    997 Carrera S 20 mm Option In-Car Driving Videos - Repost

Repost for those who missed these two videos.
They actually show how stable the car is and how fast it can be. Also listen to the nice engine sound at higher rev. Videos are Windows Media Files.
Each video is almost 10 MB in size!

Please DO NOT click on the video files, just right-click on the files and download/save them to your local HDD. Thank you!

Car Magazine had an article featuring the 997 Cab. The writer mentioned the "race" suspension and stated it was debateable whether it is a good feature for a road car. Felt it was too rigid leading to a jarring ride. He thought it was good for track purposes.

Had some issues with the Cab but overall liked the car. Also stated Cab S compared to the regular Cab is a waste of money. His finding were very similar to Paul Freres the notoriously unabashedly pro Porsche car reviewer.

BTW, the British pro Porsche magazine had another article which was headlined "Why The AM V8 Vantage Will Pulverise Porsche".

Thanks for the vids. Is that a manual gear change I can hear between the engine sounds ?

Did you change gear at top of rev range ?

Was your foot to the floor ?

    Re: 997 Carrera S 20 mm Option In-Car Driving Videos - Repos

thanks for the videos, that was you right?

even if that is true (which i doubt), the chronic tranny problemed, sparce service network aston martin's entire annual world production is 5k cars (including both the DB9 and AMV8) which resprents a hair on the a## of global 911 production. personally, i'd much prefer the AMV8 to a 911 if they are dependable. but, it sure isn't going to hurt 911 sales even if 100% of AMV8 buyers were 911 prospects.

    Re: 997 Carrera S 20 mm Option In-Car Driving Videos - Repos

Very smooth ride over there RC! The car seems to display a very healthy handling and braking indeed . Should be even nicer with PSE(to come soon I guess....).

    Re: 997 Carrera S 20 mm Option In-Car Driving Videos - Repost

    THANKS RC !

    CLEAN THE BUGS RC !!!

How/where did you mount the camera? I have a small bullet camera that I make mountain bike videos with and would like to try it out in my car....

Actually, i have heard that the PASM equiped cars with the setting on SPORT, is a harder setting than the -20mm setup that is not PASM.

Let me tell you the harshness of the 997 with pasm on sport, isnt all that bad really, so if the -20mm is actually a bit softer than it could easily be a comfortable road car!

atleast thats my opinion, i guess it depends on how cushy you like you ride

Can anyone confirm this? If this is true, the real decision for me is between computer controlled damping vs lim slip diff.

    Re: 997 Carrera S 20 mm Option In-Car Driving Videos - Repos

I have to get a video camera. I wish I could show all of you the twists and turns south of my house in the forest.

    Re: 997 Carrera S 20 mm Option In-Car Driving Videos - Repos

Very cool clips RC . The car sounds awesome.

    Re: 997 Carrera S 20 mm Option In-Car Driving Videos - Repos

Yes very cool videos, thanks RC!!

    Re: 997 Carrera S 20 mm Option In-Car Driving Videos - Repos

What is also amazing about this video is the car actually looks like it accelerates and slows down at the same pace as the official promotional web video clips on the 997S... and I thought those were speeded up!

    I like :-)

You won't believe it, the camera used is the Canon S1 IS...right, a digital camera, not a video camera.
This camera is 3 MP only but has a built-in image stabilizer which works very well. And furthermore: the high quality video mode produces excellent movies with excellent sound for such a tiny camera. Highly recommendable.
A HAMA 4040 window mount has been used too, it is very stable and works great.

A few more comments regarding those videos: they show the incredible handling capability and stability of the 997 Carrera S with 20 mm chassis. It is also worth mentioning that the shifting has been done with the standard shifter, not the short shifter. And the two times you hear a little "gap" in acceleration, this is when the PSM jumped in despite the activated chrono sport mode.

And a last word regarding these videos: the driver knew what he is doing and he knows the streets, traffic density, possible "surprises", etc. in these videos very well.
Always bare in mind that a public street is not the best location for shooting such videos.

    Re: 997 Carrera S 20 mm Option In-Car Driving Videos - Repos

According to Porsche the Sports suspesion has shorter and firmer springs. In addition you get the mechanically locking rear differential which is very nice
