997 (with Options) OR 997S stock?

Okey i would appreciate your input here concerning the following dilemma

Which of the two you would choose?

Choose between a base Carrera with:

    1-Whatever metallic color you like
    2-Sports Chrono
    3-Sunroof
    4-BOSE sound system
    5-Sports Seats
    6-P.A.S.M

    or a Carrera S in:

    1-Non Metallic color
    2-Sports Chrono

I choose the first one and i start to have second thought about the quality of my choice.
So i would appreciate your input, either in reply post or by voting

    IMPORTANT:
IN BOTH MODELS YOU COULD ADD ANY RETROFITS YOU LIKE-AFTER PURCHASE

    Thank you

Re: 997 (with Options) OR 997S stock?

    I'd pick the S if the non-S doesn't have 19-in wheels. Sorry.

Re: 997 (with Options) OR 997S stock?

    Tony 19" could be retrofitted

Re: 997 (with Options) OR 997S stock?

Too late, I already voted. Can I vote twice?

Re: 997 (with Options) OR 997S stock?

    HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Re: 997 (with Options) OR 997S stock?

I'd take a standard Boxster with EVERY factory option, and a special-order Aardvark-hide interior with deviating Buffalo-fur carpets!!!!

Re: 997 (with Options) OR 997S stock?

That actually was my plan after the Boxster S, but I screwed up and test drove the 997S and 997!

Re: 997 (with Options) OR 997S stock?

I just posted above about being a new 997 owner. My advice would be to test drive both cars. My car came optioned with 19s and the xenons, two features that come standard on the S. Beyond that for the xtra 10k, you get 30 more horsepower, a sport steering wheel and the suspension geometry is a bit different(might have left something out here).

The road tests I have seen show a .2 tick faster time on the S from 0 to 60. If that fact and the few xtras you get are worth it to you for 10k, buy the S. Personaly I'd option the base model, it's a super car in its own right. MA

Re: 997 (with Options) OR 997S stock?

0-60 in cars like these is like 0-5 meters for an Olympic sprinter.... just barely getting rolling out of the hole. The gap widens considerably more in the 1/4 mile, and there's a 11-13 second difference around the Nurburgring circuit. But it's been discussed ad-nauseaum on here. Both cars are worth the money, it all depends on your priorities and finances. We try not to argue about it too much, but all the time we're getting lambasted with "which is better?" threads.

Re: 997 (with Options) OR 997S stock?

HAHA 69bossnine i start to think that all threads in this forum will be in the future

    997 vs 997S

Re: 997 (with Options) OR 997S stock?

Good points 69. The metric on the San Diego freeways is 0-80, the speed that most of the freeways move at(when they're actually moving of course) in the two left lanes. MA

Re: 997 (with Options) OR 997S stock?

MEA congrads on your new car same color as mine

    could you post some pics??

I would appreciate if you posted one pic(full close up) of the front wheel and one of the rear.
I wnat to see these 19" in conjuction with the small black brakes

Re: 997 (with Options) OR 997S stock?

Depends on how long you hope to keep the car. If it is for the long term get the S. It appears that all future performance options/mods will be based on the 3.8 litre platform. If it is for a 2-3 year period get the base model, trick it out with the extra cash, then trade up in a few years.

Re: 997 (with Options) OR 997S stock?

Is it still true that with the S version you get the pleasure of paying turbo insurance prices (in the States)?

Re: 997 (with Options) OR 997S stock?

My insurance on my "S" is roughly $1100/year, 300/500/300, if my memory is clicking on all cylinders. About the same as what I pay for the wife's Lincoln Navigator a.k.a. SS Minnow. I'm 37.

Re: 997 (with Options) OR 997S stock?

come on now you will say insurance is an argument to go for base model?

Re: 997 (with Options) OR 997S stock?

    well things are getting clear!

Re: 997 (with Options) OR 997S stock?

Thank you. I don't own a digital camera so I wont be able to post any pictures. I had the red calipers on the Boxster S I owned. First impressions.....I like the black calipers better on this particular car, it sets the colored wheel crests off a bit more and gives the car a more understated appearance in profile. I am really looking forward to changing the center console out for a carbon fiber one, should jazz up the interior. Add a sport shifter for shorter throws and a Porsche design sun visor(about 60 bucks at my dealership, covered mostly by the 50$ gift card they gave me) and I'll be set. My wife and I are driving up to Vegas next weekend for our 21st, be nice to roll up to the Four Seasons in my new sled. ( : MA

Re: 997 (with Options) OR 997S stock?

MEA what is the porsche design sun visor?

check my review on short shift
i m also looking for carbon interior. gear know and handbrake first

Re: 997 (with Options) OR 997S stock?

    Dilinger,

Yours is a question I face right now, with the third option of just keeping my 996 Targa. I am opting for the C2S, only I'm getting metalic paint and sport chrono as the only options.

When I drove a 997 C2, I could not appreciate any difference from my 996 C2. The 997 C2S was definitely a step up, and I can't resist that temptation.

The worrying aspect about all this (which is my wife's main concern) is when, if ever, will it all end?

Re: 997 (with Options) OR 997S stock?

The stock 997S is a base 997 with options and then some more options you can't even get on the 997... easy choice.

Re: 997 (with Options) OR 997S stock?

all options of the S you can get in the base Carlos,at least electronic options excpept mechanical.
Moreover the S has some extras but not the ones someone would prefer

SB, what is your concern? What is it that you want to end?
Temptation? Well that is what keeps the world rolling!

Re: 997 (with Options) OR 997S stock?

D, here's that picture you wanted. I finally remembered.

Can you get the 355HP 3.8l engine and the TT brakes on the base997?

Re: 997 (with Options) OR 997S stock?

thanx a lot Holm i trust its the rear wheel!

do you have any pic straight forward not from upper corner?

Re: 997 (with Options) OR 997S stock?

Dilinger, you're killing me! I'll get some later.

Here's another picture I took today while taking a detour through Washington, DC. The cherry blossom trees are just past their peak.

Re: 997 (with Options) OR 997S stock?

    very beautiful Holm!!

In Greece its late now 01:00 am

wonderful landscape..I ll send you some by the sea at the weekend

I m just concerned that if i put 19" the disc brakes will look small

    and if i loose performance

Re: 997 (with Options) OR 997S stock?

If you take into account, that from the original 10k price difference between 997 and 997S remain only about 5.8k, if you subtract PASM, 19" wheels, BiXenon and sport steering wheel and that you'll get an extra 30 hp as well as the turbo brakes for that 5.8k, the choice is clear: 997S

(makes the rumoured 12k for the powerkit look even more exagerated BTW )

Re: 997 (with Options) OR 997S stock?

    why its only 5.8k ?

    Correct me if I'm wrong:
    price difference 997 vs. 997S: appr. 10k

options included in the 997S, for which you have to pay extra in the 997:
    19" Carrera S rims - 1500
    BiXenon - 1000
    PASM - 1500
    sport steering wheel - 200

That's altogether 4200, 10000 minus 4200 is 5800 real price difference for turbo brakes, 3.8l, 30 hp and 30 Nm more.
