    Whoopsy:

    I‘m a huge fan of Lewis as he was since day one he arrived @formula 1 a great driver to watch.

    CL, LN, GR are great promises for the future but MV is IMHO not that good as many people claimed over the years.

    Look at Dany Ricciardo, he could easily keep up with him whilst the quick

    Aussie had many more issues to level Carlos Sainz and especially Lando.

    This year Lewis & Merc are really having a hard time with F1 management as their judgement of penalties varies a lot.

    BTW Merc was much fast in sector 1 & 3 but sector 2 was always (already in the past) RedBull territory, which is based due to the car design of each manufacturer.

    therefore no surprise that Lewis could easily overtake Max (as long as he didn’t drive him off track or waving on the straights)

    May I refer you to this clip.

    There is no doubt about Max's ability. Not many on the grid can save that slide.

    But Max for some reason doesn't trust his own ability and always falls back to driving dirty.

    That save had nothing to do with driving skills but with MEGA luck!

    In these conditions I hardly doubt that he can do this again w/o crashing

    That‘s just the usual RedBull blabla when they lose,they‘re sore losers and CH & HM are well known for their story pushing!

    If Lewis would have pushed Max wide imagine what they‘d have said afterwards

    Yeah, like Toto is gracious in defeat? Smiley

    No, he ain‘t but look at the bulls in the last years, they’ve always claimed that Merc was playing dirty.

    Re: [2021] Formula 1

    What a weekend for Hamilton, what an achievement after he was disqualified from qualifying… I am honestly speechless. BRAVO HAMILTON

    As Whoopsy said, Max was unfortunately Max again, I really love Max but what he did today again was very disappointing IMO, first pushing Hamilton off the track ( I don’t understand how the stewards did not penalize that) and then the weawing yes.

    One of the best races to watch…. angel

    Re: [2021] Formula 1

    Did a search on the FIA definition of weaving and this was the first returned entry. It’s a bit humorous considering the current discussion.

    Weaving: The F1 Rule Under Malaysian Spotlight

    May 13, 2010

    I don’t know about you, but nowhere in the Formula 1 Rules & Regulations for 2010 (provided by Formula1.com) does it mention anything about ‘weaving.’ Not in the 2010 season changes or the driver penalties section does it mention that word other than a vague reference with the words ‘unfairly blocking another driver,’ which I do not think is clear enough.

    So I visited the FIA website where the below was spotted (also available at Formula1.com under ‘FIA regulations in detail’):

    16.1 “Incident” means any occurrence or series of occurrences involving one or more drivers, or any action by any driver, which is reported to the stewards by the race director (or noted by the stewards and referred to the race director for investigation) which :

    – necessitated the suspension of a race under Article 41 ;

    – constituted a breach of these Sporting Regulations or the Code ;

    – caused a false start by one or more cars ;

    – caused a collision ;

    – forced a driver off the track ;

    – illegitimately prevented a legitimate overtaking manoeuvre by a driver ;

    – illegitimately impeded another driver during overtaking.

    If we take a look at the last two points under Article 16.1, Renault could argue that Hamilton ‘illegitimately prevented a legitimate overtaking manoeuvre’ from taking place by their driver, Vitaly Petrov. Obviously, the stewards took note of that and gave Hamilton an official half-black, half-white flag warning for ‘unsporting behavior.’

    “According to the rules, drivers may only make one defensive move, and then another before the brazing zone to return to his racing line,” UpdateF1.com reads.

    “..quoted Ferrari test driver Marc Geneas describing Hamilton’s driving as ‘wrong’, while Virgin tester Andy Soucek said the Briton should have penalized ‘absolutely, without any doubt’.

    And former Super Aguri driver Anthony Davidson told BBC radio: ‘I don’t know what Lewis was doing, weaving all over the track. I think he thought he was playing a Playstation rather than real life.'”

    Renault boss Eric Boullier believed Hamilton broke the rules while driving in addition to the fact that the stewards’ penalty – a visual warning by flag – was not harsh enough. The fact that we rarely see any driver engaging in such a manoeuvre, a warning, in my opinion, was efficient enough. I have to say, however, it was great to watch. At the end of the day, Formula 1 drivers are at the top of their game and can handle a little rough racing. Karting was where the majority of them were born; a place where racing was racing, weaving and all.

    Re: [2021] Formula 1

    So glad you brought that up.

    That was 2010? Hamilton's 3rd year.

    This is 2021, Max's 8th year? And he is still doing that. Which basically means he never learned. He did learn to not move under braking already, so it's not like he can't do it, he just didn't want to not do it.

    Ham Merc ridiculously faster than the RB.

    Max every bit as good as Ham, in the lead 75% of the race in a far slower car yesterday. What other driver could have done that ?.

