Waiting with my M3 wondering.

Got a 04 M3, waiting for September when 997S arrives. The 997s test drive wasn't that great and was too short to remember regarding my question.

How does the M3 compare to the 997S in terms of "Wow" factor? When you get spirited on the highway or in passing lanes, the M3 is definitely no slouch. The M3 has 333 hp 262 ftlbs, 3400lbs curb weight.

Performance-wise, "thrill-factor-wise" is the Carerra S going to be a huge difference and in what ways? Can these differences be only appreciated on the track? Thanks for indulging me while my wait starts to slowly drive me nuts.

I had a 2002 M3 prior to my 997s and yes your going to love the step up in delivery, grip, power and better low end torque.
Certainly a wow factor for me. The M3 can be made to look very impressive in particular parts of its rev range but the 997 is a proper sports car (not a coupe) and delivers a smother and more balanced drive. Your going to love the car.
Also, mine to seems to get faster by the week (on 1900 miles now).

I had an M3 from '01 to present, that is , until I took possession of my 997s last Saturday. The M3 was a great car, no doubt about it, but there is no comparison between the two. The 997s is tighter, quicker, more responsive and the "wow factor' is in the driving.I only have 550 miles on the car, so I haven't driven hard to observe the break in period, but if the first few days is any indication of what's to come, the bar has been raised more than a notch.
You made the right decision and I think our fellow board members will agree. " There is no substitute".

I had an M3 too, and the 997 is supremely better. Not that the M3 is a bad car, but the 997 is just a better sports car.

I had an M3 and it was the only car i caught my self crying while i was selling it.It' s better balanced, higher revving and that clever "0-100" differential makes you a sideways hero.I really miss it from my PASM equipped C2S..

M3 gives you more entertainment

911 gives you more satisfaction.

You will love it, I too had an M3 (awesome car, a missile when driven properly). When I purchased my 997, mind you not an S, I was extremely impressed with the overall performance of the car. It suprisingly took me no time to let go of my bias feelings about the M3's superiority over other cars in it's class. Not to take anything away from the M3, it is just that between it and the S, there is no comparison, they are different cars. Especially if you purchase the power upgrade.I can only imagine how my S will thrill me once it arrives.

I already love my car (after 3 months). But i 've regret not ordering -20mm with LSD. I really want to play sideways controling with the throtle..

I had a 2003 M3 before my non-S 997. The 997 is much quicker. Not just from 0-60 but from 85-125. The 997 is also a quieter riding car. M3 was a great car, but the 997 is better in many ways!!!

You should buy a 993 or older 911 to go with your 997 then

I have an 02 M3 Covertible [awaiting my 997 S Cab 2 weeks to delivery] the test drive did not do it for me...but I am lucky to have a friend who owns a porsche [993] and he was nice enough to drive me around a few times and then gave me the wheel thats when i really felt that i made a great choice...

I had an 04 M3 cab with smg and also have a Z8. I have an 05 997s and have to say that while I do love the 997s, I do not find it that much more satisfying than my M3, especially given the price. The only time I drive my 997 is when I need to take my kids somewhere, otherwise I drive the Z8--much more power, better sound (5 litre v8) and, in my experience and imho, a more fun car to drive. Don't get me wrong, I love the 997, but I was expecting to be blown away, I just wasn't and find myself at times missing the M3, which is, dollar for dollar, a much better buy.
