I think they are the newer ones from 992 GT3, since there is so little room between 20" wheel and caliper (I think they will eventually have the dimpled rotors - GT3 rotors looked like this before delivery also).

    17/11/2021

The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS is the new flagship model in the 718 family – an uncomp romising driver’s car designed to impress with its lightweight construction, extremely agile chassis set-up, sophisticated aerodynamics and unique soundtrack.

When 500 PS (368 kW; 718 Cayman GT4 RS: fuel consumption combined (WLTP) 13.2 l/100 km, CO₂ emissions combined (WLTP) 299 g/km, fuel consumption combined (NEDC) 12.3 l/100 km, CO₂ emissions combined (NEDC) 281 g/km) from a high-revving mid-mounted engine meets a purist 1,415 kg kerb weight, it is time for the term ‘driving pleasure‘ to be redefined: whether it is being driven on narrow, winding mountain roads or closed race tracks, the 718 Cayman GT4 RS is king of the compact mid-engined range. On the Nürburgring Nordschleife, it outperforms its sibling, the 718 Cayman GT4, by more than 23 seconds.

Sports car designed for maximum driving pleasure

The naturally aspirated flat-six engine, familiar from the 911 GT3 Cup racing car and the 911 GT3 series production model, forms the centrepiece of a sports car that has been designed for maximum driving pleasure. The engine revs as high as 9,000 rpm. Compared to the 718 Cayman GT4, the 718 Cayman GT4 RS has an extra 80 PS (59 kW; 718 Cayman GT4: fuel consumption combined (WLTP) 11.1 –10.7 l/100 km, CO₂ emissions combined (WLTP) 251 – 242 g/km, fuel consumption combined (NEDC) 10.9 – 10.2 l/100 km, CO₂ emissions combined (NEDC) 249 – 232 g/km), resulting in a weight-to-power ratio of 2.83 kg/PS. Maximum torque has been increased from 430 to 450 Nm.

Among the striking features of the new, top-of-the-range 718 are the process air intakes behind the driver and passenger windows. The 718 Cayman normally has small side windows here. The new air intakes improve both the intake airflow and, at the same time, create a thrilling intake noise right next to the occupants' ears. The characteristic air intakes in front of the rear wheels have been retained and are used for engine cooling.

Like every modern RS model, the new 718 GT4 RS is exclusively available with the Porsche dual clutch transmission (PDK). This gearbox shifts through its seven gears at lightning speed and guarantees maximum performance. The gearshift paddles allow drivers to keep their hands on the steering wheel even when changing gear manually. Alternatively, they can use the re-designed selector lever on the centre console.

The sports low-ratio PDK underpins the incredible acceleration of this mid-engined sports car. The 718 Cayman GT4 RS sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds (GT4 with PDK: 3.9 seconds) and has a top speed of 315 km/h (GT4 with PDK: 302 km/h), which it reaches in seventh gear.

In typical RS style, lightweight construction is a defining element of the new 718 Cayman GT4 RS design. The two-seater weighs only 1,415 kilograms, with a full fuel tank and without a driver as defined by the DIN standard, which is 35 kg less than a PDK-equipped 718 GT4. This weight reduction is achieved thanks to the use of carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) for components such as the bonnet and front wings. Lightweight carpets also save weight, as does reducing the amount of insulation material. The rear window is made of lightweight glass. Lightweight door panels with textile opening loops and nets on the storage compartments complete the quest to eliminate every superfluous gram.

Highly efficient: the fixed rear wing with a swan-neck attachment

The new fixed rear wing, its swan-neck attachment and aluminium wing supports, are a distinctive element of the exterior design. This highly efficient wing principle is derived from the Porsche 911 RSR GT racing car and was first adopted in a Porsche series production car with the 911 GT3. In combination with the 30-millimetre-lower ride height compared to the 718 Cayman, the eye-catching vents on the front wheel arches, the aerodynamically optimised underbody panelling with connected rear diffuser, the multi-adjustable front diffuser and the new front spoiler lip with flow-around side blades, in the Performance mode reserved for use on race tracks the GT4 RS generates approximately 25 per cent more downforce than the GT4.

