    Re: Launch date 997 Turbo

Wider tires will be negligible. Extra weight will not. Let's hope it's within 50kg. of the tts.

According to some, the hp rating of the TTS is conservative.
So, the 997tt will have less power gain than you think. But, I definitely look forward to seeing the 997 performance figures.

    KenW.
From my previous dealing, I personally recommend Pfaff Porsche(Woodbridge, Vaughan). The people at Downtown Porsche know nothing about Porsche or what's going on with PCNA.

    Re: Launch date 997 Turbo

Thanks Bitko. I'm planning a Porsche purchase in the next few months so your advice is timely.

Dock, YOU are talking about a modified car which sacrifices comfort and reliability for comfort and durability. That's no assumption but a fact. A 996 X50 with sport suspension might be great and nobody forces you to buy a new model but I am VERY sure that the 997 will have significant advantages over its predecessor.

My non-X50 Turbo has Porsche's X73 suspension, so I don't consider the suspension "modified" at all. It drives like a real sports car now...no sacrifice there in my mind since I *wanted* a sports car.

As for the engine, I've got a Europipe Stage 2 exhaust, which has 70mm pipes all around, and 100 cell cats. My Turbo now sounds like a sports car and has better throttle response...I'd guess Porsche will also make similar changes in the 997Turbo. I also have Evolution Motor Sports Stage 2 ECU programing...good for ~510 hp and 520 lb-ft of torque. Once again, I think Porsche will do about the same thing to the 997 Turbo's ECU to bring the power up.

I have no doubt the 997 Turbo will handle very well, and will be very fast...maybe up to the level of my Turbo...

Does Porsche browse this board and ones like it to get R&D ideas?

Well, ... they might read these boards.

However, don't expect them to take much of what is posted very seriously. One of my guilty entertainments is reading posts about my industry on various internet sites. Some comments (usually not from this board) are so far removed from reality that I consider them high comedy

You can bet Porsche knows which comments are valuable, and how few of them really are.

    Re: Launch date 997 Turbo

Darn! does this mean that the "stealth-fighter" wax I just bought doesn't make my car invisible to radar?
will it at least give me 5km/h more top speed?

Then you heard about Bluefang? The software that alters the
remote door lock module on Mercedes and Porsches to create
a magnetic field that interrupts police radar transmissions?

    Just curious..

    Re: Launch date 997 Turbo

anyboby who knows performance for this car?
i dont but i dont think that anything can beat that from A TO B .

Speaking of "high comedy" and "removed from reality," how about the "renowned german car mag" in the first post of this thread, who said in late-2005 that the PDK would be available in January 2006? Here it is January 2007, and no PDK even a year later than their claim.

I read that the PDK was rejected (possibly only temporarily) due to an excess weight issue that Porsche engineers encountered...but you can't really believe what you read, as the "renowned german car mag" example points out. You would think that since Porsche has made this type of dual-clutch transaxle for the 956/962 racing vehicles, and since their partners at VW have the similar DSG in current production, that Porsche would have already known what weight to expect, but oh well. I thought German engineers were perfect, like in VW's "V-dub" commercials? (I'm only a half-German engineer, so I'm allowed to make more mistakes...) It's just a bit frustrating for a lot of us Porsche-lovers that mags have been talking about this transaxle since at least 2002, but nothing is in a production car yet... Five years from concept to production is a long time for a transaxle that isn't even radically different from what Porsche has already created in limited production (in the 956/962), and since a few automakers have produced their DCT transaxles in half the R&D time without any major warranty or recall issues.

Eh, how about 1000 bhp in 2200-pound chassis w/FIA approved rollcage, and it's actually road legal, costs less than the 997 turbo, and 240+ mph (385+ km/h). That's the Ultima GTR, my other car which is a bit bouncier and has heavier pedals/steering-wheel than my 996. ...Also, not quite as cheap as a 997 or an Ultima, but you can try a used F1 car or the space shuttle, since you said that you don't think "anything" can outperform the 997. ;-) I think the shuttle does 0-3000 mph in about 3 seconds. ;-)
