    Re: [2022] Formula 1

This is interesting. Audi is developing an engine separate from that of Porsche.  One wonders how many components are shared, if any, between the engines. https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/audi-separate-engine-porsche-2026/10358035/

    Re: [2022] Formula 1

Audi will be making a 'standard' engine for F1. So it may not be just Sauber be using it.

Porsche on the other hand will have basically the Red Bull, and maybe Alpha Tauri as their platform. Newey could have asked for special configuration from the engine side to fit his aero concept. The Porsche engine is basically a custom one for the Red Bulls.

Last I heard, the Porsche IPO was still being planned. That moves Audi back to a dominate position within the Volkswagen Group hierarchy.

    It's near!

    https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-08-26/porsche-lines-up-ipo-demand-at-up-to-85-billion-valuation?srnd=premium-europe

Porsche is being valued like Ferrari, and not Ford or VW It's more than just another car company. If one counts in the Porsche Design stuff, they are already very diversified, with fashion, watches, clothing shoes and home products in the mix. Basically a luxury goods company that also make cars.

    Re: [2022] Formula 1

You’re missing the point about Porsche’s pre-market pricing.  Whilst the goal of the Porsche IPO is to increase transparency and unlock value within the Volkswagen Group by essentially creating a tracking stock, the current valuation of Volkswagen is grossly undervaluing the Volkswagen brands based on that Porsche indicated pricing.  There’s no way the rest of the plebeian group is worth a negative two billion.  The only platforms with Porsche that is uniquely Porsche is the MSB platform and the outgoing Cayman/Boxster platform.  These two platforms represent an increasingly smaller part of Porsche’s revenue, and profit, streams. Everything else is shared with its less illustrative sisters.

    Re: [2022] Formula 1

I didn't. This is no different than when Fiat breaks out Ferrari as a separate listing.

VAG as a whole was valued pretty much like any other car company. With Porsche inside as just another cog.

But with Porsche coming out as a separate listing, investors suddenly wanted to value it separately at a much higher multiplier, a la Ferrari. Which is the whole point of VAG wanted to spin it out in the first place, to copy Fiat/Ferrari.

Porsche is still the same company before and after. Weird investor mentality, but it is what it is. That same market also valued TSLA at a unreal multiplier too. I digress.

To say the rest of the VAG is worth a negative number just because Porsche suddenly got a much higher multiplier is a misused of numbers. It doesn't work that way, it's not like the day the Porsche listing go live, the VAG listing will suddenly go negative.

I don't have the exactly percentage of the float and how much VAG will retain ownership of Porsche stock, also can't be bothered to go find, but I will not be surprised the day the Porsche listing go live the VAG listing will also go up in price to reflect the higher multiplier of Porsche.

What if the VAG listing gained an extra 2 billion or 40 billion valuation the day Porsche listing go live? Say Porsche was supposed to be a 20 billion part of VAG, but it because a 80 billion company overnight once listed and VAG retained 50% ownership, that 10 billion worth of Porsche suddenly becomes 40 billion. Can I use the same logic saying VAG without Porsche inside is worth more than with it inside? The likes of Audi Seat etc is suddenly worth 30 billion more without Porsche?

    Re: [2022] Formula 1

Those Red Bulls, they are so fast, still the fastest cars this year.

Ferrari screwed it up a bit again. Putting new tires on Leclerc for towing duty, wasted another set of tires. At least in the end they timed the tow perfectly to get Leclerc in front of Sainz. But moot point as Sainz didn't do a quick lap.

Let's see what Ferrari brings to the track tomorrow. Will they find something new to fuck it up again?

Verstapppen for sure will be on the podium, and if Perez is leading when he caught up, definitely a position swap.

Odd number slots are on the inside going into turn 1, wonder if Sainz, Alonso will go argy bargy and shove Perez and Hamilton towards the gravel pit to force them to back off at the start.

I recall reading that Red Bull and Ferrari were going to lose time because of that new technical directive on floppy planks.  Instead, after touting improvements, it seems like Mercedes lost time.

Yeah, some misguided people thinks the new directive has nothing to do with safety but everything to do to help Mercedes.

    How wrong they are.

It’s really very bad to see how both Merc struggle! They’re not able to bring the tyres up in the right temperature window, I can’t understand how this super-dupper multiple-WC team isn’t able to “rebuild this sh**tty car”? mail

On the other hand the flying dutchman is outperforming the whole competition, chapeaux!

    Re: [2022] Formula 1

Wishful thinking by other teams that it would hurt Red Bull.  They have the best aero solution full stop.  Best sidepod design balancing downforce and drag, most advanced floor design, and even best lower rear wings near the diffuser exit design.  Unlike other teams their lower rear wings are stacked and can even remove one set for low downforce tracks.  Whatever they are paying Newey isn’t enough.

Helps that Verstappen is running a brand new fresh out of the box engine, not unlike Hamilton in Brazil last year.

Leclerc in the Ferrari is also running a fresh engine, but he isn't even close, that tells us how superior the Red Bull car is over anything else. Not unlike say the 2014-2016 Mercedes. Rocket ship.

It's what happens when he drives the fastest car on grid. It's like men against boys on the straights, he has to have at least 15 if not 20km/hr advantage over any car on grid. Without DRS himself.

    Re: [2022] Formula 1

Ferrari pit wall really has lost it all, they have absolutely no confidence anymore in their 'analysis'. Long conversation with Leclerc on tire preference? Come on. Do they not trust their computer predictions? Well they really don't

Leclerc also didn't do himself any favour by speeding down pit lane for the last pitstop and got himself a penalty. Not to mention the bad luck of having a wiser tear off stuck in his brake duct so early and forced him to pit.

Bravo to Hamilton. Not many, if at all, for all the drivers currently on the grid, will admit their own mistake on a racing incident at the start of the race with Alonso. He simply said it straight up it's all on him for not realizing Alonso was still in his blind spot after his pass.

That Mercedes car, wow, what an enigma. Who would have thought Russell could do what he did racing against the Ferraris? Catching, passing Ferraris? After qualifying on Saturday, no one would have think that's possible. The car aren't putting enough to the tires to fire them up when cold or in short runs like in qualifying, but that turned into an advantage for them under racing condition and preserving tires.

Alpha Tauri magically placed their 2 cars into the pits for the start, saving Verstappen 2 less passes on track. Isn't it wonderful to have 2 teams on the grid and 4 drivers to command? Unofficially of course. Christian and Helmut are too saintly to do such a thing. They can't do nothing wrong in the eyes of some people. Guess it really is time for Gasly to look for greener pasture.
