    top speed?

what is the top speed you can do with your Cayenne?

    Re: top speed?

I've been to 138 mph once and it could have gone a little faster, but not much. It was running out of breath. I think top speed for my Cayenne is 140-145 mph. I have had it to the 130-135 mph range several times, for extended periods on some occasions, and it reaches that range pretty easily.

    Re: top speed?

I hit 135 mph but ran out of road and nerves. :-), It does get there very quickly.

282 kph on the speedo, I once saw 287 on another Cayenne Turbo. But may I ask a stupid question: WHAT Cayenne do you mean (V6, S or Turbo) and WHY???

    Re: top speed?

mine is a Cayenne S six speed manual, i run many time 255 KM/H on the clock, it goes quickly to 240 and it take 1 km to the top at 5900 RPM in six

255 kph on the speedo should be around REAL 240-242 kph, this is actually what the Cayenne S always achieves.

    Re: top speed?

    Hi,
    Wow, a 5% discount??
Is the speedo not an accurate reflection of the actual speed? What would be the maximum speed programmed and achievable for the respective Cayenne V6, S and Turbo?

    Re: top speed?

    cayenne s 4.5

max speed 259km/h (in fifth march)

    Re: top speed?

    elamadonna!
    mine 249 ....

    Re: top speed?

my Cay S 265km/h,..but is mine..and for this is special

    Re: top speed?

We did GPS measuring with two Cayenne S and the best result was indeed 242 kph, not one kph more.
The best we saw on the Turbo (mine and another one) were REAL 269 kph. These results aren't too accurate, not because of the GPS but because of possible winds and the fact that the streets sometimes are going a little bit up or down. Fact is: all Porsche models we tested so far have a speedo error of around 13-15 kph at top speed, a GT3 even had an error of 19(!) kph. The GPS we're using is a Magellan Roadmate 700, it is pretty accurate(error of around max. 2 kph) and very easy to handle with.

No, due to legal reasons the displayed speed is greater than the actual speed. E.g., in the EU a speedo must fulfill direction 75/443/EWG. That direction specifies an upper and a lower limit of the displayed speed compared to the actual speed:
    0 <= v1 - v2 <= v2/10 + 4 kph, v1 = displayed speed, v2 = actual speed
So, for a car like the Cayenne S the speedo is allowed to display 242 - 270 kph at actual top speed 242 kph. In order to be compliant with that rule car manufacturers often use at least a 3% offset to the actual speed for the displayed speed. The offset is programmable and country dependent.

Is this just for high speeds? Surely it must be very accurate at "normal" speeds, or we would always get caught by radar guns? ie 70 mph on UK motorways

?? according to the formula the displayed speed is equal or greater than the actual speed. If you drive 70mph according to the speedo you actually drive 61-70mph! So you never get a problem.

thanks! It was too early in the morning for maths!

    Re: top speed?

I understand from the manufacturer's spec that the max speed limited by ECU for the Cayenne V6 is 214km/h(~132mph) but just over the last weekend, I have managed to attain 222km/h (~138mph). Could it be attributed to the cat by-pass pipe and the BMC air filter from Fabspeed?

    Re: top speed?

Were your readings from the instrument cluster in the vehicle? If so there is a certain amount of overestimation at the top end for many cars, including Porsche. Search the boards for a recent thread on this issue. A GPS based system will give accurate results. And of course you would need before and after data to confirm that your modifications made the difference, if any exists.

    Re: top speed?

Yes, the readings were taken off the Digital readouts from the speedometer. The car is less than a month old with just over 1,000km on the clock. I have not tried attempting the high speed run before the mods but nevertheless I love the deep throatty wabble throughout the entire rev range as a result of the pipe mod.

    Re: top speed?

Well if you like the way it sounds, that's all the justification you need in my opinion! It's funny how important the sound of a car can be...almost as much as color or wheel choice.

    Re: top speed?

At least the sound differentiates the Porsche apart from other compatible regular SUVs such as the Volvo XC90, VW Toureg, BMW X5, etc.

IMHO, the different choice of color, wheels, exhaust note, accessory options do bring out the character of the ride and its owner too.
    Cheers
