Re: OFFICIAL: New Porsche 911 Turbo S (2020)

Best thing about buying from auto dealers? I have choices.

Think I am up to 60 car purchases across 18 brands I think, give or take a few. Most of those were great experiences, no BS. The few times I did have a bad experience, I just switch dealer. Easy peasy.

If I were to buy a Tesla, there is only one selling, it's a monopoly, I am stuck with buying from them, good or bad.

Tesla cutting out the dealer network simply because they want to cut out the middleman and take in as much money as possible from each sale, nothing more.

    wink

Seems to be that every tread is this forum keeps returning to Telsa vs rest of the world (or the other way around). This is slowly getting very boring and annoying.

I don't mind. It is part of Rennteam. However, I could care less about Tesla...

You can tell how 992 is focused on the China market- Tesla keeps coming up -

I am curious why those dealerships you spend millions in like you more than me?  Lol.  You have positive experiences, I almost fell out of my chair laughing

As my favorite southern senator like to say - ‘and the stripper loves you…’.
Im not mentioning Tesla but the part about a company just wanting to make money is awesome too. What are the dealers trying to do?  Ever been in a car negotiation?
Follow the money - I could be wrong

Oh - and if you want to buy a Ferrari it is always built by Ferrari. Darn. No other choice. They should allow you to buy a Ferrari built by Ford. Lol.

Re: OFFICIAL: New Porsche 911 Turbo S (2020)

With a dealer, one can create a personal relationship. Much more difficult to create with a website. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Didn't spend a million dollars at the Jeep dealership, it was actually only for 2 cars, 20 years apart, a Grand Cherokee way back when and a last generation Wrangler. Neither did I with the Chevrolet when I bought the Corvette, which was the only time I bought something. Also had great experience with the Ford dealer, bought a Mustang Cobra convertible, met the owner's son, talked cars and became friends. He inherited the dealership now, and we still friends even when I haven't bought another car from then apart from a Lincoln Navigator. He did asked me about ordering a Ford GT which I passed.

As for your last sentence, wanting to start an argument for argument sake? It doesn't even make sense. Ferrari sells through dealers, one doesn't directly buy from Ferrari you know. On the flip side, my Ferrari dealer owns many dealerships in town, so I can actually buy an Audi, Porsche or Acura via them. Not quite Ford. Smiley

At what cost to the buyer?  Some cynics argue it is so Tesla can make more money - or is it to save the consumers money and hassle and aggravation??.  I feel better about paying a set price - relationship with a car dealerSmiley - back ‘the stripper loves you…’

there is hardly ever a need to even see the dealer. They deliver the car, the do service at your house and there is no maintenance at all. Dealers would really struggle to make money with that type of maintenance plan.

Haha loving that you still finding way to deny that fact. It's not 'cynics'. It's a known fact.

Cutting out the dealers means the manufacturer can pocket all the profits. Other domestic car makers tried many times but wasn't powerful enough against their existing dealer networks to implement the direct to customer model like Tesla to make more money.

Is having a dealer in between bad? Some small fraction of the population says yes, as they have had bad experiences dealing with dealers.

I much more enjoy heading down to my local Hermes store and trying out the Hermes Apple Watch then simply clicking and buying on Apple's website. Having the sales bring over champagne and other new items over is very enjoyable. Having said that, I also very much enjoy staying up till midnight and get on Apple Store to pre-order the new iPhone in my underwear with a beer in hand. Both methods can co-survive.

Re: OFFICIAL: New Porsche 911 Turbo S (2020)

     Both can co-exist. Like us.
Since Tesla is basically a fridge on wheels so I’m okay with their approach and in the long run some saving end up in the consumers pocket.  I don’t know how many dealer or makers are into maximizing profits but I bet it is like their job to do this. So I don’t hold it against them. I just like avoid the hassle. If a dealer likes me I paid too much.

Re: OFFICIAL: New Porsche 911 Turbo S (2020)

I like white against blue but not on this car.

The white wheels totally distract from the car styling and road presence. What you see is white wheels and a chassis.surprise

    Indeed a very successful specification.

Of all the versions of the 992, IMO the Turbo looks the best. The front bumper/spoiler, the rear bumper/wing and the side intakes blend much better with the overall dimensions and the "bloated" Smiley look, than the Carrera versions or even the GT3.

Agreed. Turbo is the bees knees!

Re: OFFICIAL: New Porsche 911 Turbo S (2020)

You know, I still find the design of the front/side openings with the blades a bit messy, but the rest of the car looks so sleek and purposeful, especially from this angle and with the raised wing... I agree, looks stunning! I wouldn't have gone for white wheels though. I think it looks nice in this picture, but it might have a whole different look from other angles and with different light conditions.

Re: OFFICIAL: New Porsche 911 Turbo S (2020)

When they describe the sound I have bad memories of my dear brothers old Maserati BiTurbo from the 80s.  Not good.

Re: OFFICIAL: New Porsche 911 Turbo S (2020)

When I think of Maserati, I think of someone walking into a Ferrari dealership and got rejected to buy a Ferrari, but they got offered a Maserati instead.

Or, one walks into a Lamborghini dealer and trying to buy a Huracan, and instead got direct to walk across the street to get a Audi R8.

Or going into a Lexus dealer to get a ES and got sent to a Toyota dealership to get a Camry.

Maserati simply just don't have the brand power.