Modifications to the chassis also contribute to its greater performance. Ball joints bind the chassis tightly to the body to deliver even more precise and direct handling. The adjustable, circuit-ready chassis has an RS-specific shock absorber set-up, as well as modified spring and anti-roll bar rates.

The optional Weissach package takes the dynamic design of the GT4 RS even further. The front luggage-compartment lid, process air intakes, cooling air intakes, airbox cover, exterior mirror upper trims and rear wing have a carbon-weave finish. The titanium tailpipes look similar to the exhaust system on the Porsche 935. The fitted roll cage at the rear is also made of titanium. The upper section of the dashboard is upholstered in Race-Tex material and a large Porsche logo is integrated into the rear window. With the Weissach package 20-inch forged magnesium wheels can be ordered at additional cost instead of the 20-inch forged aluminium wheels.

All of these enhancements compared to the 718 Cayman GT4 make the GT4 RS the most uncompromising and sharpest member of the 718 family. This is particularly evident on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. During the final phase of set-up adjustments, Porsche brand ambassador Jörg Bergmeister lapped the 20.832-kilometre track in 7:09.300 minutes. The GT4 RS conquered the shorter 20.6 km version, which previously served as the benchmark, in 7:04.511 minutes – 23.6 seconds faster than the 718 Cayman GT4.

The most uncompromising and sharpest member of the 718 family

The unique Porsche Design Chronograph 718 Cayman GT4 RS, created by Porsche Design exclusively for buyers of the vehicle, is as dynamic as its four-wheeled counterpart. The watch also benefits from a lightweight design concept with high-performance features based on the robust, high-tech characteristics of titanium. Its winding rotor is modelled on the sports car’s rims and can be specified in different colours, just like the car.

The new Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS is celebrating its world premiere at the Los Angeles Auto Show and can now be ordered at a base price of 141,338 euros (including 19 per cent VAT). Delivery begins in December. In addition, the GT4 RS is available with the optional Weissach package to further enhance its aerodynamics. The 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport racing version is also celebrating its premiere in Los Angeles, and it will be launched in several national and international racing series starting in 2022.

Such a pleasant surprise, Porsche didn't short change the 718 and gave it the full fat GT3 engine! I wasn't expecting that.up until yesterday I still believe it would have been a tuned up version of the GT4 4.0L fast 6.

So everything make sense now from 3 years ago at Weissach. The 9k GT3 tech was there because there is actually an actual GT3 engine in it.

And on the race track side, the new GT4RS CS is going to be a great weapon against other GT4 class cars. Others detuned a GT3 class car to be a GT4 class, and Porsche put in GT3 stuff into their GT4 car now.

Maybe the 992 GT3 is a fraction faster, but for aural excitement, GT3 got nothing on the GT4RS. The engine is literally 12 inches behind your ears, UNCOVERED!

Size wise it's is smaller, with a mid engine layout it is much more nimble than the rear engine 911.

Did I mention it is also cheaper than the GT3?

"Behold: the new 493bhp Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS"

Before the mid-engined Porsche platform goes electric, it's time for a 'big party'

    (17 Nov 2021)

Ever wondered what would happen if you stuffed the stupendous 4.0-litre, naturally-aspirated, flat-six engine from the rear-engined 911 GT3, capable of revving to 9,000rpm, into the mid-engined Cayman? Well, wonder no more, because Porsche’s GT department has let its hair down and built the car of our fever dreams. This is the new Cayman GT4 RS, and it might be the wildest RS model to date.

“The future of the mid-engined platform might have to do a lot with electricity. And so it's high time to have a big party on the 718 platform. This car is a live concert on four wheels, it's such an entertainer and it was such a fun project to make. It’s something that came from our heart and we’ve wanted to do it for a long time.” That’s Andreas Preuninger, the GT division boss and driving force behind the project.

