    Re: [2021] Formula 1

    Whoopsy:

    Mexico this weekend.

Red Bull is expected to lead the way, they have the fastest car and also the circuit and altitude is well suited to the Red Bull package on top.

If Perez is leading, will Horner instruct him to give way to Max if Max happens to be running 2nd to him?

What if Hamilton is close behind Max and there isn't clear room for the switch? Will Red Bull still try and risk Perez dropping the 3rd in the process just so Max can have the win?

Now if the switch do happened, Mexican fans will not be pleased at all with the team.

Another good story line, could McLaren catch up to Ferrari?

    Re: [2021] Formula 1

Someone has to do the dirty work ........

Nah, the story writes itself this year. It's a once in a lifetime season.

There are 4 young guns coming of age, 1 of those already have a championship winning caliber car and a maturing attitude. The old guard, defending champion, doesn't have the fastest car anymore and had to reply on skills and experience to stay in the fight, going for the record #8. The storyline doesn't end this year however, it will continue to next year. Red Bull is going all in this year and sacrificing 2022, so if Max doesn't win, he will start off on the back foot in 2022 chasing. The other 3 could win next year and denying Max again. Ferrari or Mclaren could be the dominant car for 2022 after all, with Red Bull going all in and Mercedes pushing and spending less time for the new car.

Actually, his team fucked it up for him. He had a comfortable margin leading the practices. But overnight Red Bull did something to the car, changing the balance and went too far for Max.

On top, they fucked it up again on Qualifying, first trip out their cars got separated by the Ferrari and Max didn't get his tow. Second time around they got too close, on top of Perez going off after Tsunoda.

    Re: [2021] Formula 1

    What a weird qualifying session.

First Stroll went off in Q1 and fucked it up for Red Bull, their drivers were on a fast lap when they had to abort, wasting precious tires.

The Red Bull fucked it up on the car release in Q3, letting Ferrari get between their cars and ruining the tow for Max. Despite that, Max posted a very quick time before the Mercedes pair took over the top 2 spots.

On the second outing Red Bull fucked it up again with their cars being too close together, and with the track temperature heating up, there just wasn't a fast lap time available to take the pole.

Their overnight adjustment went too far, dialling out the downforce and now the cars doesn't have enough grip. Also worrying is that it would seems like their rear wing isn't strong enough, duct tape on the rear wing? That's a first.

Those Honda engines are showing their strength here in Mexico. Even Tsunoda can get an Alpha Tauri up there with he big boys during qualifying.

Some people are purely focused on the top speed reading. The reading is only meaningful when comparing the same car. Mercedes had always been a low drag car, so even for the same horsepower, they will have a speed advantage over the Red Bull as the RB cars are high grip car that's less streamlined.

I don't even want to imagine what Dr. Marko will be/had said to Tsunoda. His off screwed both Perez and Max. Oops. Lady Luck wasn't with Red Bull on Saturday.

Either Ricciardo found another gear, or more than likely Mclaren dialled the car back towards his style over Lando's. Interesting development as they probably figured Lando has enough talent to adjust. Didn't quite happened.

Ferrari looks to be holding onto their good form over the Mclarens.

More radio drama for Mazepin. He just doesn't want to accept the fact that Mick is just that much better a driver than him.

Those Renault engines in the Alpines just aren't up to par right now. Hope they can figure it out before the lock date for 2022, else they could be permanent back markers even with Alonso.

Bottas. Well the Superman side of him showed up again. he really lacks consistency. Will be an interesting start for tomorrow, as he might get swamped by 3 other cars by turn 1.  4 wide going into turn 1? Or would bad luck takes over with Gasly taking out both Red Bulls in front of him at turn 1?

Ricciardo starts on the clean side, could he jump Sainz at the start? He is a damn good starter after all.

It sure takes him many words to state that in racing there is uncertainty.

    Re: [2021] Formula 1

Dream start fro Max. Got a great slipstream and his engine is making good power in Mexico to jet past the 2 Mercedes.

Poor Bottas, sandwiched then got hit.

    Re: [2021] Formula 1

And just as quickly, Red Bull's true pace is shown, Max already pulled out a big gap to Lewis.

