What a weird qualifying session.
First Stroll went off in Q1 and fucked it up for Red Bull, their drivers were on a fast lap when they had to abort, wasting precious tires.
The Red Bull fucked it up on the car release in Q3, letting Ferrari get between their cars and ruining the tow for Max. Despite that, Max posted a very quick time before the Mercedes pair took over the top 2 spots.
On the second outing Red Bull fucked it up again with their cars being too close together, and with the track temperature heating up, there just wasn't a fast lap time available to take the pole.
Their overnight adjustment went too far, dialling out the downforce and now the cars doesn't have enough grip. Also worrying is that it would seems like their rear wing isn't strong enough, duct tape on the rear wing? That's a first.
Those Honda engines are showing their strength here in Mexico. Even Tsunoda can get an Alpha Tauri up there with he big boys during qualifying.
Some people are purely focused on the top speed reading. The reading is only meaningful when comparing the same car. Mercedes had always been a low drag car, so even for the same horsepower, they will have a speed advantage over the Red Bull as the RB cars are high grip car that's less streamlined.
I don't even want to imagine what Dr. Marko will be/had said to Tsunoda. His off screwed both Perez and Max. Oops. Lady Luck wasn't with Red Bull on Saturday.
Either Ricciardo found another gear, or more than likely Mclaren dialled the car back towards his style over Lando's. Interesting development as they probably figured Lando has enough talent to adjust. Didn't quite happened.
Ferrari looks to be holding onto their good form over the Mclarens.
More radio drama for Mazepin. He just doesn't want to accept the fact that Mick is just that much better a driver than him.
Those Renault engines in the Alpines just aren't up to par right now. Hope they can figure it out before the lock date for 2022, else they could be permanent back markers even with Alonso.
Bottas. Well the Superman side of him showed up again. he really lacks consistency. Will be an interesting start for tomorrow, as he might get swamped by 3 other cars by turn 1. 4 wide going into turn 1? Or would bad luck takes over with Gasly taking out both Red Bulls in front of him at turn 1?
Ricciardo starts on the clean side, could he jump Sainz at the start? He is a damn good starter after all.