That engine produces 493bhp (79bhp more than the standard GT4), while torque gets a slight bump to 332lb ft and “like every modern RS” it’s PDK-only, no manual gearbox here. Gutted. Still, 0-62mph takes a mere 3.4 seconds (a GT4 with PDK takes 3.9) and the top speed is 195mph. Perhaps more impressive is the Nürburgring lap time of 7mins 4.511sec, over 23 seconds quicker than the standard GT4, and just six seconds slower than a 911 GT3. That was done with pro driver Jorg Bergmeister at the wheel, and on a set of super sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 Rs, which are available as an option.

Clearly you don’t make those sorts of gains by skipping leg day, so the GT4 RS has been through a strict weight-saving regime. Lighter, thinner glass for the rear screen, carbon-fibre reinforced plastic for the bonnet and front wings, lightweight carpets, fabric door pulls, less insulation… it all adds up to a kerb-weight of 1,415kg. That’s 35kg less than a PDK-equipped GT4 and 20kg less than a PDK GT3.

Manually tweak the huge swan-neck rear spoiler and the adjustable front diffuser into their most aggressive positions and there’s 25 per cent more downforce than you get in a GT4. Vents in the top of the wheel arch, an extended front splitter and fettled underbody aero also contribute to keeping you stuck to the road. Then there’s RS-specific stiffer damper set up, and its own bespoke spring and anti-roll bar rates. Porsche’s also used ball joints to keep the chassis tight to the body, making sure the car is as stiff as possible. Naca ducts in the bonnet feed air directly to the brakes.

In customary RS fashion, there’s an optional Weissach pack that’s largely cosmetic. Visual clues you ticked the Weissach box include logos on the headrests and exposed carbon weave on the bonnet (a body-matched stripe is available), induction air ducts, cooling air intakes, airbox cover, mirror trims and rear wing. On top of that you get a titanium exhaust system with tips inspired by the retro-tastic 935, titanium roll cage and the opportunity of ordering 20-inch forged magnesium wheels over the standard 20-inch forged aluminium rims.

We suspect the only change you’ll care about though, should you get the chance to drive a GT4 RS, are the new induction air intakes where the rear quarter windows are usually found. These create “an emotive induction sound right next to the occupants' ears", which is Porsche for “will make the car sound utterly bananas on the inside".

Preuninger again: “The GT3 sound is dominated by the exhaust. This one's dominated by the intake, which gives a completely new atmosphere and makes the driving acoustics completely different. We are matching all the worldwide criteria for external noise, but in the interior, this is such an entertainer. It's like, Robbie Williams, let me entertain you. This is what this car is about.” Dodgy boy-band references to one side, you had us at ‘induction sound’.

Just one final question hangs heavy in the air. At £108,370 the GT4 RS is only £15k cheaper than the GT3. It’s also 20kg lighter, only six secs slower around the ‘Ring, has an identical 0-62mph time and has the same number of seats with a roll cage in the back. So what’s the fundamental difference that creates room for both in the GT range?

“The GT3 always has huge competition around it. Everybody's trying to match the GT3’s status, its value package and its performance on the track. So we are eager to give the GT3 everything we can to let it stay on pole position, like the double wishbone front axle, the rear-wheel steering. It has all these gizmos that makes the car really fast,” Preuninger explains.

“On the GT4 RS we didn't look too much into super aero and eking out the last 10th of a second on the track. We tried to find the perfect compromise between road and track driving, and I think we did because from an emotional point of view, it’s a completely different experience to a GT3.”

First UK deliveries should begin in Spring next year, around the same time as we’ll get to drive one. And the want is strong. What do you reckon internet – one of these and £15k in your pocket or a 911 GT3?

My wife named the Turbo x- lax for obvious reasons related to my driving.  Her little Honda HRV is Hercules and the Tesla is the first one I named - Ayrton.
I doubt my dealer will have any available it I might as well get on another 20 year list.

    Re: GT4RS

So, ... all the hard-core 911 GT3 people in this forum will now turn to the "darkside" / "girlie porsche" / "you had not had the money to go for a 911" / "cayman" ... ? ... smiley
