I wouldn't be too sure about it and even if so, the different would be hardly noticeable. We had a CLS 55 AMG for a few hours and it is an impressive looking car. Performance didn't seem to be much difference to the E55 and it definetely didn't feel sportier. But the interesting part is: for most potential customers in Germany, the CLS seems to be too flashy, so they prefer the E-class instead. As far as I heard, there are substantial rebates available on CLS models over here in Germany, even worse with the E-class. It never has been better times to buy a Mercedes over here if somebody wants to. The used car market is also very very crowded and lots of nice cars are available at highly interesting prices.

Specs? A long time ago, I gave up on specs.
Real life driving is what counts and in my opinion, there isn't much difference in performance between the E55 and CLS55.BTW: did you see the latest IWC special edition of the CLS? Looks great.

both do 0-60 in 4.5. One isn't faster than the other. It's all on the viewers point of view.

Yep- when I drove the new E55 (mine is an old naturally aspirated one), I punched the salesman in the face because he quoted 4.5 and the car was quicker and I was pissed at him for dissin' the brand, feel what I'm sayin'?
J/K man, look, I actually didn't trade my '01 in for an '04 because the new one didn't feel quicker until I was breaking the speed limit. If I didn't own an E55, I'd buy a new one, but the old one is still a great car. Splitting hairs on 0-60 times isn't useful- an old Triumph TR-6 gets 0-60 in about 10 seconds, but it is a very enjoyable car to drive. Enjoyment- that's why we buy expensive cars, right? For bragging rights, it would be cheaper to drop a worked, turbo'd, NOS'd V10 into a VW Golf.

Having seen the CLS 55 next to my dads E55, i have to say that the CLS looks quite amazing.. however, I think i prefer the looks of the E as it looks less catchy.. but thats just my opinion.. and who i am to jude these wonderful cars.. The CLS looks awesome tho

The CLS does have a lower centre of gravity, slightly differnet track, wheel and suspension set up and is supposed to be a little quicker round the ring.
In the real world the CLS would probably be quicker as you would pick up better looking chicks who are likely to be skinner, whereas with the E55 you would be stuck with the fatter plumpers adding extra weight and slowing your car down, but as compensation you can get three plump chicks in the back of the E55 whereas the CLS guy can only fit two