Who says the Red Bull aren't the fastest car this year?

    Re: [2021] Formula 1

No chance to Hamilton. RB's are so fast.

Bottas opened the door to Max at the start, as usual. Smiley

    Re: [2021] Formula 1

When Perez can chase down Hamilton in a Mercedes at will, yeah, the Red Bull is head and shoulder faster than anything else. Thos that didn't think so are in denial.

A mostly boring routine race. Red Bull were expected to take 1-2. Hamilton spoiled their efforts. Still got 1-3 however. Once Max took the lead out of turn1, game over, no one is going to catch him.

A generally bad luck day for Bottas. Got tagged in turn 1 then got impeded by Max during his first fastest lap attempt. at least ended up taking it away from Max.

Everyone else also are just doing a boring race, can't follow too close for some wheel to wheel battle because of the thin air.

Next race is another high altitude race, not as high as here but still Honda engine territory. Should be another Max win there.

    Re: [2021] Formula 1

Guess Max should have gotten out of Bottas’ way when he was two laps down.  Only boring when Hamilton doesn’t win too.

    Re: [2021] Formula 1

The street goes both ways you know. Take off your Max goggles.

For many years the complaint was Hamilton had the fastest car and race becomes boring. Now the shoe is on the other foot with Max getting the fastest car and it's not boring? Some kind of logic. His lead today was never in doubt after the safety car. The race was whether Perez could catch and pass Hamilton to come home second. He almost did.

It's also the same argument about Bottas coming in second over say Max or anyone else in 3rd in seasons before. The argument is that Bottas isn't that fast and it's the car. Well now Perez has the fastest car together with Max, and he doesn't quite match Bottas' results yet. At least Bottas out qualified Hamilton on a regular basis to prove he do have some amazing one lap pace. His race craft and on track decisions however isn't that good, Perez however have those attributes, but does't quite have the raw speed on a one lap pace.

If you are not in the top ten and you can not have the point for fast lap then it should go to someone in the top ten only.  Not a fan of what you s going on with fast lap

Still fixated on Max, I read.  The real winner yesterday was Sergio Pérez, his Father, and his son. The spectators left thrilled that a Mexican driver led several laps at the Mexican Grand Prix.  If he had been able to pass Ham, the fans would have brought the place down.  Ultimately, Formula 1 is a spectator event and this race had enough excitement for the 100,000 plus spectators there in person and those watching the race on the telly.

A bit of a snide comment from Ham, considering while he is very talented, he has had the fastest car for years.  That was proven last year when Russell was given the opportunity to drive it in a race.

You proved my point. Red Bull is the fastest car and Perez is in one just so he can do what he did yesterday. Imagine if Perez is in one of the Astons or Alfas. It won't be as thrilling.

Yup! See 2019 Ferrari. They have the fastest car yet Hamilton won the Championship.

This year Mercedes isn't the fastest, it's the Red Bulls. Max is taking full advantage of that to rocket himself to the top of the standing.

We can go on and on, but the argument that Hamilton was only winning because he had the fastest car is being applied to Max this year fair and square. It is universally accepted that the Red Bulls are in a league of their own this year. One can't just blindly bash Hamilton's previous years in the fastest car yet ignores Max getting the fastest car this year.

Being fast in F1 isn't about the top speed they can achieved on the straights. It's about how quickly the car can go around the circuit. RB cars had always had the handling advantage, they were just short on power to to carry that speed on the straights. This year the Honda engine made a major leap in power output, while maintaining the handling advantage, actually they had improved on that department too, gone is last year's super twitchy car that only Max can handle. Max has the perfect package this year to shine in the spotlight. Which he is doing.

There is nothing wrong in acknowledging the Red Bulls are the fastest. The whole team worked really hard to be the fastest. From car design to engine package to pit crew. heck even their strategies are top notch. Mercedes can only dream about having the same strategy calls and fast and perfect pitstops.

A DNF for Max in Qatar would really even the championship and push things over to the last race. I couldn't even remember when it was such a close call so I googled it, 2008 Hamilton 98 pts vs Massa ending with 97 and it was decided on the last corner of the last race for LH's first ever championship win.
