetely cheaper than the PCCB!

    Re: Brake Dust Repellant Spray

Will it work if I have Pirelli tire?

Re: Brake Dust Repellant Spray - Used it yesterday

After every trip out in the car the wheels were dirty with break dust. I picked up this very product on Friday and applied it Saturday morning. So far I am very pleased. After 300km the wheels are still clean, despite the constant use of the brakes in the twisties over the weekend.

No it will NOT work with Pirelli tires.

    ?????? WTF?

Re: No it will NOT work with Pirelli tires.

it has nothing to do with the tires.

Re: Brake Dust Repellant Spray - Used it yesterday

Here is a picture of the actual products. The yellow bottle is the wheel and tire cleaner, the second the brake dust repellent. Time will tell how long they will last.

They are both easy to use. It is also good to know that they will not hurt the tires or the wheels.

Where did you order it online?

Doesn't look like you can order it from that website.... also thanks for bringing this product to our attention... I think a ton of people have been looking for something like this that really works !! Good job !

Re: Where did you order it online?

The first link was for info purposes
This was the online store I ordered from
    https://host.globalsecureserver.com/x1r.com/store/customer/product.php?productid=16168&cat=0

I'm not sure as to the longevity of the product, but it's so easy to put on (quicker to put on than tire dressing....@ 1 min per wheel).

Re: Where did you order it online?

    jfraser:

Thanks for the heads up on where to get these products. I saw them written up some where recently but could not find a place to buy them. I just ordered a set to try out. Looks and sounds like a big improvement over what I have tried in the past.

My Lexus gets very little brake dust on the front or rear wheels, but then it does not stop quite like my Porsche.

Re: Where did you order it online?

I asked Petroferm which retailers carry this stuff. They said Autozone. Do you which autozone has them?
    Thanks

Brake Dust Repellant Spray sounds like ReJex

Both are polymer sealant. Nice thing about Rejex is it can be used on the entire car. It not only keeps the wheels clean, but reduces bug splats on the windshield, and gives the car a great finish.

    Re: Brake Dust Repellant Spray

I suggest someone check with Porsche before sraying any substance on the wheel and braking mechanism.

If I recall someone complained to Porsche about brake squeal and the first question they asked was whether the person sprayed anything on the wheels other than approved wheel cleaner.

    Re: Brake Dust Repellant Spray

How could Porsche ever prove what you sparyed on the wheels?

    Re: Brake Dust Repellant Spray

next thing they will tell us not to pess the brakepedal at all!!!

    Really funny... but you're right!

Re: No it will NOT work with Pirelli tires.

    LOL...

I believe the dealer mentioned earlier in this thread will sell internationally. Go to http://www.x1r.com/. It has a place for international sales. They even convert to several languages on their site.

    Re: Brake Dust Repellant Spray

Went to AutoZone, but they only had step 1 and 2 which is the cleaner and dressing, step 3 is the dust repellant which they did not have in stock. May be later.

I just send an e-mail to michelin belgium to ask for info..
When i get answers i'll post them here.

    Crazy World!

Nice thought, spraying a non-stick formula onto the brake disks!

Has anybody checked the effect on braking?

Yeah, sure, it probably works on a electrostatic principle which has nothing to do with friction coefficients of the steel (or ceramic).

Still, being satisfied with spraying ANYTHING except rinse water on disks is hard to comprehend.

I read the FAQ's for the product and it said you could also apply it by spraying it onto a cloth. You then apply a light film of the product on the wheel surface. That would eliminate the concern of getting the product on the brake surface.

The other thing I noticed reading their FAQ's is that they suggest you apply the product every time you wash your car. I was hoping you could apply it like a wax and enjoy its benefits for at least a few months.

    Re: Crazy World!

MMD you've got to be joking about sparying wax on the brakes and thinking that it effects it. If the brakes can't over come a few microns of wax, then you're in trouble to begin with.

I use wax to "lubricate" my skis. Why shouldn't it work on brake disks?

    Re: Crazy World!

also went to autozone.. they only had step 1 and 2.. either they arnt carrying it yet.. or are constantly out of stock...
