Re: New GT3 - Performance Data

Any word of Walter Rohrl's lap time at Nurburgring in the new GT3? I read he was supposed to test at the end of March but maybe the weather hasn't cooperated.

Re: New GT3 - Performance Data

I wonder how much quicker the new GT3 will be with the optional lower gears that can be substituted...

Re: New GT3 - Performance Data

It's surprising that the GT3 is actually faster from 100kph on. Is this due to gearing? Drag coefficient? The turbo has a better power-to-weight ratio.

    -Ben

    Two possible reason

first, it is 2WD, 2WD always have advantage in term of acceleration as compare to 4WD from 80km/h on.

second, gearing is also closer than the turbo which helps quite a bit.

Well, that is only true in the sense that 4WD means more weight. However, I just did some math and realized that the GT3 is 250hp/ton compared to 244hp/ton for the 996tt. This alone should explain the difference, all else equal.

    not so much the weight

But 2WD have all the power/torque at the rear wheel which result in a quicker acceleration number, as for 4WD, The Turbo which transfer i believe 80% of the power/torque to the rear axle and 20% in the front. Acceleration will always be quicker if most of the power are at the real axle because the weight will transfer to the back.

    Also

There will be a slight power loss when distributing power to the front. Where power is more efficiently transfer 'only' to the rear axle.

4WD will have an advantage at the initial part of the acceleration where traction plays a big role. Anything above the possibility of slipping, 2WD will be faster if all things being equal.

    Re: gearing

what do you think happens to the new gt3 with lower 2,34,5,6 gears, say maxing out at 150?
i wonder if 8 sec 0-100 mph becomes possible?

Not 8sec, but between 8 and 9 possibly (might another shift)