    And the gap was there for Max, allowance from Ham because he chose to carry his speed through the typical racing line. He should know by now, if the gap is there Max will late break and get in there, it’s called racing, hence the decision of no penalty given.

    That Max is just as good as racing driver is a fact! Maybe even a bigger talant, but Max has different issues... he 100% pushed him wide!!! racing incident yes maybe depends how you look at it, he is always doing the same and Lewis must go wide in order to avoid a crash. Max knows if they crash and both of them are out of the race he keeps his point advantage!!! What about changing the line three or four times??? this is also OK???? Max was lucky that Lewis got disqualified because of his rear wing, otherwise it would have been a very boring race I guess, nevertheless this weekend Mercedes was way to strong on this track for RedBull!!!

    Love this title fight and more so I loved this race yesterday, I cant remember when I enjoyed a race the last time like that. Kudos to Lewis on recovering from a DQF and winning at the end.

    He also got a fine for seabelt violation on the cool down lap as a parting gift. Smiley

    While it's a bit common practice for winning drivers to do that to gain a bit more room for celebration, FIA's reasoning is that he can't be setting a bad example for kids coming up the rank. Fantastic reasoning as swearing on the radio is acceptable for kids to learn. SmileySmileySmiley

    I really had no problem with the DQ on the uncomforming wing. But was baffling that Max didn't get a penalty for running him off the track. Max made no attempt to even get near the apex or stay within the racing surface. Exactly the same scenario in Silverstone as Hamilton was accused of doing. Only difference being at Silverstone Max made no attempt to avoid contact and bail out, but to turn into Hamilton and made contact instead, while in here Hamilton took evasive action to avoid contact.

    FIA is supposed to look at onboard footage for Max's in car camera today, but even if they find something, I suspect they won't do anything after the fact, for fear of being accused of influencing the championship fight if they handed out supplementary penalty to Max. Imagine they say they are giving Max a 3 place or 5 place grid penalty for the next race, Max fans will riot everywhere!

    Now if Max wins the championship by a few points only, the record books might put an asterisk there for the fact that we had a non-race race result at Spa.

    Re: [2021] Formula 1

    By and large though, the points that they have is a fair reflection on their pace across the whole season. Hardly anything in it, other than Hams Merc appearing to have gained 50 ponies in that new engine indecision.

    Go go Max. Both in same cars,,, Max would spank Ham now. Pure rip raw pace that boy has now,, and confidence blush

    Lewis might have been able to let max go wide and simply pass on the inside.  Anyway, when in the points lead the situation looks a bit different.

    Re: [2021] Formula 1

    As expected, Zhou with his rumoured 30 mil dollar sponsorship package, has secured a seat with Alfa Romeo. Displacing Giovinazzi.

    Hmm, Bottas mentoring Zhou. Zhou can probably teach Bottas about Chinese sauna instead.

    Alpine/Renault retained Piastri as their reserve driver. So at least they kept one of their talents in house. With Ocon as their future, Piastri will have his eyes on Alonso's seat whenever the elder statesman decided to hang up his boots for good.

    As of right now, Giovinazzi will be at best, Ferrari's test/reserve driver as he is still in their program. But Ferrari with 2 young guns, isn't likely to have an open seat soon. Even if they do, Mick Schumacher will be higher up on their depth chart.

    Up and down the grid, there isn't a chance for him. Stroll, Mazepin and Latifi all have billionaire fathers bankrolling their seats so those are super secured, more so than MAx's seat at Red Bull. Only openings coming up would be when Hamilton and Vettel retires. De Vries will likely be an option for Mercedes when Hamilton retires to be the #2 to Russell. So the only likely opening coming up would be Vettel's seat.

    Perez is only 31, he probably still have a few years left as he is starting to be a good #2 for Red Bull, and Red Bull can always call up Gasly/Albon.

    Ricciardo is 32, he can still drive. But if VAG do indeed takes over McLaren, that seat will likely be filled with VAG personal, eventually.

    Wild card here will be Tsunoda. He is only there at Alfa Tauri because of Honda. Next year with Honda officially out of F1, Red Bull will have no more obligations to retain Tsunoda.

    How do you guys feel about the Senna / Prost battles? Everyone seems to remember Senna like a hero, but the parallels with Max are evident - both aggressive, win at all costs, highly competitive drivers. What's the difference? Reminiscence bias?

    Re: [2021] Formula 1

    Why do Alfa Romeo still bother with Formula 1? In the modern era they've been trying since 1978 (Brabham-Alfa Romeo)  to achieve something in all possible ways i.e. full team, engine supplier even as title sponsors and making branding appearances, but success has permanently eluded them.

    They might be better off devoting their efforts to Touring cars or Sportscar racing where they could have some results  and at a lower expenditure.

    I was always a big fan of "The Professor". And most of all Niki Lauda.

    I never fancied driver types like Senna and Max. But the majority prefers those.
